Hi guys i am currently having major issues with my infamous old PC, I have bought UT2004 from one of my mates and i am trying to get to work ,after 14 attempts i stare in the face of defeat (Again!) with the same damn error message "cyclic redundancy check" or "General protection fault" if i am lucky sometimes i set a game up, wait for the countdown and it cocks up right before "1". I have reinstalled it many times as well as doing a windows XP Repair reinstall.
PC Specs:
Socket A AMD Athlon 1200Mhz CPU Single core
Soltek Socket A SL-75-KAV motherboard
512MB of RAM (Generic) 133Mhz
ATI Radeon 9250 series 128MB (with up to date drivers (catalyst))
Western Digital 10 GB HDD (OS disk)
Seagate 20GB HDD (Files disk)
Creative Sound blaster Audigy 5.1
Windows XP SP2 with NET. Framework 2.0

As for the problem i suspected the seagate HDD and am midway through formating and checking for bad sectors, any input to this seriously annoying problem would be greatly appreciated:)

download and create a cd or floppy of Memtest86+ (hopefully you can get the computer to do that) and let it run overnight testing your memory, I think you have a bad stick. The CRC and GPFs usually, not always, but usually are a memory error. Will not cost anything other than a blank CD or a floppy to eliminate or confirm the memory.
 
yeah should be able to do that :p i know you said overnight but is there any specific timeframe i should work with

It doesn't take long per se. It's just that some RAM errors are so hidden that it takes a full 24 hours (which is how you should run Memtest+ for BTW) for an error to show up. So, 24 hours makes sure that your RAM is completely clean.

Try installing UT2004 on another PC and see if you get the CRC or general protection fault as well. If you do get those errors on another PC, then the install CD is corrupted.
