Haswell-E/x99 coming September confirmed

Thinking it over, if I go for this (very likely I will), I'm looking at the following:

  • $399 for Core i7 5820K (6 cores, 130W) - estimated based on current -E series pricing; doubtful Intel will price it closer to Core i7 4790K at $340.
  • $350 for two 8GB DDR4 sticks (if 16GB DDR4 stick is $350 converted from the Japanese Yen pricing)
  • $300 for a mid-range X99 board
Total: $1049 for being an early DDR4 adopter

After that, it is a wait-and-see approach at what AMD and Nvidia offer at the end of 2014 or Q1 2015 for their upcoming graphics card line-up.

I already have that $1000 saved up and waiting to spend it!

It will be hard to retire my X58 platform as it still meets all my needs now but were coming on 5 years this oct so its about time.

And I may also hold out until dec/jan timeframe if I don't like the pricing on DD4.

you meant people who couldn't get an EVGA SR-2 and a couple of 6 cores Xeons back in 2010:cool:

If the 5820K comes in at $350 for 6 cores and 3.3GHz, that's a steal compared to the older 4930K. Especially if the 5930K comes in at $500 ($499?), that's even better than the $550 to $575 4930K beforehand.

Will Intel drop the price for the 4790K if this happens? Unlikely, but that would be interesting to see.

Keep in mind the 5820K is rumored to have only 24 PCI-E lanes as opposed to the 5930K and 5960X, which will have 40.

A very significant drawback for some people...;)

meh. Wont be upgrading my setup for a long time to come. Ill probably keep it for the next 3-4 years. The days of yearly system swaps are over for me, there is no point when you take cost/benefit into consideration
