Here I come...i7 style!

nice.. i want to see 8 projects at one time in action on that thing.. screenshots damnit! with temps :p

Absolutely! :)

But I must download and install my graphics drivers and a couple other things as well as a tool to measure the temps with...what software works best?

By the way, it's on the stock cooler but at stock settings so it should have no issues running 24/7 considering how ventilated the box itself is.

realtemp..

yeah i wonder how close the temps will get with 8 threads full load from WCG compared to say running prime95 or intel burn test.. atleast on my systems the temps with WCG are only 1-2 C lower then the temps running IBT or prime95..

Thanks, been quite a WHILE since I've had a desktop, so yeah. :p

arg i hate you :p takes me 4 1/2+ hours on one of those with my x2 6400+

Something's weird. It'll gain progress, then the percentage will fall back, and then repeat.

hmm sounds like its failing.. or its just predicting it incorrectly.. might be a bad project..

is it doing it on all of them?

Make sure you disable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS or the OS will slow your cores down... and disable the screen savers and disable sleep/hibernation and power always on - type things...

it only slows the cores down when idle ironbits.. unless intel ghetto'fied it again..

I need some more memory, then my Core i7 could handle 8 cores easily.

Code:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

I'm looking into it, but the project or BOINC may not agree with HyperThreading.

Sorry, but SpeedStep is on for a reason.

I turned off Turbo Mode and the ongoing statistics are more consistent now. Still testing, though.

That reason is a moot point if you are DC'ing. ;) You might want to disable it just for testing purposes, even if you turn it back on later.

When I first started folding with my i7, I had terrible folding performance with SpeedStep enabled. After turning it off, things started working perfectly. Right now, the only CPU options enabled on mine is HT and Thermal Monitor. I was doing ~9200 PpD with FAH until I decided to take a break and work on some Lattice WUs.

I currently have it enabled and the clock doesn't drop below 2.67GHz while under full load. In addition, I'd really prefer the CPU to have the ability to downclock itself if the heat became intolerable. Crunching would be moot with a damaged CPU.

unless your fan completely fails the cpu wont throttle til you hit 100C unless you have the temp controls set on the bios to do it automatically at a lower temp.. all speedstep does is control the heat/power usage when idle.. no sense in having a cpu running at 2.67ghz per core when the systems doing absolutely nothing..

In addition, I'd really prefer the CPU to have the ability to downclock itself if the heat became intolerable.
For the record, that happens even if Speedstep is off (the CPU's thermal protection features are always active, no matter what). I do think that Speedstep should be left on though.
