Hitman Absolution Official Thread

Eh, I figured it out. Stupid poison was not very easy to find, had to watch a video.

Try playing on Normal. People seem to agree the game is kind of screwy off of Normal.

so the game is too easy and doesn't feel like Hitman on Normal and too hard/frustrating/unbalanced on Purist?

Normal or one spot above that, at most, is probably the sweet spot for now.

The only thing to me that seems really screwy about Hard+ is that it seems like they force you to do the mission only ONE way if you want to get Silent Assassin or even a decent score. In that regard it makes it feel extremely linear.

Played a bit more, and honestly yeah, the difficulty feels broken, even at just Hard. Enemies see you far too easily and from much too far away. Plus there are so many goddamn guys it's near impossible to keep track of them all at times. Might have to switch to Normal, as I've wasted way too much time on the same sneaking missions and I want to progress in the game. I guess you can always come back and do the missions again to get better scores.

Exactly. Use normal.

Normal, so far, has been challenging enough for a first playthrough. I still have to re-do parts a few times to get the best possible score.

Surprised no conversations about this game in last 2 days, hopefully people are playing!

I'm on the Library mission ATM, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. About to get some more playtime in now, as I'm not doing SHIT today after the friggin' black friday shopping this morning. Exhausted...

OMG, I must suck at this game or something. But I'm at the library and I cannot for the life of me pass this mission.

I changed the difficulty to easy, but still can't complete this part.

I change to a disquise, but they detect me anyways.

I made to the far end where the checkpoint is. But there is a shitload of cops, and I have to make it up the stairs.

I must have tried about 10 times last night. It shouldn't be this goddam hard. WTF? Any tips for me please?

I basically said the hell with points. Headshots, stealth, more headshots. If I have to kill everyone then so be it.

Otherwise if you're going to be stealthy, when the level starts and you're up at that top area climbing down, make your way to the left, subdue that cop, take his disguise, shove him in the box. Carefully make your way to that power surge protector this guy uses to flip the lights on. You don't want those lights on. Take that guy out if you need to but sabotage those lights. That should be your top priority.

No lights = worlds easier. Stealth, sneak, watch paths, use disguise, and you'll make it.

I've gotten to the point with this game where I've just said the hell with it and if I have to rack up negative points then so be it. I'm going to get the job done.

what's the point of playing a 'Hitman' game like a FPS

Because Hitmen kill people. You shouldn't be getting penalized for even subduing someone non lethally. I could see being penalized for killing a non target that isn't some thug. I get that. After that it gets kind of silly. In the previous Hitman games people can do whatever the hell they want. In this game you can't.

You can't do anything in this game without being penalized. Kind of annoying.

Ok thanks for the help! I appreciate that. I will try this tonight. I'll just head shot all the cops, fuck it. I just want to get the hell out of the goddam library.

Before you give in to anger and frustration... ;) ...sabotage the lights. After that stealth is a LOT easier in there.

I literally ran the whole library and I'm playing on hardest difficulty - here's the gig.. run down right right stair case from the start and then run straight through the middle and then go to the right ish. Go through the hole in the wall and then work your way up stairs past 1-2 police men. After that you should be good to go.

I'm having issues with getting on board the train to be honest. I get all the way over to the train and the cops block it.. is there an option to jump on the back of it or go near the very back and take off? or what do I do from here?

I still can't for the life of me understand how people are bashing this game to the extent that they are...this game is the SHIT!!!

I think it's an awfully good game overall that has some needless limitations and quirks to it that simply didn't need to be there and hurt the game. This game is being needlessly held back.

Having some quibbles and a few complaints is a long ways from bashing.

Any Hitman series vet knows what I'm talking about but to save myself retyping stuff that probably won't get read and understood anyways, here goes:

I just passed barbershop last night. On hard. After those avoiding cops missions, the game actually does get batter, and starts to feel like the old hitman games again.

Oh, I understand how some may feel slighted, especially if you were expecting the exact same mechanics/gameplay as previous Hitman titles. I'm speaking purely from the standpoint of someone who has never even paid attention to the series. As a stand alone title this game is rocking my fucking socks.

Oh yeah, it's a damned good game don't get me wrong. I just blew two hours on it right now. ;)

So far the game is decent, but I wish it was less like a movie and more about big individual missions like the precessors and all about the gameplay and cutting the silly mainstream story bull.

Feels like a console game complete with rather low FoV and console HUD. On the upside it runs pretty well so I could cope with this. MUCH prefered the style of any of the other games though. The interface reminds you of call of duty. Might seem like a minor thing to some but I really think it sucks. Also there seems to be some mouse accel going on which makes shooting less enjoyable.

Who thought sharing the subdue key with the fight action was a good idea? Esc -> reload last checkpoint... again....

A hitman game need the good old save/load game system with quicksave/loading.

Sometimes you could turn around and show your back to a subject and that will reset his level of attention to you. Thats.. cheap. Stupid.

The dialogue... yeah it's just bad. In the bad way. Its not funny or clever, its stupid and unnecessarily retarded. Nobody acts like the guys in this game acts. Ive felt this way in many games. I still fail to understand this trend. Why is everybody "mildly" retarded?

Sigh. Hope the game shapes up towards the end and that contracts will make up for these impressions. Right now im a bit disappointed.

