How many computers have you built in your lifetime? Just curious as to the experience level, as gauged by this.

Im 16 years old, and in the past year I have built 3 machines. 2 with 3200+ A64 and 1 with a 2700+ AXP.

Since you only went up to 8, I had to select that, but I'm drawing near 20, if not there already. It's an addiction, I have a new build planned for next week. Of course, this isn't counting rebuilds, I'm sure that we've all done tons of those. Hell, I just do them when I'm bored on weekends!

God I have no life! ;)

Lowish 3 digit number? Closer to 8 though if we're talking personal use.

I've done alot but not nearly as much as some of the people here probably have.

many more than 8, i can tell you taht much...

im probably aproaching 50 at this point...

on my own personal count builds 5. first one was a pentium 133 with a old diamond rendition card. all the way up to my asus a8n-sli deluxe 3500, 6800gt. I've built about as many for friends and random losers

I built my first computer back in 1990, it was an Intel 486 25MHz... lol.

Way too many to count. More than 8 for myself and many for many others, so I voted "8"

Actual new builds 4. Rebuilds/upgrades....too many to remember.

Hmmm, built my first when I was 8 in 1998, owned a systems integration company, PCFX, been in systems integration for over 7 years...so, thousands?

the options should be spread out a little more. There should also be an option for 50+ of which I will belong to :)

OMG, I built so many it must be close to 200 by now. Mb more then that.

I've built atleast 20, of course only 3 for people in my house incld me. I'm 14, first build when I was 12.. Wish I actually had time to go full time on this.

Round 3 a month on average. I did get one nice production contract last november. Between my buddy and I we did 120 in 15days.

30 or so since i was 15 ... i'm 23 now and semi retired. I only build them for people i really like, otherwise i reccomend people buy macs

Ouch that's cold. And that is coming from a former mac tech.

Just want to throw it out while its been mentioned already.. I posted above... but..

I <3 my iBook :)

i made my first build in january. since then ive done 2 more, one for my friend pat and one for my grandparents. theres wasnt as fun as mine, they didnt have any graphics cards to put in. :D ps: i love motherboarss that have the voltage ratings low, medium high and extreme for vdimm (see ECS km400 mobos)

way more then 8 over the years prolly several dozens..especially when i was younger..now i m more selective..usually i only build for friends those usually want high end that want the latest and the greatest..but i usually dont charge..just do it for the fun of it..hehe i m sure many local computer stores hate ppl like me lol

It doesnt go high enough? LOL... Well i think it should be a poll which states, how many have you personally built for yourself or a friend, but arent in the business of computer building. Sort of a hobby type of build. The rest of you guys, HEY, you get paid for it...lol..

I have been into computers since 1993, i have only built 7 since i got my 386sx and began my crusade of wasting money just to play games... it might be 8 now that a historical ww2 tour i was going to be taking in sept. is sold out... but i cant go to overboard, i will still need some loot to hit Quakecon 2005 with my new system..heh

Usually, I end up building myself a computer and then shipping it off to someone else who wants to buy it off me :). 8+ definitely for me too.

More computers the merrier is a phrase that i enjoy, but i am not able to enjoy it literally cause i have built up around 4 comps. Then 2 were dismembered and sold in pieces, now i have two systems wish i had more than that. Then again whats the point of having mroe then 2 comps, i have been considering that but cant think of a reason. I would still enjoy having at least 4 working systems round' the house, just for good times and satisfaction of knowing i have more comps then i need.

literally a few hundred from when I worked at a distributor.. back when "top of the line" was amd 386dx40's lol.

Let's see if I can get this right...
Personal favors in high school, about five plus my own three.
Tech in high school four years running, probably about fifty to a hundred ranging from 486 up to early P4 (Willamette).
Tech at BBY for another year, about 25 partial builds, call it eight-ten altogether. (Not anymore, thank goodness!) And that doesn't count stuff like just throwing in RAM or a video card- that'd be in the hundreds at least!
One year in college, about 10 and my own two. (Overlapped with BBY, but separate.)

Yeah, I don't think your list goes high enough.

Did I mention I only got into computers freshman year in high school (about 15), and I'm turning twenty in a few months?
