Hitman: Absolution E3 cinematic trailer

Hmm that's a pretty far out reason to lose all hope for the game.

Here's why I'm so down on it.

1.) It's a terrible creative decision, especially concerning Kyd. To that me that's an appalling creative decision that's indefensible.

2.) This was done in a very douchebaggery manner at least according to the information we have here. Not professional.

3.) The last game I played from IO was a POS called Kane and Lynch 2. When was the last good game these guys made? Hitman Blood Money from 06?

I really just don't have much reason to have a whole lot of confidence in IO and especially their creative decision making right now.

I will give Kane and Lynch 2 props for one thing: Excellent looking art design in some levels.

47's previous voice actor was OK

That in and of itself isn't the end of the world although that's a character trademark. 47 never talks much but when he does it's distinct and it's always been the same person.

Why change it if it works?

Here's some of the audio work including the new voice. It's not bad. I don't hate it but how many of these games do we have to have this same kind of voice? It's kind of a cliche.

and Kyd's an awesome musician but that doesn't mean IO haven't taken a direction that's equally as good or maybe better.

Jeremy Soule and Jesper Kyd are the best game composers as far as I'm concerned. You're not going to find someone better than either of them.

There's a lot of good and even great ones out there, don't get me wrong but there's no one out there better than they are.

I'm someone who believes music is very important to any kind of media like this whether it be movies or games. Music is like another character. Kyd's music IS the heart, soul, and glue of the Hitman series and it can't be "replaced."

I can put up a small wishlist of composers I put up for this game that might get the right sound and feel: Dan Wentz (love this guy's work), Jack Wall maybe, Jason Graves, or maybe Daft Punk coming off of Tron Legacy. I'm not a big fan of his but if you want just glorified ambient noise that can be effectivee in game you could bring Amin Tobin who's been a part of the last two Splinter Cell games.

I start getting into murky territory after that quickly if I'm thinking about composers out there that could come up with something that fits Hitman.

In reality, it's a step down any way you cut it because Jesper Kyd's music is an integral character to the Hitman series. It's like John Williams on Star Wars.

I just think this a flat out terrible creative decision and a senseless one. You can't replace a Jesper Kyd. It's that simple.

IO has released 4 solid Hitman games and I don't see why they wont do great this time around as well. Cheer up :)

I hope you're right but this really put some dark storm clouds in the air for me.

Vin Diesel is the new voice actor.

In all seriousness though, unless they plan on bringing in a big name from Hollywood for a lot of money for the buzz factor, I don't understand this decision.

Is there any indication this game might be doing a reboot or soft reboot? I believe I remember the original stated reason for the long delay before starting development was that IO felt the franchise was getting stale and needed a break.

Q-BZ, I think Alexander Brandon is quite talented as well.

Why I'll miss Mr. Kyd:

Hard to tell. There's some situations that are happening in those trailers and other tidbits that I've read around that suggested to me that this was a sequel to Blood Money.

Vin Diesel as the voice of 47 actually ain't a half bad idea if it were done right. ;)

Composer Alexander Brandon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Brandon#Discography

Except for the Deus Ex Games and Thief: Deadly Shadows I'm not very familiar personally with the rest of that. I'm sure he's talented.

I'm looking at that and I'm simply not feeling the "yeah, we'll dump Jesper and go in this direction" decision, though. Not getting it.

With all due respect, though, he's no Jesper Kyd. I'm not trying to knock anyone else. I'm just making the broad point of: Jesper Kyd is to Hitman as John Williams is to Star Wars. :)

Personally, I rarely could get Silent Assassin without reading the online guides. I wouldn't mind a bit more action oriented gameplay.

Have you played Contracts and Blood Money?

450: That music speaks for itself. Good luck to "replacing" that, IO.

I've played Hit Man 2: Silent Assassin and up. I don't want them to ruin the stealth elements, but a bit more action isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Agreed, if there's balance.

The last thing I want to see is run and gun in a Hitman game.

Personally I like playing both ways. Sometimes I play by just shooting everything and other times I make sure to get Silent Assassin. Variety. :)

The music makes replays worth it.

Yes but if you just start shooting in these games there are serious consequences to be had. I like that. ;)

Sure does.

One of the issues with Blood Money's design was the reward system in my opinion. In order to get the maximum rewards you had to do every mission the silent assassin way, which is either a rather rigid type approach or really exploiting game mechanics (for instance in the river boat level I knocked everyone out and than tossed them over the railing to count them as "accident kills" lol...). But you can't use (other than a very few) any of items and upgrades you buy to get SA ratings.

The one thing I don't like about the SA rating introduction is how it removes a lot of the on spot creativity in tackling missions if you go for SA, since you basically can't kill anyone but your target and are limited to how you kill them. Despite them adding so many more ways to actually carry out missions as well.

I remember the rumor a few years ago about Vin Diesel actually starring the Hitman movie, since apparently he is a Hitman fan and a gamer (judging by Chronicles of Riddick).

On another note, since I just remembered, 47 was actually modeled based on how Bateson looks.

Very true criticisms.

It never stopped me from doing what I wanted anyways. :D

It was on replays that I started trying hard to get closer to SA but I'd like to see it where the awards and incentives are less rigid. Good point.

^^ He was always my first choice for a Hitman movie and I think a lot of others felt that way. ;)
