As always, the fine folks at FileShack have hosted a 720p version of the GTA 4 trailer.

You don't want to miss out on the highly anticipated first teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV, the first game in the franchise in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Nope, more Liberty City. I can't wait. :D

It looks a lot like NY city. I saw what looked like 42nd st, and the Brooklyn bridge.

So I guess GTA4 is the old story of ex-criminal wants to live like a law abiding citizen, but then gets caught up in crime again.

looks like New York. Is it going to be in a real city thise time?

Well, uh, Liberty City is based off New York City... so, your both right.

Wow, reading some of these comments people make. Wtf....

This is from the actual game engine. If you fail to believe that then stfu and move along.

Well, the Empire State building and Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge is there so I'd say it's New York.

And it still looks craptacular.....ah well I'll still buy it and play the hell out of it.
Which game that has the same amount of real estate and interactivity (notice the indoor scenes, as well as the daytime cycles) are you comparing it to, praytell?

It only says it is Liberty City in multiple locations throughout the video. It is not New York, but modeled off of it. Just like all other non spin off GTA's.

Here is a good example.

i love how the MetLife building says "GetALife"

I have to show that to my client there, she calls it the "GetAlife" building all the time.

It's very based off of new york, just like the original GTA game was, just this time more so than before.

Liberty City is obviously based off of New York, NY
Vice City was based off the South Beach area Miami Beach FL
San Andreas was based off of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas

There seems to be good work done on the wireframes but those are clearly early textures. I think the textures almost look like there is no specular reflection or highlights, just the raw texture.

I was just checking some of the in-game ads in the trailer

it's great, one of the movie posters is "I slept with your mom", and another is an ad for "America's Next Top Hooker"

The good thing is that games like Saints Row and Crackdown are good enough to make sure that Rockstar can't come out with some weak ass game or they'd get laughed off the planet. The last thing anyone wants is for GTA 4 to feel like a GTA knock off....if that makes any sense.

The video looked alright and they have 6 months to beef up those models and textures, improve game play, etc. etc.

yeah I thought it was good, just kinda sad it's in newyork again

of course graphics wise I wasn't ever expecting too much, but it seemed good. I didn't see the 720 version though, obviously at higher resolutions it'll look mroe obvious

That's what I'm thinking...

Saint's Row is one of my favorite games on 360 right now... I felt that it brought a lot to the genre, but it was still missing "something"

GTA4 has to come hard, or not come at all... at least that's how RockStar should be seeing it.

I would have enjoyed another city as well, I really thought they would follow-up with London or something like that. (based on their past sequels)

It would have been pretty cool to storm Buckingham palace.

"Have fun storming the castle!" *waves*

Are we to expect a rehash of the original Liberty City? As in, same city layout in parts with updated textures? I wouldn't mind it being called Liberty City if it was an entirely knew city, layout wise, but I really don't want to tool around the same city again.

I don't have to compare it to anything to see that it looks like crap. Like Axiomatic said, the hope is they're still working on textures and models.

Daytime cycles are neat, but shining pink sunset light on a turd doesn't mask that it's a turd. It won't even make me go "ooooh what a pretty turd!"

Although as I said before....turd-looking or not, I'll still buy it. For PC. Gameplay is king.

I've played GTA: 3, GTA: VC, and GTA: SA on the PC and on the PS2/xbox. On the gameplay side of things I really enjoyed the PS2/Xbox versions of the game more than the PC. GTA on the PC was great for modding and what not, but the controls were severely lacking. I eventually went out and purchased a USB/PS2 controller adapter and this made things better, but programming the controls was a PITA esp. with GTS: SA.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is I don't understand your comment; "I'll still buy it. For PC. Gameplay is king."
