Good catch, thanks for mentioning that as well. If not for Atlus, we wouldn't even have Demon's Souls.

FROM Software tried to get Sony to publish it, but they passed on it, and an executive at Sony admitted that was a huge mistake on Sony's part.

So it was left to Atlus to bring it to our shores, for which I am grateful.

Yeah. I was almost ready to import it when Atlus announced a US release. I love companies like Atlus, NIS America, and XSEED.

Have you even bothered to see how they managed to make the online portion innovative and have it act as a complement to the single player experience without making it truly multiplayer in the traditonal sense of the word?

Otherwise you'd be able to answer your own question.
I wasn't talking about multiplayer, I was talking about difficulty and how you're talking about this game like it's the only difficult game ever made. Way to try and duck the topic.

Plus, my roommate just kept seeing troll grafitti everywhere, and shades of other players fighting the bosses. Big whoop. And wouldn't the invasion of another player component require a constant internet connection? Yet Diablo III is the game criticized for this. Better hope PSN doesn't get hacked again - with that absurdly long outage, Battle.net has a better record by a mile.

I have quite a few Atlus games, they do make excellent RPG's and they are a mini-Square.

They aren't always perfect, to be sure, but they do put a lot of effort and soul into their games.

But there's no denying that their games can be a little more hit and miss than the major publishers, but probably not by a significant enough margin.

*shrug* you have your opinion, I have mine, I view it as one of the best gaming experiences in a long while, you view it as garbage can material.

You're free to interpret Demon's Souls and by extension Dark Souls as you desire. I don't really care either way.

I'm just glad I could bring enough awareness about Dark Souls to people's attention here, now a few people will go out there and try it and see why I'm ranting and raving about it.

And you know what? That's great.

We will have a common shared experience to talk about once the game launches.

I'm a big Megaten fan, have been for a while. I feel like getting a PSP again so I can grab Persona 2.

Atlus has some big misses, but I'm glad they're willing to take a risk on small titles that would never be released here otherwise.

That would be a wise decision, sir, a very wise one indeed. May I recommend you pick up Demon's Souls as well? Atlus was going to end online support for Demon's Souls, but since Demon's Souls has such a passionate online community, they decided to extend the online support into 2012, so if you want to see what all the hubbub is all about, I recommend you pick up a copy of Demon's Souls and give it a whirl before you plunge into Dark Souls.
Thank goodness for the charity of these console companies

If this was a proper PC game, it would have server binaries and mod tools. Then there would be servers as long as there was a community, not when a greedy console company wants to make sure you move on to the next game. Isn't this exactly the criticism people made about IW.NET?

By buying this game you are making yourself a slave to their whims. I can go back and play PC games from more than 15 years ago online as long as I have an interested partner or group of people.

If you want to see how a From Software PC title ends up, try to find their horrible Ninja Gaiden rip off that is filled with QTEs. Ninja Blade or something.

It's not my interpretation, it's fact. It's a fact that this game is more limited than DOS games from 15 years ago. These limitations won't be overcome until 5-10 years from now, when we have PCs fast enough to emulate the PS3 - and even then only with copious amounts of hacking. So enjoy your multiplayer for another year (if they even keep that promise), then enjoy the years of waiting. But don't worry, I'm sure there will be a new release every few years, culminating in a game called Darker than Black Souls of Hellspawn, with even more items.

It's a fact that this game is limited graphically more than even crappy console ports like "Call of Derpy". No eyefinity for you unless the PC can come to the rescue years from now. Not even a resolution change. Laughable.

It's a fact that this game was hampered by the design decisions that the developers had to make to ensure this game would fit into the memory available on the PS3. PC exclusives don't have this problem. The more you buy console games, the more you encourage more games with the same limitations.

I could go on and on but it's clear my arguments are falling on deaf ears. Go play your console game with all the Madden and CoD and Halo kiddies out there. Pretend you're superior to them if it helps you sleep better at night. Nothing will change until people like you aren't allowed to choose for yourselves what games to buy. Once that happens, and people with good taste make up the market, there will be a massive die-off of these shovelware console-centric developers that can't hack it. Then it will be a return to the glory days, when the boundaries of the technology were pushed with every single release.

