Ah, the joys of passive cooling. No dust being forcibly jammed between the fins of your heatsink... :)

All my PCs are due for that cleaning soon.... In fact, my secondary PC has locked up once or twice over the past week or so... I opened the case until I can get a chance to clean it all out....

You guys don't wanna see what I just cleaned out ...The guy gave me the box, (a P4 1.7 without a PSU or HD...still need a the PSU) but he was a smoker and the thing was a MESS!!! :eek:

My home box started feeling warm, and it was due for it's 6 month cleaning, I found 2 dead fans!! (Northbridge and Case ):eek: Both replaced under warranty ...Thanks to Antec and Albatron.... :cool:

Didn't get any of those...I loaded MM after I felt it get a little warm and cpu was 145F...
I don't have a fan monitor, and if I have a problem with it, I usually just restart it, never OFF... ;)


 
Yeah, I need to get the air compressor from my friend's house so I can clean out my main system. The EXOS is starting to look a little scary from having to run humidifiers a lot. Man, the dust loves to stick to everything then. :mad:

Otherwise, I don't worry about it too much. I'm spending more of my time trying to get more systems up and running. The PIII PenguinComp was finally figured out and put up and running last night.

Tonight, it's time to get the old PIII 600 running Foldix. After that I'll need to get a mobo from a friend to get a T-Bird running.

If anyone has old Socket A motherboards that work and don't want, I'll take 'em for free. I have three or four Duron/T-Bird CPU's that I could get running.

 
But turning off the box to clean it out will add that much time to finishing the WU it was happily munching on. You should be drawn, quartered and your boxen borged by others for requesting such a thing :mad:

Or. you can let it overheat. Die. And have zero production from that box, and have to spend more money to buy new parts...

Also by cleaning out your system/hsf you get cooler temps, allowing you to OC MORE, to produce those WU's faster.

It doesnt take that long to clean.

I finally cleaned the dust out of the rad on my main PC after a good 8 months build up and it knocked 3 degrees centigrade clean off my processor temp :eek:

Get an air compressor. You don't have to shut down then. I know I don't. I just have to have a vacuum cleaner or air cleaner around to catch all the dust. Either that or move the system close to the window and have the box fan blowing out the window and make sure as much of the dust as I can get goes out the window.

 
Vacuum cleaner = bad - they generate quite a lot of static electricity IIRC.

 
I have a hard enough time trying to keep most things plugged in...now you want me to do all this? :confused:

Technically speaking since you never put anything in a case you are exempt from this rule. Just point the compressor towards the table and fire away. ;)
 
bah it is not spring cleaning time yet

just a lil can of Duster will do ya right

 
2 weeks ago I noticed the temps on my CPU (3500+) and GPU (800XT) had gone up to 35deg C so I checked the radiator and it was completly blocked (Hmmm I just cleaned it 6 months ago). I blew it out and am back down to 30 deg C

I didn't say stick the vacuum cleaner inside the system. I just kept is near to catch some of the dust. If I was going to put the vacuum inside of it, I wouldn't bother with the air compressor. :p
