Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E2140

Doncha love it when you find something like that and it's like "WTF, where did this come from, and why can't I find any info about it, even on Intel's own site?"

Spent a few minutes looking around, can't find a damned thing about it. No SSpec listed for it, no data on Intel's site that I can locate, Google ain't finding much either. 1MB of L2 is interesting, guess this is supposed to be the "Celeron" version of the Core 2 Duo for the extreme low end of the price ranges, who knows.

EDIT: Of course I hit the post button like 10 seconds after that one above appeared... hehehe
 
Cool. Hopefully Fry's carries these soon and has a special on it.

And because when you vist your mom you can turn up the FSB on the rock bottom budget email computer you built for her with your old video card in it and the kids can play WoW or DAOC without screaming that Grandma;s computer is a POS and your mother looking at you with "that LOOK" that says "Where did they learn to say things like that?".

That is not a dual-core processor. It is Intel's new Pentium E, a single-core Conroe, and it should not be called a Core 2 Duo.
 
It *is* a dual-core CPU. From xtremesystems info, they overclock well, but have a 400ish FSB wall (they hit about 100% on the overclock or more). Not bad, but the lower cache does make it much more memory-bandwidth dependent.

The E21x0 chips are dual core. :p They have already been tested on a few sites, including the ones linked above.

Note the box code on the E2100 chips, BX80557. That is a Core 2 part.

Nice for the low end, and cheap, so I'd consider them for simple boxes, etc.
 
But this brings up a good point. Remember how several sites said the Pentium brand was going away? WRONG! :p

and we can't forget about the 2140's big sister, the 2160. 1.8GHz clock, same specs otherwise. :D

E2160 E4300 are pretty much the same price right now. They share the same clock speed but the 2160 has a smaller L2. So why would you buy a 2160 instead of the E4300 in the first place? I'm just a bit confused as to why Intel would have two processors like this both at the same price point. What am I missing here as I'm going to be looking for a budget C2D in the near future to replace a P4 Cedar Mill?

Edit: Nevermind, I actually answered this for myself. I forgot we are talking two different cores here. :)
