HTC One (M9)

This whole generation of Snapdragon 810 phones should be skipped. But why the M8 instead of say the Moto X or Nexus 6? Just wondering.

He's running an iPhone 4 for pity sake... he needs to buy something NOW. The 4 and 4s are virtually unusable at this point with their current iOS installed.

I have both 4 and 4S used for testing occasionally, iPhone 4 is pretty much fucked after iOS 7. iPhone 4S with iOS 8.3 now is still running pretty well. Quite surprising compare to the S3 my wife had.

I had to get rid of my 4S when it got iOS8 it was so bad. Made me want to throw things.

iOS 8 when it first came out is a freaking piece of shit.
It's not just about the slowness, also the bugs that plague all over.

iOS 8.3 fixed tons of crap now, it's actually gotten a lot smoother.

Just updated to iOS 8.3 on 512MB DRAM and it's painful for anything beyond navigating the UI. Bring up CNN in Safari and you want to throw it at the wall.

Just got an m9 developer edition and couldn't be happier. My advice - go to the store and try the phones out for yourself. The state of smartphones reviews these days is really splitting hairs between what is great and excellent. For me, the developer community is what pulled me towards the m9. As excellent as the hardware is on the Galaxy 6, I just couldn't see myself living with a device that I couldn't mod from the ground up. The m9 is a great device if aftermarket development is important to you. XDA already has multiple respected roms available for the m9 and it's only been out on shelves for a day.

Anyone know how the M9 compares to the M8 in terms of audio components?

Thanks!

The stereo front facing speakers sound better, but not louder. I think it's the Dolby settings. As for headphones, it's definitely louder. I think HTC added a better internal amp. I don't believe many audiophiles would need an external amp with this phone, but they also probably didn't need it with the M8... Again those Dolby settings makes it sound better even with the headphones. There's just some annoyances having to go into settings to adjust between music mode and theater mode.

I can't wait for this phone to get released. Although I love my M8. Just not the recent Lollipop update I got for it. Ugh.

What about battery life, durability and the camera? These are the things that matter to me.

Battery is a step backwards from the M8. Which is odd considering it has a 2840mah battery versus the 2600Mah in the M8. It might have to do with the the 810 chip. Just not one of Qualcomms best offerings. However it's still probably at least average.

The build quality is excellent and it's one of the more durable phones you can buy.

Camera is the weakest among the current flagships. Even with the newest software update it's still medicore (vs the competition). If camera quality is very high on your priorities, I would look at the S6, the upcoming G4 or maybe an Xperia.

I was going to hold out for the Windows variant. So unless they get the wp10 rom going, then I have limited choices for a flagship. Was hoping the M9 would be my savior..

Thank you for the info though!

well that sucks, i was hoping a WP10 variant as well, camera for me would be important, not as worried about battery with WP as it seems to be a bit more gentle when it comes to power usage

All these things have been great for me. Just my two cents. Build quality feels better than the S6 I tried in the store. Battery life has been great. I got through a full day at work today with about 70% by the time I got home. No complaints about the camera but it was never a deal breaker for me anyway.

The HTC One M9 looks really great, it's amazing how far HTC has come. I think I'll buy the M9 but I'm still waiting for the price tag to drop a bit
