pay $700.00 for cpu+mobo+1gb ddr2 667 memory module (going to buy 3 more in the future)
this is expensive. i don't know if i am going to buy a directx 10 video card, maybe i don't need one.

the mobo is a intel d975xbx
the memory is cosair, is it any good for use with this mobo?

what about you guys, anyone going to upgrade?

Intel D975XBXLKR (i can't find no other intel with the d975 chipset, is it the only one anyone know?)
 
I actually want to replace my 2.4B but not until the DX10 cards come out so I can build it up from scratch (still running AGP). So yeah, also waiting for the new mobos to come out too.

Either get 2 512 sticks or get another stick, but please do not run 1 stick on an Intel chipset. Without 2 sticks you'll be forced to run in single channel and you will take a BIG performance hit.
 
My thunderbird 1700+ can eat a conroe for breakfast any day.

Join the club. AGP all the way :p Hopefully I'll be building a new system by January (probably later on though with all the delays of product releases).

Yeah. A thunderbird is an Athlon regular (not an AXP). A 1700+ would have to be a palomino, TBredA, TBredB, or maybe some crazy rare-ish Thorton or something like that (Barton with half cache disabled). Pencil trick was more of a Tbird thing though.

I want an E6600, but these preorders are a bit nutty. I'd like to say go tank guys but then there is policies like 5% if cancelled, but no time limit there? Basically they all want to charge you extra but for no product? A spot on a waiting list and to basicaly give up any power you have as a wanted consumer? Meh... nope.

Better hope it's the rev. 304 for that motherboard, the earlier ones don't support Conroe without hardmods :(.

Yeah pre-orders are not for me. I'm waiting till ZZF and the EGG get them instock.

Or maybe he was just waiting until he could afford the other stick to have 2 x 1Gb. (I would hope / assume!)

I got 4GB of DDR2 533 in mine. I gotta tell ya...it's pretty fantastic.
