Internet Explorer 9 Beta Released Today

can someone debunk this for me? ie9 uses webkit? yea or nay?
 
Just downloaded it. Definitely faster than 8. First startup took a while, but much faster after that.
Non-scientific 'feel' test tells me Chrome is still faster, however.

Yes. you download install and then windows will restart. It will come up with the usual "configuring updates" at startup then when the OS loads ie8 will be replaced by ie9. If you don't want to replace it but see kind of what its like, you can just use the platform preveiw, which is almost the same, but lacks the GUI and a loads of functions (history, favirotes).
It keeps all the passwords/favirotes etc. (It did for me)
 
Yes, the beta does, the platform preview doesn't. Too bad these forums make IE9 fall back to IE7 rendering mode.

Some things I don't like.

Don't like the Favorites Bar moved to the other side. I'm a Favorites user and it's more movement now.

Don't like the Search Bar Gone. Actually it's now the same as address bar. I don't care for it.

Now it always looks like there is a tab open. Only way to get rid of it is disable tabs completely.

I like IE8 better but am using Firefox now just because gmail is glitching now in IE8 or IE9 (chat not loading).

Installer seems stuck about 20% of the way into "Downloading required updates..." Anyone else having this problem?
 
Here's a key question. Does it finally, after a decade, finally print correctly without chopping off the right hand side?
 
I like it. I am glad they woke up. His will definitely drive Google an Mozilla to work harder. I've been using Chrome for a long time on both my Mac and PC as my only browser for the speed and bookmark sync. IE9 gets to be my only PC browser for the next week for a good test drive.

So far, so good. Nice job Microsoft.
 
It takes a while to install because of additional files/updates required for Windows itself, and it'll require a reboot when the installation is actually done. As long as you see network activity and hard drive activity it's still going. If you're running Windows 7 pull up Resource Monitor and you'll see it's still working...
 
Why does every browser have to be different with regards to how the text is displayed? I mean I know that they're all using different (or altered) engines/renderers, but some text looks sharp in one browser and blurry in another.
 
Can someone please do me a huge favor and take a screen shot of the favorites bar enabled? Thanks.
 
Why does the IE9 rendering style cause nearly all fonts to look fuzzy and out of focus?
 
If you have blurry text, go into options and turn off Clear Type. That's something for users who have an LCD/DVI connection, for the most part.
 
I'm fairly certain it has to do with Clear Type as opposed to its rendering engine or hardware rendering.
 
I like it thus far, although my default HTPC 120% zoom definitely creates a blurrier look than in IE8.
I'll have to get used to using the address bar for searching (it feels wrong to me), though.
One odd thing is the option to move the favorites bar back to the left...but when you close it it's back on the right. Are there people that just leave it open all of the time? Why not save my preference? I honestly like the old drop-down bookmarks list best, but it seems like outside of Firefox that's dead.

It took...less than 5minutes for me. Most of the install seems to be downloading the files, so the server might be taking a hit from it being such a high demand file...
 
Any requirements that I'm missing? I'm getting "Service Pack is not supported" when I try to install it.

What OS? Theres a different version for each OS and 64bit/32bit. Make sure its the right one. I suppose you should make sure your fully updated too. (I say so muhc obvious crap)
 
Okay, just installed this on my W100 and IE9 blows away Chrome 6 and Firefox 4 Beta 5 in terms of scrolling and zooming, it's not even close overall on his little puppy, Chrome and FF have some catching up to on this end.

Now Microsoft, can you PLEASE do something about making a little more touch friendly, it wouldn't take much, just make the space where Home, Favs and settings are put a button there and just make big pop dialog up or something.

7 ultimate 64-bit. All the prerequisites in their support document say it's not applicable. I asked a question on their forum, I'll post if get an answer that works.

Yeah, I'm with you. I have to have my bookmar menu towards the center/left of the page. It's my natural clicking motion and I don't feel like changing.

Otherwise, it seems pretty cool. These forums load very quickly. Some pages don't display right but the compatibility mode fixes that as it should.

I do like the screen size. At least on 7, when you maxamize it, it completely removes the bottom border except for a very tiny bar. Seems to mesh well with 7 and probably does too with Vista.

Still no spell check ;(
