Ikea desk gallery

Here's how the room is right now. You get a better idea of things. It's a small room. But I need storage. And yes the left side extention is going the wrong way. Like I said I can't complain I got the whole desk cheap.

Could you link me to the guitar wallpaper please?

edit:setup is sah-weet!

I got a very good deal on a nice L shaped Ikea Galant but the color is lighter than the rest of my furniture...for the price I paid-I couldn't pass it up. Has any one painted their desk surface? If so, any tips or tricks? Thanks.

IIRC, ikea sells their stains. Sand the old color off, stain the new color on, assuming its plain wood. Its been a while since I've seen a Galant, so I can't remember if its regular wood or not.

Careful. If it's not real wood and it's a wood veneer, you're going to have one ugly desk.

I don't think it's real wood. I believe it is veneer. Hmm, I wonder if I can just paint over it. Time for a trip to the depot...:D

I just got this desk about a month ago, but quickly realized I needed more space...

This is not the color I wanted, but I got it for a steal, so I'm going to just deal with it...It has plenty of room to add my work dual monitor setup on the left side and then I'm moving my tv to the shelf in between the speakers.

Wow CaliGirl, looks awesome!!

Thanks! It took forever to put together...especially since I did it myself. But it feels nice being able to spread things out and not feel cramped. I do need to go pick up another T-leg to put in between the extensions though. I just feel like it needs a little more weight support [especially if I add a tv].

yhpm... I've got a T-Leg for sale, lol.

Very nice, CaliGirl! Do you plan on adding speakers for the PC or are the headphones for that?

Alternative to another T-leg: get a single A-leg and mount it so the leg angles back toward the wall. It would give you more leg room as you slide left-to-right.

Quantum of Solace, FTW!! I love Daniel Craig -- best, baddest Bond ever!!

The T-leg would make me feel like it's able to bear more weight than a single A leg...but thank you for the idea!

Those speakers were actually purchased for the pc [and they are connected to it]. I find that when I game I use the headphones more, and the speakers more for when I'm watching movies or Hulu. Originally I was going to use my 22" to watch movies and the speakers were set up for it that way, but I've now decided to connect my pc to my plasma for that-I just haven't moved the tv into the room yetand I need to get another video card to run to the tv.

And yes, Daniel Craig is a fantastic Bond! The screen saver for the 22" is from Casino Royale...So I stare at him often :D

Just got my 1st Ikea desk all set up. Still might make some changes and my computer is a work in progress....

Loving the stainless!

It's an Ekby? or something. Costs about $400 out the door including the 2 stainless Lack shelves that I'm using for storage (they might go away though). I cut one of them shorter and with some welding on the one end you can't even tell it was done.

Got these specific shelf sliders online that are for keyboard drawers. I might take another stainless Lack shelf I have and shorten it and use it for a keyboard drawer. I've never had my keyboard on top of my desk so we'll see if I get used to it or not....

I need to purchase myself a Galant as I'm moving into an apartment where I'll be able to have a designated study/computer room. :)

shawnoen: The stainless looks awesome!

Dude, the stainless is sick, if it wasn't so expensive I would immediately run out and grab one.

if you do pics and sell me back those monitor mounts? :p :D

What would you all recommend for lighting my Jerker up? My dad got jealous of my Jerker and went to Ikea in Westchester, Ohio to see what he could see. All I brought back was a Tertial lamp. Completely failed to get the 11w bulb for it, but for that price for just 2, I could get 10 at Graybar locally.

I'm looking for more ways to light up the desk. I'm also interested in nice switches to put underneath the desk to turn the lights on and off. Don't care about the brand, Ikea is too far to justify another trip this month.

I'm also wanting to buy a second Jerker, salvage some parts of the underframe and a leg, and build a neat side shelf to add onto my current Jerker. Can anybody figure how much exactly the entire rig weighs and sizes up when disassembled?
I'm scouring Craigslist for another and the only ones I can find are still too far away to pickup myself. I'm considering extreme shipping prices. Would it be cheaper to ship it to my college than to my home?

I've got my head all filled up with things I would like to do to and with this desk :p

Edit: Also, any suggestions on a great cable management system? I want to mount my surge protector on the backside, but I'm not sure what the best way to go about that is.

I got this Galant for $50 from craigslist, and I want to order some extensions from Ikea. Can anyone tell me if this is the current "Beech" veneer? It looks quite orange.

I don't know how old the desk is, and I know Ikea discontinued/changed the veneers at some point.

I also got a Jerker for $75 with the same veneer from a different guy.

It is not the current Beech veneer. I do not think Ikea currently sells that veneer. It used to be called medium brown I believe. I could be wrong on the name, but I know the only currently stocked veneers for galant are: Black Brown, Birch, Beech, and White.

Ikea Signum works. But I had to drill the underside of the desk to fit it.

That's the "old" beech. IKEA's colors do not unfortunately stay the same over the years, that color beech isn't available anymore (even though it has the same name). The new one will darken slightly over time, but it will be lighter.

if all else fails, get the black/brown for the extensions - would make a two-tone desk, but that probably wouldn't look half bad.

My current arrangement...

Here's a shot of the room as far back as I can go without running into wall...

I cleaned up all the cables and wires running everywhere throughout the room... I am pleased with the power of zip ties and velcro tape :D

I would never let my computer sit on the edge like that... things tend to fall over in my room.

So things just fall over in your room randomly :p if so, maybe you have a ghost
Really though, it would take some effort to knock my case off... and it would require someone besides me to get close enough to knock it off... and I'm going to freak out long before they get that that close to it

Yep that's the Insignia bookshelf speakers. You see it everywhere... why? Because it's awesome!

Insignia speakers correct? If so, how do you like them

That's right. I love them, I've had them since they went on sale for $50 or so for the pair and I've yet to find another pair for that price (or even under $100) that could outperform them to my ears. Plus I love the way they look :D

I have to get that chair where did you get it?

I'm pretty sure it was Office Max... it was on clearance and I think they might have been discontinuing it, not sure though. It's was around $250 normally and I got it for $130. I think they still carry one that is very similar but not exactly the same.

I work at Best Buy and I get them for $40 lol, as soon as I move to my new place I will be getting those with a nice receiver.

Well for $40, I don't think you'll be disappointed... they're a great set for that price. They are great on my Onkyo receiver as well as on my Logitech Z-2300 sub... but if you're hooking them to a receiver I would recommend a subwoofer too. They are really clear and have a good soundstage, but they are not super powerful when it comes to bass. They do provide a decent amount of bass though, depending on what you play through them of course. All in all, I would not trade them for any of the speakers at Best Buy under about $150 or so.

yeah, i was going to get a sub too. just waiting for them to start carrying a insignia sub, lol

Hi Guys,

Sorry I have no pics to post at the moment. I plan on buying a Fredrik in the next month when I move back to college.

Has anybody here got pics of the small Fredrik? I am way too stressed from study to search for one..

I'm in a bit of a bind because I think I may only be abe to fit a small one in my new room which really sucks because i'd love the big version..

Has anybody tried using one of the shelves to raise up their monitor(s)?? I think i'd try that if I can't get a monitor stand...

That would be sweet if they had a sub that matched the design of the speakers... I'd buy it :D

When I was using my old Jerker desk, I actually had my monitor on one of the shelves to raise it up... worked pretty well. Well actually here's what it looked like...
