[H] Titan Benching/Overclocks/Performance Thread

Tested a bit last night.

The voltage limitation is definitely a big problem for overclocking.

I have been seeing my card throttle down due to high RPM on fan when temperature is below 80c.

This kinda force me to buy a 3rd Party cooler just to solve this problem, which is annoying.

The huuuge OCN owner's thread is consumed with that very discussion. Water isn't definitely helping. Bumping the fan up high, or memory over 150, etc starts notching down the core speed for many. I settled on +105 core / +150 mem / +37mV. Going higher on core/mem just causes core MHz to dance around a lot or even drop more than lower settings. This really pisses some people off it seems, but the thing is spec'd at 837/876, and even on my abysmal 68% asic quality sample (only seen one lower than mine at 66%), it runs at 1097~1124 ... hard to complain, really. It's a beast. OC lottery winners on air is 1202 supposedly, but who knows how thoroughly that is tested for stability across a wide range of games / apps / benchmarks.

I really don't understand why they limit these things. If it's a software limitation to overcome shitty design (e.g. the voltage problems on the 590), then they did a bad job on the engineering and that upsets me. If it's a warranty concern, then release an unlocked BIOS with the stipulation that if it breaks its on you.

Flashed mine to 116%, it might be hanging on a little better to core clock when pushing the mem clock up, but no crazy improvements to recommend to others to rush off and flash a $1K video card. #BALLSOFSTEEL

With the back-brackets removed and max overclock I am not even breaking 60 C. Too bad NVIDIA's gimped power system and throttling really prevents one from pushing these cards and makes water cooling worthless.

You know you are having a good day when a box this large from Frozencpu arrives for your Titan chilled liquid build:

I don't understand, did water cooling help or not?

I can confirm that at least for me MSI Afterburner seems to have stabilized my OC compared to Precision X. I can hold 1110 and 1150 for my SLI cards running the Valley benchmark for extended periods without downclocking or crashes. With Precision X I was having crash problems at the same settings. I also run a custom fan profile and my cards are currently running 74c with the fan speed at 71%, voltage is +.21 and core is +110, mem is +200. The only thing I see is one card is running 1.162v compared to 1.175v on the second card and the lower voltage one sometimes drops to 1.150v. Other than that things are very stable now.

It is the same core program with a different skin, so don't think any changes in result of overclocking/throttling could be the result of Precision-X vs MSI Afterburner.

ya I want to know 2...I am only using one single titan(waiting for my second card to get shipped) my titan hits 80c with benchmarks and gaming. I have the sclocked evga model and all is left default, but with my side panel off and it being only 66f in my room, I still hit
80 degrees c. how are u guys getting those temps? manual fan adjustments? did I just get a hotter running chip?

I know it seems strange, but it's true. The same settings with Precision X result in crashes and downclocking and Afterburner seems to work without crashes and downclocking. I read this at another board and it seems to hold true for SLI. What brought it to light was the fact that the card experiencing the crashes was much more stable and clocked higher when running alone, but once I went to SLI it went to crap. All I can say is Afterburner fixed the issue and I can run 1137 with minimal downclocking/no crashing on one card while the other card holds steady at 1150. With Precision X all I could get to run steady was 1097 and 1150. I think Precision X might have a voltage setting bug with cards in SLI.

If it's on AUTO fan control it's just going to adjust the fan profile to barely run the fan until it gets close to 80. If the temp target is 80, that's where the card will run. Alternatively you can set up your own fan profile and keep it well below 80, although it doesn't seem to help at all with throttling and some cards seem to actually throttle earlier with cooler cards with a high fan speed -- which makes no sense.

Would love to see some benchies done with the Titan vs the new 7990. After playing with one of the limited Devil 13 cards I think I want 2.

Watercoolling is only helping a little bit. Not much.

My Titans are rock-stable at 1202mhz. The highest temp I've seen on my card was 29 Celsius.

Just came in here to say I just swapped my GTX 680 SLI for GTX Titan SLI and omfg these things are smooth as silk. Really amazing technology in these puppies. I'm running all stock clocks now but will be tuning them later. :) :)

I wish there was a way to get more out of these cards with out flashing.. poo
i'm 1150 gpu and 6400 ram without bump'n the volts.
cards stay under 40C even after hours on heaven (valley isn't a very good test to max the cards out - it sit mostly around 50-60% for that)
(of course my rad is the size of a computer case)

I've read that Valley leans a lot more on the CPU, so it's not great for 100% GPU load.

how is bioshock treating everyone? sadly isn't using all the power of the titan on my side (but I guess it doesn't need too).

I can keep my SC evga titans at 1032mhz with gaming and benchmarks. That's setting the power and temp sliders all the way to the right and leaving voltages at stock. I set a fan control profile and leave it on auto. Temps stay close to 80c with gaming/benchmarks and the cards stay at 1032.

If I do set vsync to on, or the cards are running a non-demanding game, they will down clock though, which is a function of the driver that I find very annoying.

Grab "Naennon" bios, use KBT to change P0/P2 from 1.215v to 1.1875v, and then set up a custom fan profile to keep it operating below 78C (else it drops 1-2 speed bins at 79~80C). It really works.

Actually i find this feature great, why would my cards run at full speed and power, consuming W and producing heat when they run under 50% load, there is absolutely zero need for that.
