Hitman: Absolution E3 cinematic trailer

So much more badass than Sam Fisher xD

But Sam would probably win 1v1

Love the business suit

Hopefully we'll see gameplay video soon!

I hope we get some Thief info as well.

Just hoping the next game doesn't favor rewarding complete stealth too much. If you look at the 47 "lore" wise, he is usually shown as not being against killing and "silencing" others to get to his target. But the games have more and more been focused on rewarding the approach where you literally kill no one else, or abusing the "accident" mechanic lol... I know I'd hold people hostage or knock them out and then throw them over railings to cause accidents haha...

You'd like a bit more freedom to exterminate human obstacles?

The reward system in the last few favors "silent assassin" which usually allows you to only kill your targets, and shoot something like 1 bullet. Or in Blood Money, cause as many accidents as you want. I'm hoping the reward system makes it less penalizing to say silently kill all the guards. For instance in Hitman 1, you could really kill as many people as you wanted, as long as you did it silently, without penalty from what I remember.

Same video, but perfect HD quality.

So excited for this game. Pissed that it isnt getting much coverage (so far). From what iv read though, it is kinda a secret favorite of E3 by some gamers i follow on twitter. Supposedly the engine is brand new for the game so the graphics are VERY good, and the gameplay is really enhanced. Lots of new ways to do everything. It will be different but i read he has powers kinda, like eagle vision in Assassins creed, he has a viewing mode so you can see enemies through walls and etc, the idea is you are getting to use his experience and knowledge and see more than just what you normally see. So enemies and all your options (like something you can use to kill someone) glow. Its called "Instinct mode" Cant wait for more info and gameplay vids! Total pre-order for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omXCRkRE0kQ

And to those saying it was anti climatic that he didnt kill the woman, how i interrupted it was that she was being held by the security against her will. Considering he didnt shoot and she said "47", makes me think maybe he was rescuing her? That she knows him? The gun being held implies he was going to shoot but idk.

Hmm, not sure what to think of those "powers". If they use it minimally it might work well. Like using X-Ray vision ala Batman in Arkham Asylum, but like once per mission. But I'd prefer they keep it out honestly, because if not I can definitely see it going the route of Splinter Cell or something.

Next they'll give him Bionic Man's hook, or make him into a transformer

Too much fighting, too little sneaking. I hope "silent assassin" will still be possible, and will be extremely hard to achieve on higher difficulty levels ;)

I wet myself. Hope they don't go too far with any "special abilities."

I'm thinking the game story will involve 47 being hired to kill a target which turns out to be Diana. The woman I think is implied to be Diana, 47s handler in the previous games for those that don't know.

I've always felt he should have some sort of special abilities (other then extreme durability lol...), being a genetic engineered killer and all that. Of course superhero super powers over the top would be ridiculous.

Watch the second vid guys, in the interview the Hitman dev says you can not turn on the abilities the whole time you play the whole game. Turn them on at all, (sounds like Batman AA, use Batvision as much or little as you want) except with the Hitman game it wont be a requirement like it was in some parts of AA.

Personally i love it, i will try not to use it, but to be honest blood money was so hard sometimes you had to use a walkthrough anyways. So instead of having you look up when/how you poison the cake online, they have a way for you to turn on 47's experienced instincts and see visually what he would know in his head.
Btw i think from what iv heard (even in that interview) it definitively sounds like there will be tons of silent assassinations/sneaking. They are really only showing off all the amazing fighting because that hasnt been in any Hitman game before. Its just a option, go silent, or you can pick up a vase throw it at a guards face, and then Krav maga him to death. No different than m16'ing the whole white house...yes its possible, but does anyone beat the level seriously that way? no. Its just a option that will be available to us.

Completely agree, thats what i always felt too. Not really abilities, but a way to see what he'd know. As a trained from 5 years old pro, he would know things we cant just from seeing him in 3rd person. So options glowing and routes glowing and enemies glowing is a way for us to see what he would instinctively know, so i love it.

Yeah i considered that, but she is voiced by Marsha Thompson so i assumed they would use her face (some form of mocap) or something with her voice, and she is black, the girl in the shower looked like a strawberry haired white woman. Its possible though, would make sense story wise.

Which makes sense. Ultimately I see them rejoining forces

Fair point but less is more. I really hope they're conservative with this concept.

I can live with that.

THIS I like. As long as it doesn't blatantly hold your hand for you and items don't glow or any BS like that then that's fine.

I hope it's an option not taken too far because in the previous Hitman games...think about the end of Contracts where you're stuck in that apartment with SWAT teams all over the place...running and gunning is the last thing you can do and the last thing Hitman games should ever be about.

Yeah, i agree if things glow a crazy neon green or something it can ruin the game. Less is definitely more when it comes to a game like this. Hints, nudges, clues, not blatant glowing fluorescent strobing neon green lol.
I dont know, i agree that perfectly sneaky is 90% of the time what the mission calls for, but i look at it kind of like in the movie, SOMEtimes he gets caught or in trouble, and the only way out for anyone would to shoot your way out. Sometimes assassinations go sideways and you need to whip out the M7 and shoot some SWAT cops. It should be very rare though, like once a game. More than that and it becomes hard to believe that hes underground enough to not be known.

