Help with finding hardware for new rig

I just finished bootcamp for the Navy and after two years away from WoW i'm thinking of picking the game back up. The problem is the laptop I have is a piece of crap and I really want to build myself a new computer rig. My current desktop is miles away and I can't get it shipped or go back home to pick it up because the military is strict. So, I need to build a new one anyway after five years with my current desktop.
The dilemma is that I can't put together a system for less than 1200 dollars right now. I need EVERYTHING. From an OS to a CPU to a graphics card and monitor. Is there a cheaper way to get all the parts for a completely new system and not spend half a month's paycheck?
Btw i'm an nVidia and Intel guy, and the computer would mainly be to play WoW and stay at 60 fps while raiding with 25 other guys.
The current rig I have assembled on newegg.com has an i5 processor, a gigabyte motherboard, asus 24" monitor, windows 7 home, 4bg of Ram DDR3, regular disc drive, standard power supply, average case and a 750gb hard drive. Just wanted to get some help because I can't get the price down.

Just a few more questions answered and we can start recommending parts for you:
2) What's your MAX budget? Are tax and shipping included?
3) Where do you live?
6) Will you be overclocking?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.

2. my max budget is not to eclipse more than 1k if i can, yet i understand if i have to.
3. I live in Virginia so everything i buy from newegg.com will be tax free.
6. I will not be overclocking. There's no need for what I want to use the computer for
8. I want to build/buy the PC in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
9. I don't need many features at all. Just PCI express to house a very capable graphics card.

My main needs are a very good monitor with plenty of room. I need an OS. I still use XP on my old system because it runs good enough and it isn't a broken OS. I won't need a huge hard drive simply because I can always buy a new one later. I just want to be able to play video games with good fps. SLI is not important as well because I have 0 desire to have 2 graphics cards in my build. But outside of graphics, i want everything else to be on my motherboard. The less hardware to buy the better.

A quick prelim build:
$285 - Intel Core i5 750 CPU + Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 ATX Motherboard Combo
$62 - G.Skill F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$180 - Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB PCI-E Video Card
$150 - Corsair 650TX 650W PSU + Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Combo
$17 - LG iHAS124-04 DVD Burner
$160 - Cooler Master CM690 II Basic ATX Case + Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM Combo
$160 - Acer G235HAbd Black 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor
---------
Total: $1014 plus shipping

Note that those combo deals end on October 31st. That Samsung 1TB drive will be significantly faster than any 750GB drive out there.

That build is somewhat similar to what I have on newegg.com. It seems to get the hardware I want I'm going to have to shell out some money. But that build has a pretty good deal with the case and OS. I wish I hadn't messed up my credit so I didn't have to pay it all immediately and instead four to six months.

do you think that case will handle the 5850 card that is 10 1/2" long?

Yup.

Don't get the HD 5850 unless it's cheaper than the HD 6870. If it isn't, the HD 5850 isn't worth the costs

Their about the same price apparently. Get the 6xxx line, definitely more worth it.

Yup, exactly why I think the HD 5850 is a bad buy considering that the faster HD 6870 is the same price. Though, like I said earlier, if the HD 5850 is cheaper than the HD 6870 at some point, then it's a good buy.

is WoW the primary game you plan to play? if so i would look hard at an AM3 MB/CPU. you would save almost $200. if you go with Radeon HD 4850 you can save another $50.

if your just going to play WoW that would save you some money. if not i like that system above.

oh i forgot. a buddy i play WoW with said he bought a laptop at best buys for $700 that plays WoW perfectly. thats all he does is play WoW. next time i talk to him i will find out what exactly he has. he did say he got it on sale

Your fogetting that laptops are more expensive than desktops for similar performance, and in general dont last as long. Plus are un-upgradable outside of ram.

my main intention is to play WoW. I don't play video games on laptops, and if I'm going to build a desktop, I have to have one that can handle other games as well. But yes my main goal at this time is to build a desktop to play WoW on and to use it for general use. When I want something tho, I usually don't settle for something cheaper for sake of performance.

Then the list I provided for you earlier should fit you just fine.
