The problem with Kyle is his ego and his emotions. He is not a professional. His articles on not being invited to AMD's Polaris Tech day were really cheap stuff. Now hardocp is getting a review sample inspite of the rubbish he wrote. That shows AMD is still treating him and hardocp professionally inspite of the recent rubbish written by him. But Kyle is unlikely to get any invite to AMD events for a long long time. He has just screwed his relationship with AMD big time. All because he let his emotions get in the way of his work (which is a journalist who reviews PC tech). I'd argue that the bigger problem is people letting their own emotions get in the way of looking at editorials like that logically and carefully looking over the opinion provided. Instead they fly off the handle and act like it's a sin to dare to even consider having a negative opinion about the next super hyped product from the underdog company.

I'm curious in light of some people's opinion of HardOCP currently what they think of Techreport and Anandtech if they have full RX 480 coverage upon NDA break and before comparable coverage of GTX 1070/1080 is posted? They were both sampled cards along with other review sites.

So you think the rubbish he wrote about Polaris being hotter and slower than the competition and about RTG sale was all perfectly professional. A professional person would wait for the product to launch and review it objectively and give his opinions based on factual data and not rumour mongering. Anyway if you want to applaud his editorial thats your opinion. imo it was just cheap trash.

Factual data: Polaris 10 is only good because it costs $230 (8gb version, ofc) and not $330.

Actual rumor mongering: if said editorial was about nVidia, you would be first in line to applaud.
 
TR only just posted their 1080 review. It's kind of sad how it's a shell of itself these days, used to be one of the first places I went for critical content.
I'm going to chuckle if TR has their RX480 review, on the other hand, ready at 12:01am June 29th though :p

As for AT, they've been mobile-focused for a while now, and often release their reviews with entire pages and graphs missing once NDA breaks haha.
There's also that bit about their forum db getting compromised :p

Sorry I would not applaud any opinions on actual hardware without real world testing and factual data even if it was a Nvidia GPU. Why don't you wait for Rx 480 perf and perf/watt comparisons from various sites before judging the card. Secondly we don't know for sure if Rx 480 is the full Polaris 10 chip. There are rumours that P10 is a 48CU chip. btw when was the last time AMD's fully enabled mid-range chip came with a single 6 pin power connector. HD 6870 , HD 7870 were all dual 6 pin cards. It looks like Rx 480 is a successor to HD 6850 / HD7850 with actual power consumption around 100w. Anyway here is a comment from an Italian hardware reviewer (Atlasrush) who has information from his industry sources that fully enabled P10 is still not released.

What if the June 29th NDA is for the 480x/490 and the 480 NDA is sooner • /r/Amd

Anyway something to ponder is the GPU codes for Polaris 10 - 67C0 and 67DF. 67C0 is the fully enabled P10 chip while 67DF is for salvage parts. Rx 480 is 67DF:C7 while Rx 470 is most likely 67DF:C4

First and foremost: we already know with 100% certainty, Rx480 is Polaris 10 XT, the fact that you're out of loop for so long is kind of hilarious.
Next, there were never even once a rumor about 48 CU chip. Your bringing of that one up is just hilarious, considering your opinion on Kyle's editorial.
Third, if rx480 was a 100w chip in actual gaming scenarios, it would be promoted like one, considering that since Tonga, AMD uses Typical Board Power for their video cards and there's little reason to shift back from that for AMD.
Fourth, the comment you bring up is from before rx460 announcement. The actual Polaris line-up is 460/470/480, he got number of cards absolutely right.
Finally, we've had that discussion already and 67C0 WAS NEVER SEEN IN THE WILD. Unlike Polaris 11 ES and Polaris 10 ES (67EF/67DF).
And want to know my source for Rx480 using Polaris 10 XT? AIDA64.

You have absolutely no idea what journalism is, do you? Holding on to information just because it might piss off some company or put fanboy's panties is a wad is NOT professional. If Kyle was confident in the trustworthiness of his sources and was not prevented from saying anything either by a NDA or in service of protecting his sources then he should share it. There is nothing in journalistic ethics that says "avoid annoying whiny little fanboys" and they sure as fuck don't tell journalists to avoid pissing off companies.

There is no 48 CU P10 (I'm doubting that there is a 40 CU version too), and he never stated rx 480 will use the entire 150 watts that can be supplied to the card either also I don't think anyone here expects that either.

FYI, in Furmark, Tonga XT easily goes into about 250W worth of power consumption despite "only" having 2 6-pins, in fact i am being conservative in my expectation that TBP for rx480 will be about 130 watts.

Unless you have factual data on paper coming out of AMD that Polaris was suppose to be priced at 330 but they had to price it at 230. What you said is just desperate attempt to knock down a product. We'll know the truth in a few days either way. Pre-NDA "leaks" are always a bit suspect. Personally I never fully trust anything until after the NDA is up. There have been too many cases were supposed leaks over or underhyped a product. I always find it rather silly to use those are proof of anything.

You are putting your own words into my mouth. My words are precisely that or "Polaris 10 in it's current form would suck if it was priced at above $300". I don't claim AMD expected it to perform to warrant such price tag (even though i agree with Kyle) as a fact. What i claim is that rx480 at price tag above $300 would be a fiasco, not even delivering sizable progress from r9 290 for the price. Now, indeed, that's a bold statement to claim with no hard data existing right now and (up to be confirmed by someone else) not even actual Polaris driver available to reviewers. But i am positive it's true.

I have been here a while and I have been disappointed with HOW Kyle writes his articles, not the factual data contained within. Personally, I believe he should have taken the high road but instead he let it get personal and that is why a lot of us are not satisfied.

I like AMD because generally speaking price/performance is very good. However, AMD has been very dumb as of late and they are paying for it like MAD. If this $220-240 wonder card smokes my R380 then I migth get it...
