HTC HD2

Eventually it will.

By time WM7 is where I would consider upgrading to it my HD2 will be needing replacing anyway so I will be in line in 5 days for a nice new HD2 which is going to be plenty fast and fun. When its burned out on me I will be ready for something new and hopefully WM7 will be able to fulfill those needs. Or Android has matured enough to be desirable...

Who know's what will be around in a year or two.

FWIW, I got my HD2 Tuesday morning, and I'm returning it tonight (Thursday.)
WinMo has crippled what is the most stunning phone I have ever seen. I am quite sad.

I'm considering selling my iphone 3g toward a purchase of HD2. I want to take advantage of the 3G and see the speed between it and edge.

Crippled it how? I took a look, this phone is pretty awesome, but I like WinMo and there's TONS of ways to customize it.

It sounds like they are out of the HD2's pretty much everywhere anyway.

Sucks... my cliq is on the way back to them so I've got nothing...

Taking a look at it in the store is one thing, you'll fall in love with it like I did. Take it home for 2 days, and realize what a piece of shit WinMo is.

Cons
  • Annoyingly hard to import Google Contacts / Calendar
  • Could not get my work e-mail to work, due to a certificate issue
  • Lengthy hangs, and hard locks (which required a reboot)
  • General e-mail weirdness with Gmail (I'd read new emails, and they kept coming back as unread)
  • Overall a bit confusing, not very intuitive. Menus and settings are buried 3-4 screens deep in some areas
  • Facebook app was absolute garbage
  • Opera and IE are really shitty compared to WebKit browsers (Safari and Android broswers)

Pros
  • AMAZING HARDWARE! Big beautiful screen, great camera with led flash

Again, it's the most amazing hardware you'll ever see, but Jesus Christ, WinMo needs to diaf.

I dont know personally myself, but i've heard most issues with winmobile 6.5 are fixable with customized community software, you may want to look into it.

Just wait a few short months and the monster phone of all phones will be out, it is the StarTrek Tricorder from the future, called the HTC EVO 4G, or it could be reversed engineered technology from the Aliens on the far side of the Moon the Apollo astronauts were warned to never talk about.

And the best question I read about the HD2, what if it did NOT come with the HTC Sense-UI, but just normal WinMo 6.5 skin, I bet half the people would not even look at the phone then. I hear that once you go deeper ion the phone past the Sense-UI, it is nasty compared to Android OS, and iPhone OS.

If your in the market for a new phone, just wait, there will be 2 killer options this Summer, the Sprint HTC EVO 4G, or the next generation brand new iPhone4G, that will be no slouch either, trust me, Apple knows they have stiff competition and will make a better phone this time.

True, and I was on the XDA forums looking into it. Here's the issue: I shouldn't have to look for custom .cab files to fix a phone that came out the very same day. It's inexcusable.

I'm basically waiting to see what Apple does. I'm hoping they're not so dedicated to the iPad that their development on the 4th rev. of an iPhone has been lacking. The EVO straight up gives me a boner, but I'm hesitant to go to Sprint.

We'll see what the phone landscape looks like in Q3/Q4.

I did not have any problems setting up my email accounts or importing my contacts from google, outlook (ATT Fuse backup list) and windows life. Some of the order was wonky but that has happened on every phone ive had, pre smart phone days included.

So far I am finding the Sense UI working extremely well on WM6.5, and WM6.5 much more stable than 6.1 was. Perfect? Hell no, but I am happy with what I got for the price. Lots of fun things to play with and customize.

I'm very interested in what others think of this phone, hands-on. Trying to find one... I did come across several people returning them.

What I want is a phone like the EVO.. but on Verizon.

Seems like we'll be waiting for a while, though.

Lol this phone is absolutely sold out every where. called every single T-mobile store and authorized dealer/ asian stores. Not a single store has one. thats about 30 stores here in the houston area. I had to resort to craigslist to even find one. Will be picking this up as a replacement for my iPhone until the new one or the EVO comes out.

What do you want to know? I'm loving mine. I do wish there were more apps in the store that were designed for high quality phones but whatever. I am amazed by the screen, the touch on it I find better and more sensitive than my wife's iPhone.

Have not had too much time to just mess around but I am extremely happy with it. Was not sure how I would like the keyboard since ive had physical qwerty ones for years, but swype makes it very easy.

Lol, When the store I was at on launch day sold out everyone else in line ran to their cars as if the other stores miles away would still have them. I just went home and ordered it online :)

I keep hearing people who experience stuttering slow-downs, and lock-ups. Granted I haven't SEEN any of this but I keep hearing it. From what I saw in the store and limited time with the display I think I would really like it.