Loved Hitman, liked Hitman 2, despised Contracts, LOVED Blood Money. I'm on the fence about absolution. It feels very linear and constricted to me. There are just some mechanics that make no sense to me, and the point system doesn't work for me. I'm also not really sure why 47 would be working for the agency again, and take out Dianna. Its kind of like the black soul stone in d3 undoing d2's plot. I also really dislike the settings. Cougars? Rednecks? 50's vehicles? Saint assassin team? It's just very cliche and unoriginal.

The only reason i'm playing through it is to reach the end. I'm hoping somewhere I'll have a moment of "HOLY SHIT THATS AWESOME!" like at the end of Blood Money. That ending was nuts! So far i'm just overwhelmed with meh, and I think its because I'm a Hitman vet and not use to the handcuffs i'm forced to wear now. I do give them props for lots of environmental ways to kill people.

Well since I never played any Himan games before, and you guys are saying they are pretty good. I just placed an order for Hitman Bloodmoney. I'll play it after I finish absolution.

How come?

You'll love it. You'll lose some of the graphical fidelity of this new game but you'll gain in just about every other area especially overall freedom. It's not perfect...nothing is...but it's one of my favorite games and a classic.

Well, played for a few days and its decent, but not great. You are basically not allowed to kill anyone except mission targets. I am getting a little tired of being "spotted". Cops are everywhere and they got eyes in their asses.

I've decided to kill anyone who stands in my way and not waste time about losing points.

How come?

Love the first one because I had never played a game like it before. They story was pretty good, the difficulty was unforgiving but possible. Missions were pretty much open and you could go anywhere and kill from anywhere. Certain weapons can't be concealed so you had to game plan what weapons you wanted to use during a particular mission, and how you would use them given you just can't walk around the street with a sniper rifle. You had legitimate choices on how, and where you wanted to kill targets. Where Codename 47 was good, Silent Assassin was better, I just didn't like the story as much. Missions were even larger, and the settings were grander. They didn't reinvent the game in Silent Assassin, just gave players more of what they wanted.

Contracts is where they took a step back for me. It was like buying a Lincoln Park album after their first two. Pretty much all the missions were rehashes of the first two games. I thought the plot could of been solid, but it really belonged in a cut scene or intro video, and they should of developed more of the story. At the end though you do find out that someone is after you, and sets you up for Blood Money.

Blood Money was so awesome because it improved on the mechanics once again. Melee combat was better. You could kill people from range with melee weapons. The notoriety system was a nice touch, but not something the player was required to fulfill unlike the current unlock system. The new missions were all unique and memorable. The story was top notch in my opinion as well.

Finally got a chance to play a lot more today and I am enjoying the game so far. Even on Normal there are some frustrating parts where guys will magically see you really fast, but overall it feels pretty good difficulty-wise.

I still feel like to get the Silent Assassin rating you have to do the missions in a very specific, linear way, which is a bit annoying.

Well if you're not happy about Absolution, maybe a change is a good thing? :p

Though it apparently won't be like the classic ones, either.

I'd have been happy if the game didn't crash on me after the first 5 minutes with a silly ass directX error.

Already running the latest official AMD drivers - Win8/7970 here.

I believe i've found a fix already - but I'm at work all weekend so blah. It's nice to see Hitman back in action, I haven't gotten past the first few checkpoints in the game. Should get some good seat time sunday night.

Okay the thing is you need to have a bit of patience with this game and give it a good chance when you have some time off to dedicate to it. It gets better and better. I think this is a combination of progressively getting to know how to play the game properly, and that the later levels seem to be bigger and have more freedom. You're going through a lot of different environments too which I'm a big fan of. The story is shaping up to be a pretty good adventure. I'm having the same kind of fun as I had when I first played Half-Life or Golden Eye. Great atmosphere! I have no technical issues on my system (sig).

I recommend one plays through on Normal, don't rush it, try to get silent assassin or at least go through levels unspotted. When I'm done I'll play purist and kill everybody for some good action. And then there's Contracts.

So far I'd rate the game something like 89/100. Having fun now.

For those who aren't happy about Hitman: Absolution's new direction, your week just got a bit worse:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/11/the-next-hitman-game-wont-be-like-other-hitman-games/

Doesn't surprise me.

In a weird way, though, that might be good news. Fresh blood. Fresh ideas. We'll see. I've lost a bit of confidence in IO post Blood Money. Like I said earlier, let's face it: They haven't made a good game since Blood Money if we're honest about it.

Absolution is a good game pound for pound, though. Certainly considerably better than the K&L games.

Hopefully in the next game they'll restore some of the freedom and remove some of the needless handcuffing that this game is currently laddled with. I'm cautiously optimistic reading that story.

no way is this game worth $49.99...Steam Holiday Sale half price or lower improves the price/performance/quality ratio

Do you have the game yourself?

GMG is running a hell of a sale right now.

don't own the game but I get a good enough feel of the gameplay...a lot of games probably are not worth full price so it's not really about Hitman...either way I think they took a lot of the nostalgic Hitman out of the game and made it more mainstream to appeal to the new generation of gamers who never played the earlier games (8 years is a long time between games)...Purist seems too frustrating...Normal seems too bland...there's no real perfect middle ground

it's like they tried to make Hitman more like Deus Ex: Human Revolution where stealth is encouraged but they forgot to tweak it to make it work in a different game setting...too many quality games being released in a short time frame competing for people's time...people will be more picky because of this...AC3 released on same day as Hitman...AC3 is the clear winner in my opinion...FC3 coming out next week...no point in paying $49.99 when better games are out...it's best to wait for Steam sales on games like Hitman
