Ikea desk gallery

While the jerker was amazing, the fredrik is no slouch. Lots of room and plenty of function. With the jerker gone, it's the best desk out there in my honest opinion. The old king is dead long live the king. Galant is nice too serves a whole different market of desk fans.

I guess its about time to update my pic. Waiting for a PR server slot to open so I can get shot in the face.

Hello all. I'm new to the forum, I have been reviewing many of the posts on here and it has inspired me to add to my Ikea desk setup that I just made. I just got a Ikea Byske table top, Vika Kaj adjustable legs, and the Signum cable management add on. I applied about 4 coats of their Behandla Wood Treatment Oil before I put it to use (which was more work than I had expected). Now I just need to research and buy a new monitor and a monitor shelf and/or mount. The monitor I have now is destine for a portrait setup. I would get the Ikea shelves but I don't feel like driving another 45 minutes just to get a small piece of pressed wood.

Thank you. To be fair it's clean because I just set it up and didn't have time to mess it up yet :). I still need to find good desktop organization to put all my clutter on/in. I like yours too, esp. the lighting. What screens are you using? I'm in the market for a 24-26 inch.

I'm using the Asus VE248H. It has LED backlighting and colors look awesome. You can find them for $210 US.

Probably the nicest TN panel I have ever seen. My buddy got one and I ordered one that day. I love the lighting too. I saw some of the light setups in this thread and decided to bite the bullet. They are LED lights so they don't even get hot. Its been for gaming when I want to turn off the room lights.

Fredrik <3

Indeed, not sure how i would go about doing this with a Galant or two. The desks are for two different types of users really, not all that easy to compare.

It's slightly tidier than that now, need to update.

And the award for putting 10 pounds of stuff into a 5 pound bag goes to...Rossi~!!! lol

How does it not fit in your apartment? The Jerker isn't very large.

Awsome. I have heard and read that the ve276Q is a popular 27" for gaming. Have yet to see one in person. I have worries that 27" potentially might be too big for the resolution and for up close gaming. Though i'm probably wrong? I was mainly considering something like wra18th mentioned, an Asus VE248H or a VW246H, or perhaps a Samsung B2430H. But 27" does sound tempting. Decisions, decisions.

And Rossi, nice setup/gear. I'd consider a fredrik in the future for my turntables if they can fit side to side with a mixer on it.

cuz i live in teh smallest place lol
my bedroom is 12x14 IIRC.

My queen size bed takes up the majority of the space.
between the end of the bed and the next wall is maybe 3' of space.

that wall has a full length countertop/cupboard area.
so i have a corner desk that makes walking around a tight squeeze lol

believe me, i tried everyposition imaginable of the bed, dress, and desk to make the jerker fit.

it's just too deep for the space.

Move it out of the bedroom?

Sounds like a 3 room jail cell like another guy who showed off his sink next to his rig.

Anyone else living in jail cells on this forum?

The ones that hand on the side of the metal bars. I have seen people use them for their speakers.

There are two Fredriks being sold locally in my area. One is a black 38" and one is a white 50". I want a black 50" so im going to wait until one shows up on CL.

Are you sure you're not talking about Jerker side shelves?

Oh so they dont make it for the Fredrik? It look like it's interchangeable

I want a black 50" Fredrik with the high metal bars but dont want to spend $150 lol. Hopefully somebody in my area puts theirs up on CL.

I don't think they do.
If you don't want to pay retail, you can try your luck with a Jerker on CL. But side shelves are a rare find.

i have some jerker swivel shelves. i am considering selling all my jerkers combined with all the accessories i have

Bought a Fredrik and some multi-color dioders at ikea today.
FYI, the all of the colored dioders are down from $40 to $30 and marked as "last chance".
Also bought a Summera (I think it was summera?) cable management wire rack that hangs under the desk. I had to get a bit creative as there wasn't room to mount it on the Fredrik in the back, so I had to angle the hanging brackets, which worked out just fine with the way they all attach together.

How wide are the Jerkers? I want a relatively big desk. Ive been eyeing the 50" wide Fredrik.

Yea my current desk has a keyboard drawer and I wish Ikea made this add-on for the Fredrik.

If there was a keyboard drawer on it then Id probably be fine with a 38". Since I do a lot of studying and homework on my desk I need plenty of room.

Scooting from one end of the table to the other you'll bump into those legs in the middle. Check Craigslist -- you might be able to get a Galant at fraction of retail price.

Can anyone tell me how these desks are?

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49888889

I would love to move my eyefinity setup to a Galant but cant afford the desk and all the addons. Seems like i can get a decent corner setup Vika Amon for around $200

I got a chance to see the Vika Amon tables/desks about a week ago and they are a very good value. The Galant series is a bit more sturdy and comes with hight adjustment, where as the Vika Amons are much more hollow particleboard with no hight adjust unless you pay more for the Vika adjustable legs. For a desk setup on a budget, it's hard to beat. I personally went with one for the solid wood desk options, the Vika Byske, and have no regrets thus far.

cyberkost has a good point too. Depending on your normal motion, those middle legs could be an issue. The Galant series has a frame underneath that reduces the need for middle legs.

I have read that you can install a keyboard drawer to the Fredrik. For example, check this out. You just have to be willing to do a little drilling.

Thanks for the link, would be nice to do.
The only prob with the summera tray is that it isn't nearly wide enough for my G15 and Ratpadz.
If I decide i want it badly enough I may head over to home depot and grab some drawer rails and matching particle board and throw something together.

Thanks for the input guys. I hadn't thought of smashing my legs, good thinking. I'm going to check them out at ikea today.

If i like them i'll stop at home depot and pickup some metal straps and get rid those front few legs.