Again though I keep hearing the few apps that do pinch zooming and what not get very slow and laggy when this is going on which would kill it for me.

I have never had a stuttering slow down, but I have been a WM user for a while so I am used to being a task manager hawk and killing any application I am no longer using to keep things running smoothly.

I have had a few weird bugs but nothing that has come close to making me regret my decision to buy this.

There are only a few programs that use the multi touch abilities, but thats more up to the software people who make those applications. I find the screen more sensitive and responsive than an iPhone so I am very happy with how it works right now.

Opera seems to be slower with the multi touch zooming features but its only because the program is reformatting the text so you can read it without scrolling all over the site.

The only lock ups I have had was a known one from the voice command options menu, and once where I was using the streaming radio app and the phone wouldnt unlock. Have yet to recreate that one so I dunno. No biggie.

The lagging is most likely due to open programs, i.e. multi-tasking. I noticed this as well during my visit to T-Mobile. The fix, open task manager and close all the open programs. After I performed this, it was very snappy again.

Despite my positive impression of the HD2, WinMo 6.5 is a deal breaker for me.

And WinMo 6.5 is history shortly. The device to have this year will be the decendent of this device with Windows Phone 7 on it. With Zune on it it will simply rules all other phones for media would be my guess.

But I've seen this device and its awesome but UNFORTUNATELY I'm on Verizon otherwise this would have been a non-brainer for me.

lol this phone makes windows mobile barable just. i am typing on it now. i love it overall though.

I dunno guys. I saw it in the store today. It's pure sex in a phone form factor for sure, but it is almost and I say almost, too big. I mean, the phone is almost as big as the original Motorola flip phone (obviously much thinner however).

I thought it might be too large, but I think its just right. Anything over 4.5" and I might agree with you.

As it is my thumbs cover 3 buttons each in the portrait keyboard layout so I still have issues on accuracy :) Thank you swype for fixing most of my keystroke error's hehe.

My friend just bought this phone. I'm really liking it. I really love the big display.

hopefully the next iphone will have a screen like this

Don't count on it. People's wish list for it is just that: wishes. Multitasking, flash support (yeah right), better screen (possible), AMOLED, customizable home screen, etc..

Apple better implement some of these at least to stay relevant. Especially with the Droid selling as well as it still is and all the other Androod devices.

I bought an HD2 on release day, and it's simply the nicest overall experience I have had in a phone.

I've used Two Blackberries, Two Android devices and countless regular cell phones begining with a Motorola StarTAC :)

There will always be personal preference and a bigger/better/faster device coming out...

The N1 and HD2 are simply the best devices available today, and you can't go wrong with either.

Sprint will join the fun this Summer with the EVO, and all that means for us is that we get to choose.

I love competition!

Oh yea, I forgot the IPhone, that might be because that's one device I have never even picked up. Not sure why not, I guess it's just that I live in Maine, and ATT is absolutely horrible for reception here.

well my friend at HTC gave me this yesterday and i have to say i really like it. As soon as i have google sync installed I will like it even more.....of course im just using it "as is"..and not installing apps. So far so good.

My father just bought himself one, and I spent some time messing with it. First thing that stood out was the significant size difference between it and my iphone. The camera is fantastic, and the weather app is a pleasure to look at. I'd consider picking one up as my next phone if the upcoming iphone is a disappointment.

I like the phone, but its not as good as my Nexus One..well for me its not...its fun to play around with but im putting my sim back in the Nexus.

I'm writing this from my HD 2 using swype.I must say overall look very happyi work this phone except one thing is bothering me to no end. The built in sms client lets the phone to the point of a ten minute lock up if you have multiple text mssages saved. This post also serves as a plea for assistance. I use my phone for everything including texting and mms messages. There use a working work around for the sms issue but none thar truly work for the mms. Ive searched high and low tried everything but nothing works. I can disable the htc client and still send and receive sms but not mms.The work around for sms leaves me sad and mmsless.Iif anyone could help I would be grateful. Anything but the flawed non working arcsoft would be new to me and I would be happy to hear and any suggestions on how to resolve this. Me and my befriend entered into a two year contact for these two hd2's help us not regret it. Much thanks

I know if you get 50 - 100 sms's saved on the thing it can get a little laggy and delayed when using that function. For MMS I guess the way it handles the attachments can cause some problems to, but I have yet to receive an MMS.

What type of problem are you having with the MMS? Keyboard problems, lag, issues with it making them smaller in size?

The best "work" around for now is to see about keeping those messages in check and delete them before they cause problems.
