1. R520s will be "out" in a couple months
2. If R520s will outperform his 6800U SLI
But what the heck? It's easy to post comments about vaporware you know nothing about as the reason you personally don't have as good of a set up as he does.![]()
Yeah, I heard it has 128 "extreme platinum hd" pipes and 42 "hypermega hd plus" vertex shaders and a 6.00 ghz core. it will have an external peltier-cooling enclosure and integrated 1200 watt power suppy. of course if you live in antarctica and have 3 PCP&C SLI power supplies you can opt to run it inside your case and use system power.pandora's box said:when r600 comes out i will pwn everyonelol

This whole "wait for next gen" thing is a crock, what people afraid to spend some money say to justify their not enjoying current technology.
fallguy said:He may, or may not. His system wont get any slower, probably a hair faster with newer drivers.
IF the next ATi or NV card comes close to the speed of 6800Ux2, for the price of one card, it can leave a bitter taste in your mouth if jump head first this late in a current gen, and spend $1000+.
But who knows, perhaps his system will still be faster. At any rate, as long as hes happy, thats all that matter.
If a card comes out for $500 that offers this level of performance sometime this fall, I say that's good fortune for those in need of this level of performance, and nothing to me.

BTW- enjoy the power OP. You are gaming at a level the naysayers won't be seeing for months. Love my 6800GT SLI.

Tigerblade said:I'd say it's pretty safe to assume it will. With it only being the power of 1.5 ultra's, even if the R520 is *just* 24 pipes I still think it'll be marginally faster, and then you can just pair another R520 to really blow it away.
I think what majority of ppl mean when they say don't go SLi this gen, is that the SLi tech has come about at the time of the next gen refresh. What's the point in paying full whack now, when in a few months you can SLi/AMR 2 new gen cards for probably not much more money?
But then if Nvidia aren't releasing a new card, and you will only buy Nvidia (god knows why ppl are so loyal) I suppose NV will be laughing all the way to the bank.
The question I would like to ask single 6800ultra owners is this : IF the R520 is marginally faster than 2 6800 ultra's and has the same feature line up, would u a) just buy another ultra to get near the speed of the R520 or b) sell your one Ultra and buy an R520 with the option of AMR'ing another? Which would be the fastest option by far......assuming NV don't release a new card (which it looks like they aren't)

tsuehpsyde said:Don't let all this bullshit from naysayers get you down. Some people will just never be able to afford top end shit, so they have to down-talk those who get it by saying things like
"Have fun wasting your money."
"You need to get laid."
"That is going to be yesterday's news tomorrow, n00b"
which are unavoidable. And to which I respond:
"Everyone wastes money, I just choose to on a computer and not hookers and alcohol."
"I do get laid, thanks."
"Yes, but right now, it's the fastest so get over it."
If I diddn't have my current setup, I'd have an SLi rig no doubt....but my current rig will hold out until the next gen comes, which I'll piece together with truely high end stuff (FX-57 and probably OCX VX memory on an SLI-DR board). Basically, there are always going to be two kinds of people: Those who respect a great machine, and those who envy a great machine....they're easy to pick out. If you wait for the newest continually, you'll never get anything built...everything eventually gets outdated, just computers are faster.
Enjoy man.![]()
Tigerblade said:Why do you assume I couldn't afford top end stuff? This is MY OPINION. If R520 is what it promises to be, I'll be collecting 2 as soon as. That will, I assume, be more than 2 Ultra's.....
IF SLi was released when the 6800 series was released then yes....that would have been worth it. But now on the eve of new technology that promises the speed of 2 cards in 1, at the price of 1.......do you not see the sense there or am I banging my head against a green wall? IF you read my post properly, I'm not slating the OP, It's the timing of laying down the amount needed at this particular time.....
The only good in SLi in this gen is ppl that have 1 6800/6600 look at getting another in a year or so when the cards a CHEAP, and gives a significant performance boost for a minimal amount of cash. Laying out a grand now just doesn't seem right to me.
