interplay is back??

Decent 4? heheh. That would be fun, though I never did get around to Decent 3.
 
descent 3 wasn't bad. however, volition (under interplay at the time) actually scrapped descent 4 to make red faction...
 
I was/am a huge fan of Descent, and I'd be nterested in another sequel, but I'm afraid that there's not a lot of unexplored territory for the fundamental game mechanics (I'm in a ship and environment that cares little about gravity) so I'm having a hard time imagining what possible ways they could innovate without breaking things. Descent 3 put a lot of effort into areas-other-than-twisty-mines-with-reactors and to honest I felt that the change was slightly for the worse.
 
Interplay should jump on the bandwagon if rehasing/updating old games. Do a Descent 1/2/3 HD just like Croteam did with Serious Sam.
 
They sold the rights to Fallout in order to get enough cash to restart themselves. So yeah, in a way Interplay is back, but not like we knew it. They are struggling to get back on their feet. They have been for some time now.

They may have. This current Interplay is no doubt different in many ways compared to the one we knew. Mainly this one has no money to speak of.

Not a bad idea. I saw the Serious Sam HD version on Steam and well, it probably sold a lot. :cool:
 
Descent was so badass. My roommate and I figured out how to control it with 2 joysticks. A plain joystick on the left for forward/backward/left/right and the joystick on the right controlled pitch/yaw with the hat control moving you up down. It was the most fluid, natural control scheme I've ever felt on any game.

We had our computers networked with coax that we punched through our kitchen wall. Every now and then we would go to the computer lab late at night and install it on a bunch of machines so we could play with a bunch of people. Lag-free gaming in the days before DSL and cable. I think I had to take Physics 2 because of that game.

This was when the first pentium processors came out and stand-alone GPUs were just a twinkle in 3dfx's eye.

So yeah, I'd love a new Descent.
 
They are working on a Fallout Online MMO. as for single player no idea :p
 
Unless Volition makes either I don't want to see them. I will continue to play FSOpen until Volition makes another. All the new mods and stories being told with new campaigns since the FS2 source code was released is amazing.

Hmm I have never heard of Descent before reading this tonight. I looked up the game info and it seems pretty interesting. Wonder if I should give it a go sometime

Edit: Same with FreeSpace, never heard of them and those also look good. Damn.

Haha Yeah I graduated in 07. I'm 22, I played the old C&C's (red alert 2 was the last), Doom, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and then pretty much switched to just playing consoles only until Counter-Strike 1.5.
 
I highly doubt Interplay still has an agreement in place to make Star Trek games, so I don't think we will see a continuation of those series any time soon.

I'm hoping for FreeSpace 3 before Descent 4. Both would be kickass but I'd rather have FS3 first. :)

It looks even better now with the source code being changed by the community. Plenty of videos on youtube. The main place to get info on the source code and improvement projects is Hard Light Productions. Many of the new campaigns are hosted there as well.
