I'm getting a bit worried about the heat on my 1090T, its got the stock HSF on it and it seems to be struggling to cool the chip properly. CPUID is reporting a core temp of 51c - this could be true or my chip could have wonky sensors so it could be 58. I don't want splurge money on this as i have a stock HSF from a FX-62, would this cool the chip better than the standard x6 cooler? Its taller, wider and has a bigger fan that runs at the same speeds.

OC is only the multiplier increased by one - all voltages are at stock - running A3 winsmp
 
Well, I don't own a 1090T, but since it's the same thing as my 1055T but with the unlocked multiplier I'll take a shot...

The temps are def high, as I was seeing load temps that high with my X6 @ 4.3Ghz(using turbo) with voltage @ 1.5V..This was with a TT120 and high speed 120mm fan...

I doubt the FX62 cooler is going to do a much better job...You can pick up a decent HSF for under $30, and take that chip to 3.6-3.9Ghz easily..

 
Your best bet is just to pick up a cheap aftermarket cooler. You can get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus for $30 which would do a great job.
 
I always go for an aftermarket cooler for my machines because of what you are experiencing now. Even if I didn't overclock my machines, I run them damn hard. While stock coolers should be plenty to run a stock CPU at 100%, it's not always the case depending on other conditions such as not having a/c in the middle of a hot ass summer (thank heavens for redneck air conditioning). I prefer to not take chances and always buy a good aftermarket heatsink no matter what.

My recommendation is to grab a good aftermarket heatsink. If you're not overclocking balls to the wall like I prefer to do, you definitely will not need the most expensive and best heatsink out there. However, there are always a number of reasonably priced heatsinks which perform much better than the stock heatsink.

 
What is the fx62 cooler made of? Is it similar copper/aluminum combo?

In my experience stock coolers are often fine if their fans can ramp high enough

I'd go with giving the fx-62 cooler a try. Installing that along with some quality TM ought to do the trick.

I'm glad the stock coolers is off my 1055t, it sounded like a vuvuzela when running at full speed. :eek:
 
I also recommend that you go pick up a very good aftermarket cooler. If anything, it will quiet things down a lot as the stock setup is known to be very loud at higher temperatures. Spending the money for a very good air cooler or even the Corsair H50 would be offset by the fact that you could then pursue much more aggressive overclocks.

When you go looking for a cooler, you'll want to be careful though as so many of them will block you from being able to use all of your ram slots.

um your temps are fine either at 51C or 58C.. but just spend 25-30 bucks on a sunbeam core contact and that should work fine..

When you go looking for a cooler, you'll want to be careful though as so many of them will block you from being able to use all of your ram slots.
The Noctua NH-D14 that I have is quite notorious for clearance issues with RAM cards that have tall heat spreaders. I doubt that anything close to its heft is needed for keeping the 1090T happy unless it's going to be massively overclocked.

Yeah, but it shouldn't have any problems with normal ram. I'm not even sure those huge heat spreaders are more than a marketing gimmick if you arn't running your ram at insane speeds. I have to say that those Noctua ND-D14's are beautiful and a work of art that belongs in the museum of cpu coolers. I would like one in my gaming PC to quiet down my stock HSF on the P2 964 X4, but i'm using that PC less and less lately as we have run out of good PC games.

Yeah it looks to be the same design as the x6 one, its just bigger (in all the dimensions), weighs more and has a bigger fan. I'm going to give this a try as funds are currently tight, this months folding budget went on one of these:- http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/12/01/corsair_tx950w_950_watt_power_supply_review/. I have a spare 8800gt lying around that can now be utilised, another 5k PPD for the [h]orde:)

Yeah, once i get some more pennies my 8800 and 250 are due for serious upgrades:D It also allows me to use the existing antec 650 in my upcoming bigrig build:cool:

Had a look in the bios - nothing obvious there so changed the HSF for the fx62 one and nothing still 3200rpm whatever cpu temp is.

Anyone any idea's as to what could be wrong and how i get my cpu fan to do what it should be doing which is running at nearly full speed given that temps are currently high.

check and make sure that none of the fan controls were turned off in the bios.. if they turn off then it just leaves the fan at the 100% setting for the fan which is 3200rpm's even though cool 'n quiet and the fan controls will ramp it up to 7000rpm's.. only other one would be that the cpu temp sensor died(on the board) which could mean the boards might die soon..
