Wow, talk about a PITA.... after running a 3043 to 7% 3 times for the fail, I just got another 2653.

What a waste of an hour!

Look in you work folder.
Is there a results file from when the work-unit failed or did it delete just all your work ?
If there is a results file then you can use qfix.exe to send the partial results back.
Instruction here.
Not only will you some some points for the work but it will also tell Stanford that a bad work unit could be in the wild.
That way other folders may not get it to fold.
Also report it Here.
I alway check there if I get a EUE, just to check if it could be my boxen or is it a bad work-unit thats been reported before.

3043's finish for me. I've had very few WU's that fail. I think out of the some 800 WU's I've had 2 which had issues.

 
I just picked up a 3060 last night, its hitting about 13mins a frame i think on my new 3350 at 2.89ghz. I'm only running 1 client for now while I work the overclock, which sadly i haven't had time to do lately. Maybe on sunday i'll have some time...

 
Half my clients are now running P3060 WUs. I'm going to change the client type setting per Tiger's recommendations and that should make a difference. Some of the new WUs are not that stable.
 
I changed the client type to 0, but I'm still receiving the same random set of new WUs. Is there another step besides this to make it work, or is it only for Linux? All I did was modify the value in notepad.

 
Well, I set up a dual smp, and to my dismay..... I downloaded a pair of 3060's. However, it looks like I may come in at 23 hours which could mean a 5k + day for the quad. ;)

It's still hard to tell though because there seems to be some inconsistent times between frames.

I don't understand how you people get such high PPD values with a single quad when I'm struggling to get 5000PPD with a dual quad and the new WUs. :mad:
 
For some reason unknown to me, my quad folds larger proteins faster.

It takes about 17-18 hours on average for a 2653. Yesterday I knocked out a 3050 in 16 hours.

What's your setup exactly? Frequency, OS and number of clients?

Q6600@3.6, XP, 2 SMP clients and AC.


My occ is a little unstable right now due to lack of proper cooling on the mobo. Should be fixed tomorrow morning.

Obviously you're doing something right if your machine is at par with an 2.8GHz 8-core server also running XP.
 
Really though, my fold time is varies on these 3060's. I don't estimate it to be under 23 hours, however, it may push all the way out to 29 hours(max).

All I can really do at this point is wait and see.

Normal, w/ 1 client per boxen in my sig are good for 5200 PPD. Thats only if the quad doesn't reboot on me.
 
I just did 3% @ 21 minutes each. I'm at a steady 12 minutes per % now, but I'm already bumped over 24 hours.
 
I'm running my Q6600 Quad's @3.1 Ghz, 345x9.
Running dual VM's with a Linux client inside each gives me just over 4,000 PpD.
Just under 20 hours for p2605.
That works out to be 330 PpDpGhz which is about the max speed the SMP client runs at.

I've got my Dual Quad X5355 Xeons at stock, 2.66 Ghz.
Running quad Linux clients inside VM's with a Linux client inside give me either ~6,100 PpD or ~6,500 PpD. The 5000V chip set crunches faster than the 5000X chipset.
Around 25 hours for p2605.
Speeds of 285 PpDpGhz & 305 PpDpGhz.

Ice, it hasn't made a difference in my clients and I switched all of them to type 0. I think it will only make a difference if you're either running dual-core systems or VMs, not quads or higher, unfortunately.

One trouble is that you tend to get sent back to the same server you last used, untill that server runs out of work-units.
Which is why you tend to have strings of good & bad work units.

One way around this is to shut down just after you've uploaded your latest work unit and before you download your next.
Then remove your UserID number.
When you restart, Stanfords thinks its a new computer and with a bit of luck, you'll get sent to a different server.
How well this will works depends on what Stanford has to fold and what piority the advanced method flag has, etc, etc.

I do know at the moment, running inside VM's, youre better off without the Advanced Methods set.

Today, I have several boxen .. try 6 -8 times to get a WU.
These are the boxen that have been running for over 30 days ...

They finally got one but took a while ....

Tiger's suggestion seems to be a good short term solution.

I wish the client would do this for us ..
 
Same here almost every single box is doing this... I know its not a network issue because I've tested it and it is full balls at 6MB/s down and 640Kb/s up ... Just be patient each machine after about 20 minutes does get a WU its just a shame that we are losing that precious folding time!

 
My desktop (Opteron 180) grabbed a 3043, its barely going to make the final deadline (by 34 minutes). Spending all day playing WoW certainly didn't help. PPD for that box is down to 483.... :eek:

I see. No one mentioned this before. How do I go about changing the UID? Registry?
 
Don't hold me to this, but I did a search (running Vista BTW, running XP or other may be different) of my registry and found the UserID @ HKCU > Software > Classes > VirtualStore > Machine > Software > PandGroup > Folding@home.

I'd suggest a key backup just in case something goes wrong of course.

[edit] Also found one @ HKLM > Software > PandeGroup > Folding@home. Although I think that one may be the remnants of my old regular client stuff, don't know.

Oh, and I've been getting the newer units all week also it seems. After getting pretty much nothing but 2653 for what seems like ever, I've gotten 3043/3051/3052/3060s[again!] 3062's today[/again!] now. And this morning (one of) my client(s) died @ like 84/85% on a 3060 I believe :(. I may have to consider going back to the damned single SMP instance, after only starting the AC a week or two ago :)() - at least until these bastards (hopefully) clear up... Being that my quad is my gaming/DTV rig too, I'm having a hard time meeting the preferred deadlines (as reported by F@HMon/F@HSpy), at least on the 2500 pt'ers... That or bump up the voltage a notch or more again and see if I can squeeze a nice extra o/c increase out of it.