Ah, my beloved suppressed, extended clipped, and laser scoped Silverballers. Soon, you and I shall be reunited.

I can't wait! Hopefully it's going to be at least as good as Blood Money. Good days of gaming ahead.

pretty sure that part of the game will dissapear for good at this point, along with the souls they sold to the casual gaming gods. I'm fully prepared to watch them rape 47 hard, with no lube whatsoever.

and this is the worst part of it. the best hitman was slow and methodical, leaving no evidence and arranging the perfect accidents. the point was killing as few people as possible, that's the whole reasoning behind the notoriety mechanic. this meant that sure you could run and gun all you want, with the consequence of it becoming harder and harder to make use of any disguise, or having to constantly pay people off to bring down the heat.

otherwise all you had to do was stand still for a moment to observe the environment, and plan through some patrol patterns. but this generation of gamers don't have the capacity for that, it's run in gunz a blazing, or failing that just give up and follow a walkthrough. I think they choose to highlight this in the promo, because it's what they're going to focus on. just take a look at the interview:

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/06/hitman.ars

action sequences. solving puzzles. linear levels.

the only positive aspect I can see about this is the "instinct mode", which could have been an improvement over flipping back and forth from the floor plan, if they had any intention of sticking to classic gameplay. but when they have to point out a particular section of 1 map, and "wow multiple paths!" just to assure you that there will be some sort of open level, that's it. RIP 47 it was nice knowing you, I guess he really shouldn't have survived his funeral.

Loved #2, I would play that game for hours silently killing everyone. Looking forward to this one!

i loved the Hitman series, i cant wait for this one. I really hope they let you achieve the silent assassin notoriety!

I love the Hitman series, though not every one was "up to par", but still, it's been a fantastic IP, and from everything I've read and seen of "Absolution", I'm completely psyched about it!

Looks like they're doing seriously great things with it... cant friggin' wait!

I share all of your concerns but I think we're still a bit early out enough that it's too soon to throw in the towel. :)

I love the Hitman series, but I found the trailer to be a bit worrying. I wanted it to focus on stealth killing. Anyway, I'll just have to wait!

As far as i was concerned there was no right way to play it, it was a game that really defined the stealth genre, at the same time it could be a fantastic action game. One of the few PC games worth really playing.

But whats going to grab more attention? A video of a bald guy hiding for 5 minutes then stealth garrotting someone or all that action and krav maga and suppressed sidearm? I bet it was for the sake of grabbing attention, not a action representation of gameplay. Though of course in Hitman you could always go that direction (auto fire, run and gun), but it is a stealth game. Im not worried. They HAVE to appeal to a wider market nowadays so they cant show the slow, quiet, poison syringe in the cake style trailer, it has to be a jason bourne style fight to catch the attention of the 10 million COD players for some of them to want it and buy it.

It's completely dumbed down for retarded console players that feel insulted when challenged by a video game.

The game or the trailer? Id say if consoles never existed and there were only PC's games like ME, Splinter Cell Conviction would still try to appeal to a wider market by adding in dashes of different types of gameplay. Its not really because of consoles, its because the types of games/gameplay hits such a niche market that they cant make good money. Obviously there are excepts to the rule like Starcraft 2 which has a huge fanbase and millions play it.

You add action adventure, or a faster pace etc to just about anything and it becomes more fun and more appealing to a wider market. Now do i want that in all my games? No. But when done right, it can take a game that felt slow sometimes boring and had weird controls (Splinter Cell) and make it into a fun to play, exciting version of itself. Would Hitman rock still if it was JUST like bloodmoney but 2012 graphics? Totally, but will improved/more fluid controls, more options, more abilities etc but a added bonus? Yes.

In terms of "fluff" it has always shown in the movie/scripted sequences that 47 does not actually follow the "silent assassin" method. The "silent assassin" concept wasn't even in Hitman 1, you could kill as many people as you wanted for instance to reach your objectives. It was first in Hitman 2 as a hidden bonus objective, and you could get 3 extra guns for getting a certain amount of them.

Making the game not follow the "silent assassin" concept I actually think is better. In order to get "silent assassin" ratings your approach usually had to be very rigid as opposed to open, since you couldn't kill anyone else except your targets for instance.

Exactly.

There's just not much we're going to glean this far out from one trailer. And someone made a good point: For a trailer you're going to show off a lot of flash and quick action.

In these games you can do that to a point...at your own peril. ;)

Eager to learn more about this game. :)

My hopes for this game are outright dead or close to it.

Hmm that's a pretty far out reason to lose all hope for the game. 47's previous voice actor was OK and Kyd's an awesome musician but that doesn't mean IO haven't taken a direction that's equally as good or maybe better. IO has released 4 solid Hitman games and I don't see why they wont do great this time around as well. Cheer up :)