If the PC was their only market, they would have gone under long ago. Fortunately for them, console gamers have lower standards.

The old Armored Core games were excellent arcade mech games. Chromehounds was absolutely amazing. Demon's Souls was challenging, but it wasn't a cheap challenge like most games (now and in the past)/

Oh my God...loved the hell out of the first two AC games. Had no end of enjoyment making new mechs and customising them. It was interesting how even though the gameplay was fairly arcadey, the game slugged your in-game money for all the ammo and energy you used, as well as repairs. It felt arcadey and sim-ish at the same time.

I haven't played Demon's Souls yet...it's one of the only factors making me consider finally buying a PS3, since I find the Uncharteds to be over-cutscened crap, and don't think GOW3 or KIllzone are enough to make the jump.

It's a pity that the AC series took a huge dive with 4/For Answer.

I love the cheesy-ness of the Uncharted games, but I'm a fan of that type of story in general so that helps.

I loved the original Armored Core, I must have dumped a lifetimes worth of hours into it. I even went through a phase where I went by the handle of Hustler One. I agree though, I never played another Armored Core because they did not stack up to the original. I have followed a similiar thought process to this day that causes me to reject garbage like every Call of Derpy post CoD4.

I am ashamed to admit I have never played a Kings Field game. My best friend is a hardcore retrogamer, perhaps he can correct that travesty for me.

Dark Souls is the epitome of pick up and play. Put disc in console, grab controller, relax on couch. How much more casual can you get
took me all of two weeks to beat demon's souls playing every day when i got home from work. (first play through as well) so yeah I agree with you.

I would advise against it. I wasn't kidding when I said Demon's Souls was the first good RPG From Software made.

That's kind of crazy, given they are mostly known for King's Field.

Having eaten my midnight meal, it's time to return to the bleak existence of Demon's Souls, and bring down the False King.

Maybe I'll give the original another shot at some point, but when I played it years ago I hated it.

False King Alliant made me his bitch, he owned me hard tonight, just getting to him was tough untill I figured it out, that red phantom was a bitch to kill.

I think I need Turpentine and maybe the weapon enchant or a protect spell. He cuts me down like I'm not shit.

This is him, what a bastard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn3st_j21I4

OP is a Steam fanboy railing against always on DRM and programs that do exactly what Steam does. What an amazing time we live in.

King's Field was the droopy eyed lame cousin of the Ultima Underworld except it wasn't anywhere as good. No story, horrible sluggish controls, bad graphics, etc. The control would be better now on a console due to dual analog nubby sticks but gah was it sluggish.

Unfortunately game companies most likely do not view this forum, or they'd reach out to me and ask for my personal approval of their projects, and I could be the adjudicator of good taste in gaming, which I have in spades.

And therein is the reason why your OP is troll bait. I have read our comments in this thread and many others and have come to the conclusion that you truly have a God Complex:

"A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility. A person with a god complex may refuse to admit the possibility of error or failure, even in the face of complex or intractable problems or difficult or impossible tasks, or may regard personal opinions as unquestionably correct. The individual may disregard the rules of society and require special consideration or privileges."

If nothing else, your posts provide a rather interesting sense of humor, in a masochistic way.

Well, I guess if Puzzle Quest 2 is your kind of RPG, so be it.

While you'll be playing Diablo 3 with all it's stripped out features and dumbed down gameplay to suit the lowest common denominator, I'll be busy bringing my computer over to a friends house for some good old fashioned LAN play on Torchlight 2.

While you may be willing to install the Origin malware, I'll be busy scouring the Steam sales for any titles I wanted but may have missed out on.

While you might be playing a dumbed down consolized Skyrim, I'll be busy exploring the vast world of Dark Souls and it's unforgiving environments.

Yeah I like Puzzle Quest, and Demon's Souls... and I plan on getting Dark Souls... I like Peggle and PvZ as well. I just played Super Stickman Golf on my phone last night and it was a blast.

