GTX 670 is Tiny!

If performance is on point, then awesome! Now we just need single slot enthusiast level graphics cards again
 
The build of materials might be lower, but the 28nm process has proven to be relatively expensive that if true could keep prices high (speculation about low yields, etc).
 
Props to Nvidia for designing a smaller, more efficient mid level card from the ground up.
 
so small I almost dont like it.. I have 2x 6870 2gb's that are already small enough it looks funny with dual cards. They are quite a bit bigger then the 670 PCB..

This looks like Nvidia is attemping to cut costs where they can, give us a pretty cheap cooler (not expecting anything great from this thing) and giving us a much smaller PCB (Biggest cut they can do honestly).

I don't think it will be cheaper then $400, its nvidia trying to capitalize somewhere, as it has been rumored everywhere that 28nm is a money sink so far.

edit: I might add that I expect every one of their cards to use this PCB. What will change is power connector and SLI connectors. This might actually save a grip of money.
 
Sharing the same PCB among all the lower end cards could result in some additional manufacturing discounts...if anything that could be further evidence that 28nm has not been kind to nVidia so far.

Barely bigger than my sound card. Heh. Wonder if they kept the heat sink big just so people can feel like it's a high end card. Edit: also wondering if they kept the 680 a full size board for marketing reasons.
No. They kept the heatsink big because its the same chip as a GTX680 with parts disabled. The amount of heat it puts out should be similar. Therefore, the 670 needs a big fan and a big heatsink same as the GTX680 regardless if the PCB is shorter.
The GTX680 was already designed long before the GTX670, so they just left it as it was. If you notice, the GTX670 PCB is almost exactly half of a GTX690.

I'm not so sure about that though it is likely. The GTX 680 is a strong competitor though I question its sales volume so far. Either it is out of stock everywhere because people are just buying them up, or they're out of stock everywhere because they're having major yield trouble. 28nm was supposed to result in significantly more die per wafer compared to 40nm but...

Until we see a GTX 670 in the wild with a non-speculative price, judgement reserved.

It will retail for 399.99, frys already has them in stock at that price.
 
If it is priced at $400, I just don't see the point with not spending an extra $100 for a 680. Very disappointed if it is priced over $350, which means I'll skip this gen all together and just pick up a 2nd 570 for cheap on craigslist or sell my 570 and pick up a cheap 580 on craigslist.

I like it a lot but it would be interesting to see water blocks for such a short card like that.
I guess you could argue that they would be so quiet/efficient that you wouldn't need to watercool.

Yes, I'm expecting the cooler to be a cost cutting part of this card as well. It looks like they are going to be using this PCB for their entire line up too.
 
Waiting for the reviews on this one! Probably may pull down the 7870 pricing depending on the performance
 
honestly-tiny is cool. Just think of new square SSF cases that can come about with such high pwr on small package.

I'd like a little cube on my desk.
 
that is still crazy tiny though for almost any card so its hard to believe they could do that with a fairly powerful card like the gtx670. that pcb is no bigger than my old 8600gt. :eek:

Nvidia has to be laughing at being able to do so much with the little gk104 skus.
 
yer i noticed the 680 was even smaller than the 570, its a good thing, they cut it really close most of the time
 
Definitely not what we are used to. I think it's cool. like ib. I bet with 670 and ib you could run like a 350w psu. maybe even a brick below desk.

If the 670 turns out to be under 240mm, and it looks like it will be, you can get one into a Q11.
