That reminds me feather, your way behind in your quota.

This should maybe go in the general info thread. Since we only get about three sticky threads in this forum, I don't believe this should be one of them.
Your wish is my command.

I am still around for maintaining the [H]ordeCentral thread, people just need to PM me with things they need/want added/changed.

TOBIT!!!!! oh hai there.

edit: never mind, seems mibbit was having a freak out over me putting the lappy to sleep..

Yeah, I need new people to troll.. er, socialize with. :D

just use:

chat.freenode.net

When it asks for a user name , put in your user
when it asks for a channel put in: #hardfolding

when it asks for the captcha, use whatever it says.

I am getting a FUCKING migraine
I just want some help on my box so i can fold
i was told to go to IRC
(whatever the FUCK that is)
so i downloaded x chat 2 (per recommendations)
installed it and whatever server is listed that everyone says should be a "stickey"
(whatever that is)
isnt in the list and it wont let me add it ....
this is really frustrating ... i am ready to just walk away

First..Fuckn breathe...

A sticky is a post that is "stickied" at the top of a forum. it will always be on top of the forum.

Next..

This is the sticky they are speaking of... http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1781171

IRC information is at the bottom of the first post.

Next..

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. Its basically a big ass chat room.

Next...

Dont come into it with an attitude like that and we would be happy to assist you.

how do i get x chat 2 into this place?
i dont know how to make this utility do whatever it needs
to do
this server isnt in the list and it wont let me add it

I personally use mIRC. If you can download that. I can walk you through it. Ive never used xhcat.

with xchat there should be somwhere to input a server. This is where you want to input chat.freenode.net. Once you are on that SERVER, you will need to join our ROOM, which will be called a channel. This is where youll need to enter #hardfolding.

All these options should be up top, most likely under the file option.

Yes it does. I use x-chat.

Xchat(menu) > network list > fill in nick(all fields) > click add > type freenode > highlight freenode > click edit > highlight new server > edit > irc.freenode.net >
close .

Yes?

use

chat.freenode.net

user - your user
channel - #hardfolding
captcha - whatever it says

even using the 30 day copy for dummies
its just a train wreck ...
just wasting my time
ty for yours

W.Feather tried but he was wrong, go to here:

http://webchat.freenode.net

then do a username
#hardfolding as the channel
input captcha
click connect

it's like riding a bike, you've fallen a few times, but now that i'm holding your seat, you should be able to ride :)

If you are on a windows machine, we can do a teamviewer session and I'll setup xchat for you?

IRC isn't instant messenger, there will be times where nobody talks, there will be times where everybody talks and you can't get at line in.
You are never guaranteed an answer and you never know what direction the talk will go.
the people on IRC are generally helpful, but remember their answer depends on you and how they perceive you.

As for client in windows.
Yes you can use Xchat 2, I prefer nettalk, but the selection is a little slim.

Yeah, bear in mind the time zones. Runs2far and I are in Europe and have to wait till late afternoon our time to get any heavy support, everyone on the channel has different strengths e.g its pointless asking me for any 4p support or help as I don't have a 4p machine

JTG, be patient with these guys. It is easy to forget that not everyone grew up with the dawning of the internet and all the awesome programs and technologies. I too have wondered at times why to continue using IRC since I hadn't used it since around 2000. However, mIRC hasn't changed much and still works. Unfortunately, as you noticed it is 30 day trial or pay up. If you get too frustrated to set up an alternative, Team Viewer is great for getting assistance. You don't even have to install the whole program.

If you can't get quick enough answers on IRC, feel free to post a thread in the forums. There are a lot of frequent members whom are willing to help. I'm not much for FAH, but if you ever feel like giving BOINC or DIMES a shot, feel free to drop me a line.

Well we appreciate what our soldiers do regardless if it is small or great. BOINC is just the client that Berkeley developed. There are over 80 different projects and some have multiple sub projects. WCG is a very popular one here in these forums and is a not for profit funded by IBM that does humanitarian projects. They are mostly known for their Cancer and AIDS projects. However, they do an assortment of things. The client is much simpler to use and can easily be a set and forget product for those who don't want to babysit so much. I encourage you to look at all of the DC projects when you have time. I primarily focus on BOINC because I can attach to multiple projects at once with the same client. I can use an account manager to easily change systems between multiple hosts. Don't get me wrong, FAH is a great DC project to support and our team is the most bad ass bestest team out there. I just like to contribute to many different things. :)

icechat is an alternative to mIRC and its free, you can also use irc via your web browser
