It would be nice to have a power strip that had a on/off switch for each plug area. That way I wouldn't turn off all devices plugged into it; I could selectively choose.
I consider the posted idea silly. It's not that hard to pull on the end of the cord. Who wants to completely unplug the cord? I just want to disconnect it from the power.
Congrats, you can link to wikipedia?
...and contaminates our landfills with mercury as we dispose of them.
You do realize that you are supposed to recycle them. In most places it is illegal to throw away fluorescent light bulbs.
As someone else said, burning coal puts off mercury. With CF bulbs proper disposal prevents any of the toxic metals from going into the environment.
Doesn't matter. It will happen. Expecting recycling to happen is a pipe-dream.
Doesn't take long to cherry-pick faults with global warming advocates pseudo-science either.
Of course not everyone will recycle and many will end up in landfills. But businesses do and many people do. Overall the environmental impact of CF bulbs is much lower than conventional bulbs.
There is nothing we can do to eliminate the human stupidity factor. I however do get a kick out of watching people break florescent bulbs on you tube and then sit there breathing in the cloud of Mercury vapor that was released.Idiots.
lulz, I've been through the college courses at U of M that discuss those "global warming" issues. (took Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Environmental Science & Technology Studies, and Astronomy) We went into the issue pretty far in depth, especially in the Environmental STS 300 level class since it was a hot button issue. The science is inconclusive due to the historical past completely contradicting the arguments put forth today by global warming's political advocates and scientists. My professors even being how liberal they are consider the hype a joke.Of course not everyone will recycle and many will end up in landfills. But businesses do and many people do.
