I am running a Gigabyte DQ6 with a E6000 watercooled with XMS2-6400 (4-4-4-12) memory. The vcore was left at default and the fsb bumped to 333 I am running at 3ghz but would like some help i know this system posts at 400x9 = 3.6 but crashs due to me not having the proper settings in bios...

Yep what chipset DQ6 , cpu is a typo I guess ?

Usually raising the MCH voltage +.1 and raising the FSB voltage some will do the trick and it is time to raise Vcore but we need full details of the cpu motherboard and ram. You have acheived the "easy" OC but from here on do not expect (sometimes one gets lucky) to just bang in a few setting changes and and have it do what you want. Every cpu, every motherboard, every ram stick, is unique and must work together as a system and it only takes one weak part, or one unoptimized setting to prevent higher OCing.




So, give us a proper cpu part number, include the default Vid (cpu-z will report it), exact motherboard model, and exact ram part number (links to newegg are great) and we can really help you out.

This is not bad to look through for a basic understaning of most of your bios settings and some general recommendations, little dated but I wrote it for my P965-DQ6 and most of it still applies.

I have a e6600 with a a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 (revision 1) running Corsair TwinX-6400c4
The ram is rated at 2.1v with timings of 4-4-4-12, the cpu stock vcore is 1.325 (bios @1.45v) and the motherboard was left alone.. I have not adjusted the MCH or FSB volts. I know that running stock vcore i can do 333x9 for 3.33 speed but it is not stable.. I need to know how or what i need to do to get the overclock higher (it is currently stable @ 400x8 for 3.2) while lowering the heat generated.. I am at about 37-42 idle stock vcore 40-45 idle with a vcore of 1.45 and with loads its at about 50c stock vcore 55-60 @ 1.45 HELP!!!

Raise the FSB voltage to the 1st increment available

Start off at 350x9 - make sure your memory multiplier is set to 2.0 - this will underclock your memory for the moment.

Memory Performance Enhance to "Normal"

Boot into a memtest86+ CD so you dont trash your windows install. Only necessary to run the first few tests.

Bump up the FSB 10MHz at a time and see where you get. On the first failure increase the MCH to the next higher increment and see if that helps.

The thread I referenced above is all about gigabyte P965 overclocking with tons of information I really dont know what more I can add here. Really keep an eye on the memory mulitplier, on a failed OCing attempt when the computer does the reboot cycle and resets (disables manual FSB settings) it likes to reset the memory mulitplier to Auto which sometimes results in very OCed memory speeds which causes the next attempt to fail if you do not set it to something sane.

I dont want to fry my only mobo how much play do I have while increasing the MCH/FSB and keeping it safe? The board stays very cold with its heatpipe setup but I cant afford to replace the mobo. I am going to stress the cpu as much as I can because at the end of its life I have a Quad Core coming to replace it. What do you mean by boot with memtest so I dont trash the install??? Also I have watercooling so I should be able to reach a higher O.c but I dont know about the voltages I put it to 1.45 in bios but windows shows 1.408 screenshot of orthos running for 10 hours attached
