I've been waiting all summer for this. I have a mITX board in a microATX case. I don't have a PCIe 4x slot, so I am going to use an M2 to PCIe 4x adapter. My M2 slot is on the back of the board, so I will be carving out a hole on the motherboard plate, and using a extension cable to wrap to the wigig card included in the kit to available backplate slot.

Fingers crossed for 300 dollar experiment! Wireless Beat Saber will be the new hotness.

Experiment begins, and so far with limited success so I am posting here for tips, pointers, and troubleshooting.

Step 1. cut a hole in the box.
Check.
Step 2. put M.2 to PCI-e 4x adapter in the box.
Check.
Step 3. make her open the box. or I connected the WiGig card to the adapter using a 4x cable. The LEDs on the risers show 3.3v and 12v power, and the Blue led on the WiGig card is on (and obscenely bright) but windows/htc wireless software doesn't detect the card.

I got a 2-fer of these adapters. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074Z5YKXJ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
and this cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWNVKT2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

MB is ASRock Fatality B450 ITX gaming (https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITXac/index.us.asp) with a 2700x. I caught myself removing the gfx card to test in the x16 slot, but then remembered 2700x has no iGPU. I don't see any NVMe or M2 options in the BIOS.

I am open to suggestions.

Depends on the type of m.2 slot. It may only support storage depending on how it's set up. Not all m.2 slots are the same.

oh, and I am totally open to ordering a new ribbon cable/riser, if that part could be suspect. Amazon reviews indicated that they are pretty fragile, and I may have damaged it while shoehorning it into the case. Is it possible to damage data pins, but not power pins on a cable like this? (as the card did seem to be getting power)

EDIT:
based on what I am reading on Amazon, it seems like quite a few people are having similar issues with the cables - board gets power - but that's it. I will try another cable to see if I can get past this. I really want this to work. Then I will come back with my Instagram-worthy JPGs of the case mod. Nailed it. /sarcasm.

Well shit. Even after I get the WiGig/cable issue working, looks like HTC didn't bother doing QA on high end Ryzen systems.

Let me know once you get this working, I am in the same boat with the riser combo but want to make sure it's functional before going through the effort of dismantling my build.

there has been some reported success with the m.2 to pci-e adapters. Either way, I will update when USPS delivers my new cable. It suck that now can't isolate to just the cable as the Ryzen chipset issue is so prevalent.
