Installing the VM client thingy!

Considering I tried these steps pretty much a whole bunch of times.. I had the feeling it wouldn't work again hehe but I followed, step by step anyway :) When I type hostname into the command prompt, it just says Zero, not Stickable Stars.

So then when I get to opening the install.bat file, and typed in Stickable Stars, then my password twice, and got the same:
Stopping MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab.
MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab stopped.
MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab removed.
MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab installed.

I also then tried with Zero and with nothing at all.. and still the same exact message all the time.
 
Ok, a bit of progress.

During your install of Vista did you use “zero” anywhere in your set up? If not you might have to go into network settings and delete your current user account.

Once you delete the user account go back to network setup screen and go through the make a new connection thing.

As to IPV-6 and IPV-4….IPV-4 is the one that looks for the network outside your house. Your router is very capable of dealing with things as windows sets them up but that router has a ton of settings and it’s easy to get one wrong. It’s a great router by the way I love mine.

If you want to make things a bit easier and old school you can go to the tcip ipv-4 settings and click properties and from there you will see a window that either allows for windows to detect your settings or you can change the check marks and enter them old style.

That said, can that machine get on line at all as it is? If it can then we still have a host name issue, which brings us back to deleting the current network connection on Vista and making a new one.

Not being there makes diagnostics hard but panic not, we will get you there.;)

As a quicky test you might want to try the complete host name as shown in the command prompt without the brackets.

My internet on this machine is fine with everything else.. Firefox, WoW, TF2, CoD4, Thunderbird, AIM, everything else.. Everything else works fine, but not one of the F@H clients do.

I'm trying everything.
 
No doubt, you are trying everything and when we get it all figured out it will no doubt be one of those slap yourself in the forehead doh kind of things.

Vista can be a tricky bugger when it wants to be. From that you have two possible host names based on the way the folding program works.

First would be Stickable Stars or second choice would be Zero.

Since you can get on the net it’s not a connection problem, it’s the older then God mpixe program which has more revisions then a Congressional bill.

Go back to UAC off mode and try either of those host names but only as individuals, just one or the other.

Let’s see where that goes. It’s a machine damnit, don’t let it beat you;):D

Ok, this is silly. I’ve seen a number of people throw in the towel on vista and SMP but what doesn’t make sense is the shear numbers of people using this combo successfully.

Leme think on this tonight.;)


 
I am still so sad I can not get anything to work on here :( I mean... I have the same network on both of my machines, only difference is one is XP and one is Vista... but I haven't had any problems on my XP machine :( Still folding for a few weeks now without a single problem on there.. Grrr.. :'(
