Ikea desk gallery

Boyiee-Anyone have any other suggestions? Just to get the monitors up to eye level so I'm not looking down on them.

I've seen them in Home Depot and Lowe's. I think they're $40 for the set of 3.

My suggestion (for the color of the desk you have) to go with IKEA. If you're not going there yourself, maybe a friend or a family member is going to drive close to IKEA in the next month. You might also ask your intermediary to pick up Capita legs (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20049538, available in different heights) - many have been successful in using them for creating a nice looking and fnctional monitor shelf.

I'm using 2x26inch panels now and soon replacing one with a 30inch from dell. The stands are nice but I'd rather use something like the Lack from ikea or some other piece of wood. Thanks for the lighting info.

@cyber, yeah no one ever drives near ikea, but I was planning to use the capita legs if I ever went back. I may just have ikea ship them and just get wood from home depot, anything to save myself an hour+ drive just for a stand.

Well, after a week of work, here is my ikea galant home office. (Huge thanks to all those who contributed to this thread, as it was great inspiration)

Desk is all galant series
4x Jonas Drawer Units
Monitor Risers are Galant Half Round + Capita 4" Legs
3x Effectiv Wall Cabinets (Aluminum/Glass doors)
1x Lack Shelf
1x Expeddit Coffee Table

Edit: Bookcases in closet are Billy 31x80 and 15x80

I have 10 Grundtal lights that will be placed under the cabinets and lack shelf, I just haven't had time to do that yet. Will post back later. Sorry for the poor camera.

It's so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.:D

Looks great, but needs some molding to cover the wires going down from the TV.

Anyone have a good recommendation to get my monitors off of my desk and at eye level? One is a 30inch, one a 26inch, both in landscape. The half circles are great with capita legs, and I may go with that. Ikea.com is out of stock on the Lack model which I was going to go with, and I'm having trouble finding a monitor stand that can handle a 30+36, let alone just a 30.

Trying to avoid driving 1.5hrs to ikea lol.

I personally wouldn't use the Lack shelves (if that's what you were referring to) for a monitor stand due to the fact they are hollow and only contain cardboard stuffing on the inside. Maybe someone here has more direct experience?

I used the lack 6" legs and an aspen board that i bought from Menards for like... $20 i painted and finished the wood in black and looks RIGHT at home used as a TV riser so i can put my cable box and center channel speaker underneath it. PM me if you want pictures. I just upgraded to 8" lack legs because i got a bigger center channel.

I'm in the market for a new desk and stumbled onto this thread. I love the style of these desks, but then I looked them up and saw the price tags. I find it a little odd that such simplistic desks are so expensive. I must be missing something, so can someone tell me what exactly is the reason for them costing so much? It seems like I could just buy a $80 6 foot banquet table or two and essentially get the same thing.

They're from Ikea? lol

Apparently Ikea moved between your posts? The first time it was only an hour away, now it's an hour and a half. Just drive out there, you know you'll find something other than a shelf to buy when you get there.

It's around an hour and 10-15 on a good day, and in jersey right now we have snow, so that adds time.

I was there on thursday and did not find anything, I would much rather avoid a second trip. The post above telling me the lack shelf is crap was quite helpful in fact.

You from Joisey? I'm from Joisey. What exit?:D

been planning this since last october or november. can't remember. total for all the desks was $375. the only thing i did not buy on craigslist was 3 more t-legs from ikea. i drove to maryland for the first half, then to woodbridge for the capita legs and jarpen shelf, norfolk for the other half of the desk, then back to woodbridge for the t-legs and one quarter circle end piece. i decided to not go with the half circle end pieces.

i even had enough parts to make an extra 44 inch x 24 inch galant desk (not counting the half circle end pieces). no room left though so i will store it. i am considering this painting to round out my room with the pictures i will put up so tell me your thoughts on this. http://imgur.com/xMAEp.jpg

i also plan on taking a shot with my 2 laptops on the desk. kinda forgot :p. also will put my speed limit sign up :)

i am by no means finished. i plan on putting some clothes on that shelf by the door or removing completely at some point. in the meantime the boxes will go in the closet and the futon will be pushed against the door.

i am happy to have a charging area for misc small things like cell phone and mp3 player, a spot for both laptops, and an area to sit cases on to work computers withou affecting me doing other things like being online or on the laptops.

i was inspired by Lotheron . thanks agan :).

Can this particular version of Fredrick (the largest one) desk be raised via the adjustable ikea legs that i can buy separately? Are the adjustable table legs compatible with Fredrick? I know about the adjustable version of the Fredrick desk but i NEED the width of this version since the adjustable version is slightly narrower..I just need a slightly higher Fredrick.

And dont tell me to get a Galant and piece them together. Galant doesn't have a tabletop that measure 55 x 28 which is EXACTLY what i need. and it doesnt have cable management like the Fredrick does.

Wow lol, old picture bump

Home office redone for 2011 - the Galant cost me a fraction of my previous desk but noticeably more functional. I love it . . . if only I had room to add more extensions!!!

FE1250+ with the DVI adapter mod to push the res and refresh rates. Got it for $20 the guy said it was a NEC FP1350X, but when I got home I realized it was a FE1250+, but with the DVI adapter mod it works just as good in terms of res and refresh rates.
