Well I'm getting my tax refund check soon and I want a new computer, I asked a friend for alot of help and after about 1 hour of talking he reffered me here. My current computer specs are

Can someone help me make a computer that can run games like left 4 dead on lowest graphics at a solid 50 fps and cost under 600$? THank you
 
If your near a Microcenter that would be pretty easy..

you can get a nice AMD combo for 130$ (Moboard, processor, memory) and then add a nice video card for whatever you want, i'd suggest a 7850 or 7870..

most everything else you already have will work unless it happens to be a small form factor case, and a cheap (< 400W) power supply
 
Either go Intel or get a used high end AMD rig. I am using AMD but as soon as I find an 8350 it will be my last AMD as they can't challenge Intel any longer for pure performance. You will of course have to buy a new MB every time they make a new chip, or almost every time. No evergreen there.
Go for 8 meg of ram or 16 as it is cheap if not looking for massive OC. The 7850 is a great card. I just upped from a 5870 and the difference is massive, and the price is right. Unless you can throw $385.00 for an SSD keep the HD or buy a larger one if you need storage. Upgrade when the prices come down.
 
L4D is easy to run. You can get a 650 Ti right now for $90-110. It would probably max out L4D settings and still give you 60fps.

CPUs:
Get the FX-6300 combo for $120.

or

Intel i3-3220 for $100 at microcenter, H61 mATX motherboard which is free if they're still offering the motherboard $40 discount with processors in-store.

8GB of ram is around $30-40.
650Ti for $100.
160GB SSD for around $90, or 250GB SSD for around $150.
Budget case... $30. Here's a mATX case for $25 if you need it now, but you need to get one of the mATX motherboards (which is the cheapest option in the bundle anyway).
CX430 power supply.. $25.

Easily under $500, you'll have to deal with rebates but you'll live. Transplant your old hard drive and optical drive to get more storage.

If you don't have microcenter nearby, add about $50-100 to the final price.

I just did. If you have a microcenter near you, buy those parts. If not, we can look for other things.

Get the SSD and the video card now, those are going to sell out sooner than the other items.
