I finally ordered it.

I'm in the process of building a new system.

So far I have:
A ThermalTake Tsunami black case.
A Zalman reserator 1 fanless water-cooling kit.
1 gig of Corsair XMS Pro XL pc3200 ram.
1 Pioneer 16x dvd-rom drive
1 geforce fx 5900 ultra vid card
1 sb audigy sound
1 160 gb hitachi sata hd.

I just ordered tonight:
1 Athlon FX 53 939
1 MSI Neo2 Platinum
1 Ultra X-Connect 500 watt modular power supply. (Blue)
1 Pioneer 4x DL DVD-burner

The only things I still plan to order are:
Geforce 6800 ultra
2 74 gig raptors for raid.

My only thoughts are that I should've bought pc4200 or pc4400 ram for overclockability purposes. If that ram doesn't work for overclocking very well, I'll just ebay it and buy some higher speed memory, I should be able to get most of what I paid for it back if I decide to sell it.

If the MSI board turns out to be flaky like alot of people are saying, I'll rma it. If that isn't possible, I'll ebay it and buy something else. I've always used VIA chipsets in the past, so I figure that if this board doesn't work out, I'll go back to the company that has treated me well on my last 3 boards, (Abit). I might possibly go with another n-force board like the Asus. I don't know... we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. ;)

congrats, thats gonna be a dang nice system when you put it all together :)
wish i could have a system like that

really like the zalman reserator idea... i'm struggling with fan noise as we speak :(

note that i believe zalman has yet to put out GPU block that fits Nvidia 6 series... even though it doesn't say so on the web page... nvidia changed thread size of HSF mounts going from the series 5 to 6...

If it's just the thread size that's changed, you could probably just get different screws, or even use the factory screws that come with the hsf to mount the block, unless the holes don't line up with the zalman block.

I just looked on the Zalman forums, and there is a guy who says he has his waterblock working with a geforce 6800 ultra.

That's gonna be on hell of a kickass system. Aren't those Raptors going to kill any queitness that you gain from the Resorator? And I would forget the RAID though....everyone knows that RAID 0 in a desktop does nothing for improving performance.

I've never seen a raptor in person, I've only seen the specs and reviews. So they are pretty loud then?

BTW: Thanks everybody, I'll post pics when I get it all put together.

that's true. you should only get 1, 74GB raptor.

i'd say the raptors are not very loud unless you are doing something extremely hdd intensive.. like defragmenting or virus checking. during normal use, ie loading game maps, opening files, etc., they are farily quiet. IMO of course.

as for the raid0 bringing no performance gain, it matters what he will be doing with his computer. it looks like a primary gaming machine by components so you could be right, but a powerful gaming computer is also very powerful in many multimedia applications ;).

Here's one concern I have. The Tsunami case has 1 90 mm window fan, 1 120mm case fan in the front, and 1 120 mm case fan in the back (near the cpu). I'm just wondering how loud these will be. What I may wind up doing is buying zalman harddrive heatsinks and leaving the case fans off. If I'm water cooling the gpu and cpu, and the mb has a little northbridge fan, and the hds have heatsinks, there's really nothing left to get hot is there? What would you guys do?

One reason why I went with the fx 53 instead of a lower end 939 cpu is because I have read that the 1 mb of cache helps out alot in software compiling. I am majoring in computer science so I will be doing alot of development and compiling on this machine. Possibly 3d image creation as well, so that was *one* of my reasons for spending the extra dough. I will be doing alot of gaming, of course, but if I am doing alot of development, would raid be better for that?

Here was my plan initially:
Use 1 160 gb hitachi sata hd for windows. (I already have this.)
Use 2 74 gb raptors in raid for linux.
Use 1 200 gb external seagate firewire hd for extra storage. (I already have this).

I've got the same case and it's pretty quiet. I don't even really notice it. It's there but it's a very low background noise. You shouldn't have any major concerns. The case is nice and roomy, and with a bit of work I've managed to hide most of my wires and cables, there isn't much room behind the MB tray though.

Since I got the x-connect power supply, all those cables are going to be uv reactive and rounded, as well as my ide cables for my optical drives. Other than that I just have all the little hd led, etc cables and the sata cables. As long as everything looks organized, I don't mind have the cables viewable, since they will glow.
