Hard Disk Drive Not Recognized w/ Slaved

I have a 500g HDD from my Asus laptop that will not show up when I slave it to my hard drive adapter kit. Does anyone know if this is a "feature" of the Windows 8 os or is it due to a hard ware malfunction on the drive itself (I can't put it back in the laptop and HDD adapter kit reads other drives) kit? It looks like the drive is made by HGST? It's slim, sata and was made in 2013. Any feedback on this would help. Thanks :confused:
 
Try directly connecting the hard drive to your PC.
 
make sure that your primary drive does not require a jumper for master. some drives did and some did not.

SATA drives do not require master/slave settings

If the drive is a single drive on the IDE (ATPI) controller it needs to be set to master or single. Please refer to your drive documentation on how to do this.
