I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!

Great for hiding cables under too... Space under the PSU, space behind the bays, space behind the Mobo... Awesomeness.

I was thoroughly impressed with how much room this case had... Honestly, if you only need the bare minimum... 2-3 harddrives, 2 DVD drives... Best case I've had to work with...

Unfortunately I need a minimum of 6 HDD spots right now  Using an Antec 900 with 2 3in3 bay modules and 2 DVD drives... might look at the Antec 1200 when it comes out or a bigger Lian-Li... :)

 you could do 7 and 1 dvd drive or 6 and 2 dvd drives.

3 in the supplied hdd module.
1 in the external 3.5 bay.
1 with a 5.35 -> 3.5 adaptor.
2 with a sunbeam wherever pci rack.

I wouldn't recommend running any thick cables, like the motherboard power cable, under the PSU if you have a PSU that has an underside intake fan.

I have a thermaltake toughpower psu, and the only cable I was running under it was the 24pin mobo power cable. I started to smell something burning. Took off the front cover, touched the psu, and it was HOT!!! Ran the cable another way, and it is fine now.

You do realize you can flip the PSU over... so the intake fan is facing up.. :D

Can someone explain to me how the fan clips latch on for the Thermaltake Ultra 120?

Although, I demolished the ones that came with by twisting and turning them around so much already. But, there's still hope with so many of you guys having the same fans and heatsink.

Oh, I tried to latch onto Yate Loon 120's and no go with stock fan clips (despite twisting the heck out of them!!)

To everybody that has an A05B... I would like to thank you all, I finally ordered one! :D I can't wait to get it! I got a Lian Li V1000 as well and this little case is going to be a great little sister for her. I thank you all for posting your pics, etc. 'cause that's what finally encouraged me to buy one... well... that as well as the $30 off and free shipping. :)
I got big plans for this little case. I'll be glad to have a smaller case for a change... I've had full towers and larger cases forever. There's a few other small cases I like alot, but none of them accept a full size ATX mobo and none of them are Lian Li. I can't wait to attempt some good cable management in this sweet little box. Anyway, that's really all I had to say right now... so thank you all again for sharing your thoughts and pics of this cool little case. I should get mine sometime this week.
Later guys.

I just bit on one of these cases to use as my server box... and I'm forcing it to have room for 6 or more hard drives. :D Pix will be up when I finish it. Hopefully by this weekend.

I didn't use the clips. I just wiretied the fan to the heatsink, although I had the exact same problem and it frustrated me to no end.

For mine I simply dremeled the solid part column that would go around the fan screw off.

*sigh*

I ordered mine 4 weeks ago. They were out of stock so I wasn't expecting it immediately but I started getting impatient so I contacted NCIX... another 3 weeks :(

Just finished my roof mod. I can tell you, the VC cooler is much happier with a fresh, cool supply of air now. Temps have gone down all-around.

the roof vent, ordered from Frozen CPU. Its an a/c Ryan grille. I'm using the Silverstone 120mm that came with an old NT08 I had lying around. I have it on its controller, barely audible.

I am not seeing this on their website... I would love to get one of these!

Also on a side note, does anyone have a picture of this tower beside a normal Lian li mid tower... I just want to see what it looks like compared to another tower as far as size goes..

Thanks
-Nigel

You're not seeing it because he did all the work himself ;)

I am new to the forum and saw everyone's pc-a05b rigs and I am amazed! I was wondering if someone would please go out of there way and see if a power supply with an 8" length will fit in the case w/ a full ATX motherboard with impeding with any of the board components. There is a 7" power supply image but I own a thermaltake 1000w power supply that is 7.87" long, I am afraid it will not fit.
I was also wondering where to get the side panel cut at? Can I go to Home Depot or something? I know they sell kits with the windows and stuff, but no one really discloses where to simply get the original side panel cut.
Thank you for the help, i await responses soon!
Can someone link me to a website with cheap side panel kits and cable management kits?

I think it will go over the edge of the motherboard, and whether or not it hits anything depends on the motherboard. It appears that it extends out to just before the ram slots. What motherboard do you have?

Guys I am still trying to figure out how to improve the exhaust on the front of the case without completely ruining the clean look. Small cleanly drilled holes in a vertical rectangle pattern is the only thing I can think of that would look halfway decent. plan to overclock my new system as far as it will go and I do not want to have to snap off the front cover ever time I am going to play a game or something.

Please give me some ideas!

My psu is a very tight fit at just over 7 inches, so I doubt yours would fit.

You would think this thread would be in the Case mod Gallery will every other case manufacture. But this isn't a Lian-Li gallery its a A05 gallery.

I want this case, but I am afraid its not big enough. But ti could be.

That's my rig, I really want an a05b but it seems like my power supply is too long..can anyone think of anyway to fit my 7.9" power supplly in? I was thinking of going to where ever it is that you guys go to get your cases modded, and having them drill a hole in my front cover and screwing my power supply directly into that...it is mighty ugly, but account for the extra inch in length. Again, where may I get the cutting done at? Any ideas?? That is the one thing that is hindering my entire rig,

Well my Lian Li has arrived in my area and is scheduled to be shipped out in the morning... hopefully I'll get it early so I can do the build. I'm going to cram two hard drives, a full size ATX motherboard, DVD drive, Zalman 9500, and my old 7900GS... as well as maybe a fan control device, or maybe an LCD... haven't figured that one out yet. I am hoping for good cooling as I will be changing out the stock fans with better ones. I may cut a nice blowhole in the top as well... I hear that it really makes this particular case shine. I am excited... I know, I'm a geek... but hey, it's a Lian Li, what do you expect. I'm going to try to post some pics when I get it all built and wired up nice.

