[HOT?] Mad Max -- $3.99

If you like Arkham Asylum style combat and typical open world objective based progression then you'll like this game. Upgrading your car and destroying the caravans was really fun.

Or just pay $6.79 on steam where the developer actually gets a cut for the sell? If not then you might as well save the $4 and pirate it.

I enjoyed it, it was one of the few open world games I did everything, and explored everywhere, its too bad it didn't get the funding the turd Just Cause 3 got...

Loved it. Played it through on Linux. Frame rate doubled once they released the vulkan version. Well worth it.

Really? Really? How do you know that the keys were not purchased in bulk?

I didn't think the combat was as smooth as Batman and Shadow of Mordor. Maybe I should pick it up and try it again.

You have no clue if the keys were bought in bulk. Also, if the key activates on Steam I am good with that. If you think that is equal to piracy well I would rather not get an account mark.

I also just bought it to spite you.

It's $3.99 -- where do you think sites like those get their keys?

The only one you're spiting is the developer of an awesome game, while giving money to chinese bottomfeeders that are cancer to the health of the videogame industry. The economics are actually worse for the developer/publisher than just pirating the game, because they end up having to pay for the key (think chargeback fraud).

Here's a shocker. The same thing here may be cheaper around other parts of the world. I bet you have a vpn and use come kind of torrent to dl "linux" distros. I legally bought the key, activated it on steam, downloaded the game and will probably start playing tomorrow. If You don't like me legally doing something that is too bad for you.

As far I'm aware, CDkeys has not been caught in a stolen key scandal yet. That is more of a problem with sites like G2A and Kinguin that have open markets. Also, there is very little chance that the developers are seeing a penny of any sales from this game. WB hired Avalanche to develop the game. They likely did it as a contract job, meaning they were paid x amount to develop it, potentially with promises for another x amount based on reviews or sales performance. Since WB owns the franchise there are no royalty checks going to Avalanche, all of the money is going to WB. And considering how much WB fucks gamers on a consistent basis I simply can't muster up any sympathy for them if they do get caught having to pay charge back fees.

I'm playing this now, one of the best I've played. I have it 4K max settings on Vega Crossfire and still getting 100fps, this game is well optimized and looks great.

Many folks like it, but I found it repetitive and quit after about 8-10 hours.
Haven't downloaded MM yet, am playing through Watch Dogs 2 -- which is amazing, surprisingly.

Driving down street.
Sees a green arrow on mini-map.
Proceed to green arrow which is another player dropped into my map.
Player sees me.
Player runs over to my car and stands on the hood.
Without speaking, understand he wants to surf down highway on top of my car.
Drive by proceeds.
10/10.

I fucking hate this shit. Hate it. All I ever read in reviews was "Mad Max is repetitive!!!" as if, especially at the time, that couldn't have been said about ALL open world games. It's like people HAD to hate the game for some reason and this was the main problem. Metal Gear Solid 5 at the time doing the same shit over and over in the same areas? No problem. Arkham Knight had you do the same shit over and over, again, no problem, game got much better reviews. Bah!

I personally loved it and didn't think it was repetitive at all. Sure, you had to do the same thing over and over for a lot of stuff but the game played SO well, the controls and fighting felt SO real and impactful, the scenery and graphics are SO beautiful, the world as dead as it LOOKS is teeming with stuff to see and explore...just a lot going for it in my eyes.

I don't know, I like apocalyptic type games and this one did it very well with a lot of attention to detail. Like the Relics which really gave the player a deeper look into the world of Mad Max and, while simple things, were often discovered in unusual areas and the stuff Max would say sometimes made the game all the more real.

Yeah, I don't know, I can see some of the criticisms. For sure. But the way the game was received by critics made no sense to me in light of other games at the time and how much this game did actually do very well.

Plus when you look at "critic" scores vs. "user" scores the users think the game is FAR better than the "professionals". Steam alone has the game nearly all positive.

Anyways, I can get a little defensive of this game lol...

