EDIT - Well scrooge that, they just raised their price to $320 now up from the $255 it was at. Sheesh.

Not to start a feeding frenzy on the last 1 or 2 but when I happened to be looking around Amazon.com this morning, they had them in stock being sold through Electronica Direct with a 96% positive feedback rating over 70,000 orders placed.

Price is a bit higher at $255.39, (it's a retail box), but if you're desperate and want it, it's there right now as I post this.

I got one yesterday, I was done with checkout in about 3 minutes after the e-mail came in. Sorry to all that missed it this time around.

The blame here lies with Intel not being able to keep up with demand.

There is high demand, thus you get scarcity and short supply. If you don't like that, then you hate the free market, and america and love socialism. Also you hate puppies, apple pie and boobies.

I don't get it. Obama has been in office for 7 months now, and they're still selling SSDs based on the principles of the free market? They should be distributing them according to need by now.

Brilliant post! TheSpoon for prez!

I just received an email from NewEgg, I don't know if they received additional shipments but at least the 80 gig is back in stock! I just purchased one!

wow.

Newegg has just raised the price to 280 dollars now for the 80gig.
Shame on you newegg, shame.

Any other place to buy it near the actual suggested retail price of $229 now?

I thought the whole point of the G2 was to lower manufacturing costs, and therefore, the price of SSDs?
Obviously if people are willing to pay a premium for it, they can get away with it... but it is a bit ridiculous.

Part of the free market is the freedom to tell a vendor to piss off instead of accepting inflated prices. Impatient geek frenzy FTL.

which is exactly what i'll be doing, unfortunately the hordes of nerds willing to buy one at $280 will probably send the price even higher before supply evens out with demand. i don't think newegg even has any competition for the G2 right now, them and zipzoomfly (who are still out of stock) are about the only reputable sites with them listed, so they could set the price at $500 and people would probably still buy them.

Amazon sorta.....it's retail but its like 269 with no tax and free shipping :D

i'm one of the unlucky WA residents that pays tax at amazon so that would come out close to $300 for me :( hopefully in a month the supply will be better, i won't pay more than 229 for one, that's already a high enough price.

Wow.... the 160GB Drive is $500 now.

So, it's up $50 from the point that Newegg canceled my original order. Nice.

And people on this forum were bitching about me bitching about newegg canceling my already paid for order. Seems I was quite right to try to get the drive shipped on to me regardless of the firmware recall.

I would have done the same as you but many didn't get a choice.

Prices shot up through the roof quick. $319 now on amazon at the link you posted. LOL.

Well, I guess I was moderately lucky. I got the 160 gig from Newegg for 439 after the $20 paypal credit. Then the 80 for 225 after the 10% cashback.

I love what the 160 has done to my laptop. It feels like a whole new machine.

This is the point where people should say : Screw you guys, im going home." *in a southpark cartman voice*

and wait for the prices to drop to MSRP

That's what I'm going to do. OR buy another brand. Screw em. They want to jack prices. I won't buy form them. My option. SO they won't be getting my money.

If one wished to purchase the G1 version of this SSD, would they be able to update the firmware at some point to support TRIM?

The present answer is no, but I do feel like Intel will reverse that decision sometime before the true launch of windows 7. I personally think they are trying to boost demand of the G2 up until the launch, then announce firmware for G1 to help retailers sell out existing stock.

Just an opinion, but thats what forums are for. Keep smiling, Keep shining (Odd Dionne Warwick flashback);)

The 160GB is $899. It's getting pretty damn insulting at this point.

I wouldn't give newegg one stinking dollar over MSRP now. Some markup is inevitable, but this is just offensive. I will be making my purchase elsewhere.

Unbelievable! I have been their loyal customer for many years and I do like their service a lot.

But what Newegg is doing now is totally insulting its customers. Ugly as hell.

I agree 100%, from $500 to $900 in one day for the 160GB?

After what I went through with my original order and now after seeing this ridiculous price-gouging, I will not be buying this drive at Newegg. I may take most of my purchases elsewhere as well.

Insane.

Hahahahahahhahah!!! This is getting seriously funny. You can't really blame them though. Their job is to see how much they can get for the drive. Our job is to refuse to buy until they lower the price.

Is that really their job? I could have sworn their job was customer satisfaction and not trying to dick over loyal customers who spend thousands yearly at their online store.

I think it's time to vote with our wallets. Looks like I'll be getting another 120GB Vertex drive for my Raid 0 setup. I'll be saving hundreds.

Yeah it really is their job. If they can sell their entire stock at $900 each they'd be stupid to sell them at $400 each. I really doubt very many people will refuse reasonably-priced stuff from Newegg in the future just because of this incident. If that does happen, then that's Newegg's miscalculation, but it seems highly unlikely. Why would I refuse to buy a reasonably-priced CPU from a company with good customer service just because they happen to sell SSDs at a very expensive price? My bet, and apparently Newegg's bet, is that most people will reason that way.

I spent one hell of a lot more than $900 at newegg over the years, and they just lost me as a customer.

I've got an 80gb Gen2 on the way here on Weds, anyone wanna buy it for $450? :D

Are Newegg prices upped by an algorithm, or are they done by hand? $499 is utterly ridiculous.

Yeah it really is their job.

Thats funny because every email I've gotten from them says "Newegg.com strives for customer satisfaction." I think anyone in retail sales can tell you that this is not how you satisfy customers, and the money you might make ridiculously overpricing one item is peanuts compared to the money you will make from a long list of lifetime customers.

I have one coming Wednesday as well, and I've decided I really don't need it and that I bought it just based on the availability factor, lol.

Since I forgot that there are no refunds for SSDs at NewEgg, I'll sell it for what I paid, 236.00 (229.99 + 5.99 shipping).

I'll send it out on Thursday, since I won't be home to receive it and ship it out Wednesday.. Hit me up with a PM, first PM, first serve.

PM Sent!!!

the G2R5 is now showing in stock, $599 for the 80GB, and $997 for the 160GB. It's almost as if we went back to prices of a year ago (about $799 for the 80GB iirc). Are people really buying them at this price fast enough, that Newegg can cover the huge customer base that they are driving off in droves?