Later.

Hey fellas here is my self made exhaust!

I was thinking something along these lines but on the front panel... *gulp*

It would not have the screws sticking out since it would just be an improved exhaust for the fan that is already there.

Any suggestions as far as getting the holes straight? Has anybody done this? I think this keeps the clean look of the front more than slapping a grille on it, especially if I could find a way to "paint" the inside of the holes so that they look black as well.

well you could just figure out how far you want em spaced and then line em up on the computer, print, tape and drilll... it would look like older LiLi fronts w/ the holes for exhaust/intake

If I was doing something like that, I'd want it done on a CNC machine.

I hope porn is allowed...

Potentially NWS...

Here's my A05 porn! :p

This is just a rebuild of my file server, so it is still a work in progress.
To do list:
- sata raid controller card with 4 ports
- 3x 750GB hard drives in RAID 5

Right now it has 2x 500GB drives, 1x 250GB drive, and 1 raptor for the OS. Its just a 939 AMD 3400+ with a gig of ram and gigabit ethernet. It serves my HTPC and other file sharing needs.

Thanks.. lol. That is kinda what I was going for. I wasn't sure how the Athena 3 in 2 SATA backplane would turn out, but it indeed does look much better than I expected. It isn't that loud either. There's a variable fan speed switch on the back of it. But I was going to go with a bigger case and a 5 in 3 SATA backplane, but I decided I didn't need that much room. I can fit 6 hard drives now in the A05, and that is plenty for what I need it to do. I love the way it turned out though. It was a spur of the moment decision. :p

Hey w1retap, I like what you've done with the case... looks great. You have now inspired me to look into something that I completely forgot about when building my A05B... the external optical drive. That seems like a great way to go with the A05B... saves room in the case for more stuff and plus it just looks pretty cool. I already have a good DVD drive, and there are some really good 5.25" enclosures out there that match the class and style of a Lian Li... yours for example. Thanks for reminding me :).

You're welcome. :)

Incase you guys were wondering, I went with the Vantec Nexstar 5.25'' USB2.0 enclosure. It is made out of thick aluminum and has a blue LED, so it matches pretty well. It does have a fan on the enclosure which really isn't necessary, but it is probably the quietest 30mm fan I've heard. (less than whisper quiet)

Thank you for posting the link. I was going to PM you regarding the enclosure.

Have you encountered any issues burning disc?

Didn't try burning anything yet, but it works with DVD-ROM disks.

on a side note, what color red did you paint the theater room and who makes it? i can't remember off the top of my head lol
"Red Theater" theater is the paint color.
Sherwin Williams makes it, and it is the "duration" paint. It runs around $57/gal or something ridiculous like that. And it took 4 coats to actually make it looks right. It is a bitch to paint with.

really? damn. its a nice red.

on topic: damn nice A05B :D

Could those of you who have this baby watercooled please list exactly what wc components you are using?

I'm really interested in this case, but I'd like to see a setup where someone's figured out the perfect combo of high-quality watercooling parts to use. Something that performs well, doesn't require case modding, and fits in the case with a minimum of hassle.

Anyone, please?

Well I finally got around to modding this case the last few days and finished it/took pictures last night. Spent the last portion of last night + most of today working on re-imaging my drive; I didn't have any luck transferring a DriveImage copy of my XP IDE drive over to my 320g SATA Seagate (which is now my XP drive), guess because the old one was IDE and the new was SATA? Couldn't get it to boot...anyhow. Here's the pictures.

Inner temps have dropped 5C for cpu and graphics card (although they were plenty healthy to begin with). HDs running 3-4C cooler as well...probably because there's less hot air blowing their way from the rear as well as the psu.

This was my first mod and my first experience with a Dremel. I'm quite proud, luckily my window has a rubber tubing 'frame' otherwise you'd see an imperfect hole. :D The top went much better since that was technically the 2nd thing I've cut with a Dremel. I didn't want to use regular screws, I wanted something that would look really nice for mounting the Radgrill to the case and the fans to the Radgrill, so I bought these "socket head cap screws" from Lowes and secured them with 1/4" nuts. (I got the idea for these screws off mnpctech, but they sell them for 3x what I paid for them.) I did have to drill bigger holes in the Radgrill for the Yate Loons but otherwise it worked fine.

I had a few issues here and there...mainly, I didn't cut the window big enough so I had to work with that for awhile. And I had to trim the Yate Loons up top just a little to get the nut to fit where the screw holes are in order to get them secured to the Radgrill.

I also ditched my floppy drive since I never use it anymore. ;)

I thought I might have issues by not going with a modular psu (like the 620HX) but I didn't want to pay $60 more for that over the 550VX and honestly, there's a big enough gap on the opposite side of the HD cage that I was able to fit everything fine.

Now I REALLY love this case.
IMO this is probably (at this point) the best cooling case with this amount of noise, especially because a) the front isn't mesh like on the Antec 900 or CM690, and b) with the motherboard mounted upside down, the cpu and graphics card heat rises straight up to the exhaust fans especially since the graphics card fan is upside down-facing towards the exhaust fans so the air goes straight up rather than around the card and then up.

I'm GLAD I decided to mod this case rather than sell it for a CM690. :)
