Check these things out. For 250 dollars you get a case, powersupply, Athlon 2900+, Chaintech mobo, HSF, 512 mb memory, 120 gb HDD, CDROM, and mouse+keyboard.
Chaintech 7NJL6 Barebone Kit

Pretty hot if you ask me, my family is probably going to order one.

This seems to be a complete system to me. (you also get a video card)

Damn, that's so nice.
That'd make a decent server. Better features than the $300 dell sc420.

Tiger Direct + Rebates: Avoid.

One of my friends bought the same setup, but it was a 200 gig drive, a gig of ram and a 3200+ for the same price... And it was too good to be true. He had to send in 7 rebates, and he only got 3 or 4 of them. Ended up paying something over 400...

Most of these rebates are all going to tiger, using ONREBATE. The couple that I have had using the online rebates havnt been bad. I woudl really watch out if theres any soyo rebates etc. I havnt had any chaintech rebates so i cant say on that.

and it isnt just one rebate it is alot of them

Im 1 for 1 with TD rebates ($100 off AMD 64 3400+ and A8V deluxe motherboard).

Too bad I don't need another system

*sigh*

I've posted in every thread I've run across where people bash TD and their rebates. Now, first let me say that MIR's from ANYWHERE are a pain in the ass. And looking at this deal where you have umpteen rebates to fill out and send in would certainly give me pause before counting on them, regardless of the retailer.

But TD rebates are not that bad. I've bought from TD several times over the years, some with rebates, and with one exception I never had a rebate hitch. That one time that I did, last year, I contacted the manufacturer (it was not a TD rebate, but a mfg rebate). After a couple of e-mails back and forth the mfg blew me off and ignored me. I let it drop for several more months. 9 months later I remembered about it and on a whim I called TD. They made good on the rebate themselves, on the spot, no questions asked, and credited my card within 3 days. 9 months later. On a rebate that wasn't theirs. They didn't even ask for copies even though I offered them. In my book a retailer can't do any better than that.

TD recently announced a Rebate Guarantee program where they guarantee that, provided you can document that you properly completed the rebate paperwork, they will back up any rebates offered on their site. I don't see it listed prominently on their site now, but somebody linked to it in another thread here just a few weeks ago.

Sometimes rebates will fall through the cracks, and certainly some rebate processing centers are even reported to encourage their employees to "lose" or disqualify rebates for no reason, but that's not TD's direct fault as they do not process the rebates themselves, at least not any more. At least they're making an attempt to cover the rebate themselves, which is more than can be said for most other retailers I've dealt with.

EDIT: Found it: TigerDirect Rebate Guarantee

LOL! ARE YOU SERIOUS? Thats the craziest thing I have seen. haha I don't know about Tiger's rebates.. but with that many.. someone is bound to screw up somewhere. I know rebates are a pain in the ass anywhere.. but how many of them are there? 15 or so? I know that if there are so many that I don't feel like counting... that's too many. Think about how much in stamps and envelopes that is. haha

Hardly 15, there are only 7 ... which is still 7 too many for me though.

QFT. I've heard many bad things about TD and rebates.

well you can't really "QFT" if you have only heard things.....and not experience it, but I am betting there's lots of people that have experienced it.

and what the hell is a 2900+ anyways?

who said this is better than a dell sc420?

it has seperate video.. ok..

but the dell has recent hardware.. ddr2, 7200 rpm drives, serial ata, pci-e.. (i know you have to either cut the mobo or vid card to get one in.. )

but i wouldn't say that chaintech barebones is any better... it is an older generation.. now that 2900+ might beat out a celeron 360-J or whatever it is.. especially if you could get into that chaintech bios and OC...

5 for 5 with TigerDirect rebates.

They also cross-shipped a new mobo to me when the one I purchased was DOA.

I'm 0-1, but that one was $70 worth :(.

since tiger direct went with Onrebate I have not had an issue with any of thier rebates at all.
