Okay 1st off i`m not sure if this is in the right section, i`m sorry if it's not.

Anyways just like the title says, I've been supended from my internet services because apparently I use too much internet lol. I'm using my phone atm- has this ever happen to anyone? Comcast rep just told me I was using too much. They said they are giving me a warning and the next time I use too much internet I will be suspended for a year. I just laughed. I don't know why i`ve never heard of such things. This amazes me.

Well, is there any other good internet companies out there? I`m planing to switch out of this crappy company. Can`t afford to be down for the next 2 weeks

Yeah it's happened before.

There are but they may not be available in your area. See if Verizon offers FIOs in your area though.

No they don't I've tried to get them a few months ago, thanks for the suggestion. Any other companies out there? Is clear internet any good?

If they suspend you do you still have to pay the bill or is it like an easy way to terminate the contract?

they suspend me for a month. If I over use the internet within another 6months they will suspend me for a year. I still have to pay for this month.
But for your question - I am not sure about. But I imagine it's an easy way to terminate the contract as you say.

Just pay the extra $30-$60 and upgrade to a no-cap Comcast business plan.

Also, you can log on at comcast.net to easily check your current monthly usage.

This. I got a call from Charter that I went 750% over my cap, and I ended up going up a faster tier for $10/month more but get much faster dl/up. I'd still need to curb my download by 66% though  Comparing to uncapped companies like u-verse, I'd pay more for less speed too, and I don't know how much longer before they try to shove a cap in place either.

I've heard of this, and I got an email from Charter last year saying they were going to do the same thing. I guess I only get 100 gb a month now, which could be worse. I only pay $29 per month for 25 Mbps download speed, so I can't complain too much.

The problem with Charter is that they don't have a tool to tell me how much bandwidth I've used. I haven't gotten a letter or phone call yet, so I must be ok.

I agree that I have heard of this and it is well justified: if you are using that much bandwidth, then you are likely doing business activities, in which you should be on a business plan.

I don't like it, but I wont say that they are justified in doing this. If you are making money off your internet connection, then after a certain point you should have to pony up.

If you arent making money and are just downloading torrents, well, then you know where you stand. The days of unlimited bandwidth are long gone.

When Comcrap came out with the 250GB/month cap I immediately switch because they also increase my month price. I am with Cavalier G2 (adsl - advertise at up to 8mb down but i'm getting around a stable 5mb down) and I never look back. No cap!

Upgrade to business plan and/or reduce the [downloading|pirating|seeding] of [pornography|music|movies|TV]

Seriously, how hard is it to login and check the usage meter occasionally?

They don't offer the option of paying $X/GB for overage? I have Uverse and I know they will be implementing the 250GB cap soon, but I read that they will charge $10 for every 50GB over. I have been considering going back to Time Warner. While money is not the issue, and Uverse does offer faster speeds (24/3 on uverse and 15/1 on RR), I hate to reward this kind of behavior.

Wait, what? They are turning off your Internet for a month, but still expect you to pay for it? I hope you're not being serious. If it were me, I wouldn't be paying for something I wasn't getting. I suppose your Internet costs something like $50/month. I'm not in the business of spending $50 and getting nothing.

You are paying for the service, and they are penalizing you for using it? Hopefully there's a better ISP in your area you can go with because it's probably time to cancel the service. With talks of these caps coming to Canada, it really makes me scared it eventually hits my ISP.

That's crazy dangerous if they charged you for overage since most people that get the call are the biggest data offenders. Even at $10/50 gig, I'd have to pay $130 from my last overage. Better to get a call, say something stupid like you just bought a wifi router and didn't secure it, and lay low for a few months. It all counts on the policy now too because for me, Charter will gives two strikes for warnings, and the third one in 6 rolling months will give you a suspension.

Yeah I hate how cells do that. It's very easy to rack up a $100,000 bill or even more if you're not careful.

I heard horror stories about that actually. There's something you can get called a Turbo Hub. Uses the 3G network to provide internet to your home network. Sounds cool, but some people have used it not realizing that you are paying per MB. Here our internet sucks, but 3G is like 10x faster then land line internet so people take advantage of the speed and within an hour or so they've hit their cap and paying per extra MB.

You know what you should do?

Tell them to blow it out their ass. The next month you have access, download as much shit as you can possibly manage. Pay your bill with a credit card, cancel, and then chargeback on them with the explanation of not notifying you about changes in your account by limiting access.

They deserve to have some shit thrown in their direction, that's one way of doing it right there.

+1 assuming there is a better ISP available you can subscribe to. :D

Time Warner doesn't have a cap. Their service has been great to me. I've easily used over a terabyte in a month before and they didn't care or anything.

What an annoying ISP. Change it to different and make sure you read their contract and terms of use carefully.

I'm on Verizon FIOS. I've generously shared torrents of Linux distros, done TONS of NetFlix HD-streaming on my PC (connected to a nice TV with that DVI output), and ran a Murmer server almost 24/7 (for the Mumble voice chat client, open source, free, and better than Ventrilo/Teamspeak).

I'm on the 20 Mbps (MegaBits per second) FIOS plan, same speed up and down. I have yet to get any bullshit from Verizon about how much or little I use. The fact that ComCrap has a cap and Verizon doesn't, that's a HUGE reason many people jumped to Verizon.

Switch now, and enjoy the freedom while it lasts! Hopefully with the other ventures Verizon has with bundles of home phone service and FIOS tv and cell phone service, they won't feel the need to screw up their internet customers with a cap.

NEVER EVER deal with that kind of bullshit if you have a choice of any other provider. Don't pay them a dime and tell them to go fuck themselves, then switch. They can do their worst, but it won't ever be fiscally feasible for them to do so and they won't bother with the courts, they get too many cases to do that. I had switched when ComCrap gave the notice of their 'cap', and I didn't even pay them the last bill, and I did tell them to go fuck themselves (talking to their senior senior manager or w/e). They never bothered with 'breach of contract' bullshit in the courts, since they had TONS of people fleeing their service. I hope they crash and burn.

EDIT: Yes it was MegaBits per second. Slip of the tongue...whooo! Finally got around to fixing it...years later. GO LAZY ME WOOOO! :0

I hope you mean mbit/sec. I would assume a 20/gbps plan would cost a small fortune per month

Comcast gives me access to espn3.com with my service but expects me to stay within my bandwith limit
