I was having a bad day because the water in some of the pipes under my house froze and broke the pipes.

Then after crawling under the house and fixing what I could, I checked the progress of my UD clients and I just hit 100k points. :D

Yay for me! Thumbs down on Texas weather  and for me forgetting to let the water drip overnight :(

You hit 100k?/ it shows 96k :D

but that does suck but congrats on the points

Congrats! I'm about a week away...can't wait to get to the milestone :)

UD is a little weird that way, but they've always maintained that what the client says is whats right. They also only run stats once a day.

Congrats on the 100k too!

Get a dual core intel box and put it down by those pipes, that'll keep it from freezing.

Actually, we have a big old drafty Victorian house and we're cheap, so we set the thermostat at 45F. The warmest spot in the house is the office where I have two boxes folding 100% 24/7. I have seen the case temp as low as 12C and the Barton CPU temp at 100% as low as 34C. They heat up the room nicely.

QFT on that - dual-processor heaters are even better. If only it weren't so dry here - I keep waking up in a 90 degree room with 0% humidity, which is a bad place to be :(

Snow day today :D

45F!! That's great!
Your not cheap if you fold!
Leads into one of my stories-
Back about winter of 1985- I'm sitting at the computer (Commodore 64 - did not fold) early one morning, and my stepson age 9 (then) comes walking down stairs making a "choo-choo" sound. Walks over to me and says"I've never seen my breath inside before".
I try to keep my house warmer than the refrigerator in the winter and cooler than an oven in the summer, but SWMBO wants it 70F in the winter and 65F in the summer :(

Fold ON!

My house is just cold all year round....Moose fur is a bitch. :p

45 degrees? Holy lord man! And I thought keeping mine at 60 degrees and wearing extra layers was thrifty. Meh, then again, my bathroom/hallway/bedroom are actually themostat temp and my livingroom is always like 10 degrees colder, as 2 of it's walls are exposed directly to the outside and there's no trees or anything in the yard around it, poor room gets beat up for heat.

But, my bathtub has a register under it, so it's always nice on the feet when you step in for a shower in the winter. Baths this time of year are excellent as well.

45F is pretty damn cold inside. I still haven't turned on the heat once yet this year at my place, and it hasn't dropped below 60F, even though yesterdays high was 40F. I'm really liking living in a second floor apartment with people above and below me that must spend a forture on cooling and heating. I don't have to use my utilities much at all at my place.

45 is just crazy... ours is set to 65F, but I usually turn it up to 67 when im chilly.

I guess i'm just a wuss like that. :( :D

If I could convince myself that 45 degrees was good for me, I'd have an entire army of computers folding in my basement. But it's just too cold. So I have my laptop and my BigRig. My laptop keeps my lap warm.

I fixed my pipes. Just thought I'd let you know. Yay for me :)

Now my sig says I'm over 100k. See you at 200k.

45 degrees! F o r t y f i v e degrees! Man, that is cold. I keep it at 62, which I thought was chea..... thrifty. All the more power to you bud.

Ciao for now ...

I usually like to keep it around 70 degrees in the winter although I let it drop to around 65 if I I'm going to be gone most of the day. I should add that's the temp of most of the apartment. The living room and dining room is at least 5-8 degrees cooler due to the big living room window, drafty front door and the sliding glass door in the dining room. The apartment manager sent out notices about a month ago that said that we aren't supposed to let the temp drop to below 65 even if we are going to be gone for extended periods. I never leave for extended periods but I'm not happy with this. If I'm not going to be there, I'm not paying to run my heater that damn much. And if they are worried about temps dropping that much, then they can get someone in to replace the POS windows that don't insulate for anything. Anyway, enough of my ranting, I guess.

During the summer, I try to keep the temp below 80. I can't afford to keep the A/C running full blast and the aforementioned insulating problems don't help with trying to keep the place cool. At least I'm on the ground floor and the sun only hits my apartment in the morning.

Me too...let the neighbors to the heating and cooling :D

Pipes freezing in Texas
I live in TX now, but grew up in Wisconsin. They have a very nice solution to the pipe-freezing problem--for every outside spigot, there's a valve on the inside of the house. In the winter, you close the inside valve, open the outside valve, and let the water drain. Voila! No water to freeze in the pipe!

But yeah, I was out there making the spigots drip overnight, just like everyone else...

To make my life better, I just stepped on and broke my d4mn glasses. :( :( :(

WTF, I'm leaving for a five night cruise in two days and won't have any glasses.

At least, my comps are still folding. I'll leave the 2GHz P-M and AXP 3000+ folding 24/7 while I'm gone. Hopefully, I'll pick up a few thousand points.

PS - for the record it got down to 19F without the wind chill. Not really that cold (I was raised in Maine), but cold for a house built in the 1890s in Texas.

Wow, that sucks. Squared. Have an old pair around at least? :(

now I have two "old" pairs. One pair got severely scratched on concrete at a pool party this summer and these babies have cracked lenses.

Oh well, without the glasses, I'll have permanent "beer-goggles" for a lot less than it usually costs.

That's one of the advantages of living close to Galveston bay. It hardly ever drops below freezing down here, like it does on the north side of town. The lowest temp I've seen here in 11 years is 25F, and it's never stayed below freezing for more than a few hours during the night.

Must be nice, last Tuesday here in Kansas the temp got down to 2F when I left for work at 7:30 am, and with our traditional 10-15 mph constant wind the windchill was -11F :(