I'll also be playing games I've bought via Steam sales and perhaps one's through Origin sales. I'll probably also play BF3 if it gets good reviews. I also never fully played the previous elder scrolls games, so I'll probably pick up Skyrim as it bound to be their best one yet.

I'm a gamer and I have been since as long as I could play typing tutor and burger time on my dad's compaq green screen when I was 4 or so. I've been playing for 25 years as well being 29 myself too. I play on PC, 360, PS3 and Wii on a regular basis (though some more than others admittedly).

I also enjoyed most of the single player playthroughs of the CoD series *gasp*

I like this guy.

Weight doesn't matter. It's the height as well, but then again some people who should be fat aren't due to their metabolism.

My only interest here is bringing awareness to the fact that all customers (including those here) have a direct impact in deciding what games get released for your favorite platform, whether it be a console or PC.

When you buy consolized PC ports, you beget more consolized PC ports. When you support new IP's then more games in that IP will be produced if it sells enough.

When you support innovation in meaningful enough numbers, it leads to more innovation.

When you stifle it by buying the latest Call of Duty or Battlefield game or buying a game like Diablo 3, you're sending a message to companies that aren't as big as Blizzard or Activision that they have to do the same thing if they want to make a profitable dollar.

It's quite a simple concept really, it requires absolutely no trolling on my part to get that point across.

Fail, you do know you could just post what you did right there. That people can understand, you don't need to troll like the rest of your posts. That post right there was all you need IMO, and it doesn't come off as being a troll or douche.

I resent that remark, lol. It's the only soft drink I drink pretty much and I can't gain more than 160 (what I've weighed since high school). :p

I didn't say you had to be fat to drink it, rather that it was marketed towards said fat people.

On topic; Fail just happens to be very enthusiastic about this type of game. I'd say it's fairly tame compared to AMD vs. Nvidia debates :)

If there were people on this forum that actually discussed the type of games I really enjoy, you'd see some hyperbolic, passionate posts about them.

Which is why Torchlight 2, Grim Dawn, and Path of Exile have the exact same features as Diablo 3 for the same price? Oh, wait, they don't, and they won't.

The big, giant publishers can do what they can because they make big, giant games with big, giant budgets that sell a shit ton of copies. Torchlight 2 would not sell at $60. Diablo 3will because it is a superior experience with superior production values worthy of the entry fee.

Buying Diablo 3 won't tell Runic they have to do the same to be "profitable," it will tell them they have to do provide superior value (lowered price, better features, etc.).

I buy fun games. Granted, not at the $60 asking price much of the time, but if I want to play a game, I buy it.

it's a fucking game

That's the most concise and productive post of this thread by you, buddy.

But I ask... what do I do if I want to play Call of Duty or Diablo?

Yes I agree, with this part of your concept and it would work if the forum here was read by everyone in the market. This forum is a very very small segment of the 1.5 million sales CoD had or whatever their numbers were... even if we all agreed with your vote with your wallet mantra 100%, it wouldn't make the slightest difference.

It's akin to those stupid emails telling people to boycott Shell gasoline on a given day because the prices are too high (ok so it's not quite the same, but the numbers involved are probably similar in scale).

What I don't agree with is this is the 3rd thread now promoting Dark Souls because it's a challenge and doesn't have any DLC. I'm glad you like the game that isn't out yet - can't we just have a "Dark Souls - The Official Thread" thread? Perhaps even in the right sub-forum :p

I don't agree that buying a CoD or D3 or other triple A titles sends a message to smaller software companies or to indie devs that says "strip out <insert list of features Fail repeats in every post> so we can sell more copies"

apparently you shouldn't give in to your temptation to play a game that you will likely have lots of fun playing because it's morally bad decision. You should abstain for the greater good of gaming.

1. Buy games you like and want to play based on what it has.
2. Boycotting it if you want, it is your own choice.

Buy them, just be aware of what features and limitations will likely spill over into future games targeted at a similar demographic, even if that's not really what you want.

I'm not getting a new AAA harcore blob crawler ever again in my life because I was part of the group that bought Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect.