The game is somewhat repetitive, but it's still fun and worth it. I'm about 30 hours in but only halfway finished, mostly because I was trying to 100% it. Now I'm skipping some of the side missions and just doing the story. It's great.

I picked this up a while back and it's been on my list of games to get to...I finally started it today and have to say that it seems like the type of game that I'll really like, but the initial experience was a little bit disconcerting. There were multiple issues which at first seemed like serious bugs, but I think I've traced most/all of them to options in the settings menu that were just set janky for some reason. First, the game seems to want to default to windowed mode. Second, when I started the game I couldn't pan around with the mouse, so I thought that there was something preventing the mouse from working...turns out "mouse sensitivity" was set to 0 and increasing the value fixed that. Third, I thought I was having sound issues in the form of extremely low or missing audio at certain times. Yep...cutscene volume was also set to 0.

Frustratingly, after changing these settings to what they should be, they seem to get reset to the same wonky values every time I launch the game. I read that that was a common issue and that it was supposed to have been fixed by a patch, but it's happening consistently to me so hopefully making settings.ini read-only fixes that.

Once I corrected the issues and played the first mission, things were a lot better. I really dig the Mad Max universe and enjoy open world games like this, so as long as technical issues don't get in the way I think I'll be singing the game's praises along with most of the rest of those who played it.

Like I said...:meh:

Doing the same thing over and over is literally every single video game in existence. Whether or not something is "repetitive" really comes down to personal taste and how each person feels about a game.

Do I really have to clarify this? Are there "repetitive" games that I enjoy? Sure. Is there enough variety though in the ones that I like that it makes it enjoyable. Yes. Mad Max is simply not the formula that I liked, and the repetitiveness of what you do for the reasons you do it lame as fuck and repetitive in a way that makes it un-enjoyable to me. It simply did not hit the formula that did it for me. I gave it the old college try and put 7 hours into it but I knew within that 7 hours what I would get if I put even 30 hours into it and I wasn't going to stick along for the ride. I had fun for a few hours, but fell out of it. Perhaps one day I will give it another shot, but not any time soon.

I thought Mad Max was fucking beautiful, with a pretty good combat system. It's the stereotypical open-world ubisoft game with unlocks, so if you're not into that type you're obviously not going to enjoy it. But I loved the atmosphere, so it's a steal at this price

Not too mention, it's incredibly well optimized. Looked and played solid on my 2500k with a gtx780, I can only imagine how it looks on my current rig.

Definitely plays better for me on a controller though.

Played through a couple missions this morning and like it so far. Figure if it gets too repetitive at 8-10 hours will have gotten my $3.87 worth.

Game started in 640x480 ... how quaint. Fortunately it stays at 1920x1200 after restarts and runs smoothly for me with everything at "Max".

Post apocalyptic Igor (Chum) was amusing at first, but can see it getting old quickly.

Been using keyboard and will switch over to controller next time.

Chum ain't so bad! I think I used keyboard and mouse most of the game...works well either way. Don't forget that you can switch to first person when driving as well!!!

What he meant is almost every game is repetitive and it depends on how much you like the gameplay in it whether you'll like it or not, and not on how repetitive it is. For example Horizon Zero Dawn, is repetitive as hell, and it's still considered one of the best games of 2017 by most people.
As it happens I consider mad max one of the best games of 2015 despite of it's repetitiveness. Why? Because it is fun. For example I could've driven over a thousands scarecrows it would never have gotten old for me. There were only a few elements in the game that were repetitive in a bad way, like clearing minefields or fighting topdogs.

Did not know that. Thanks for the driving tip. I almost never play 3rd person games, so this one has been a learning curve for me. One that was needed it seems.

If you haven't gotten there yet, you'll see Chum in a different light, poor little fella.

Yea the mindfeilds are about the only bad part of the game for me. So far I'm enjoying the hell out of this game. Sure to could have been a little better in certain aspects but for the most part it's a good game.
