Gothic 4 delayed

The North American release of Gothic 4 has been pushed back to October 19'th, which seems to me to be a silly thing to do since Fallout New Vegas will also be released on the 19'th.

I was planning on spending every night, for seven nights, on Gothic 4, and then taking a break and switching over to New Vegas.

My plans have gone astray. :(

Yet Steam still has it listed for the 12th. Meh, I had the same plan of staggering my Gothic 4 and New Vegas playing. October has been a tease so far.

I still have Gothic 3 to finish. Barley touched it but New Vegas will definitely be a purchase from me. Can't wait to get more Fallout.

It seems odd to delay the release date like 3 days before the release was scheduled. You'd think it would already have gone gold and had all the DVDs pressed and shipped by now.

The DVDs have been pressed, and they have shipped. So yeah, weird.

Maybe they discovered something that they want to have a day-1 patch to fix? But then again, this is only the North American release right? Kinda strange, but I guess I can wait if I have to. I really should play Gothic 3 some more anyway.

It's no big deal, because it's only one week. But it messed with my plans.

I guess I could put New Vegas aside for a week - but my willpower is zero for this type of thing, and it's probable that I would just install it right away.

I ordered the Collector's edition of New Vegas, and this might be the last title I'll ever buy the physical product of. The expertly published game guides from Prima (especially the hardcover editions), have provided me with something physical of the game, so I no longer need to buy boxed copies for manuals and the like.

Actually, last night, a funny thing happened. I started up Mass Effect 2, which I'm about halfway through finishing, and couldn't get the thing to launch. I was seeing the securom message informing me that my disc was not correct. "But there's no disc," I screamed. "This is a frickin' digital copy!" I'm so used to buying from Steam or D2D, and not having to search for some ridiculous disc, that I had forgotten I actually had bought Mass Effect in physical form. It took me literally 30 seconds to work that out, and I was getting ready to go to the forums to complain about this new problem.

Anyhow, there's a small window for Gothic 4, which will release on the Tuesday. I can get it from Steam right away, and there's a possibility that New Vegas won't be delivered to my home until the Monday of the following week.

I'm kind of debating with myself about the collector's edition of New Vegas. I don't like having gaming boxes in my home anymore. It's just unnecessary clutter which I can't take with me into the next world anyhow. I guess the playing cards are kind of cool. The poker chips are useless.

They'd be better off delaying it till November.

At this rate they would be absolutely. I don't get this at all.

Wabe's right: I'm seeing Oct. 19 pop up all over the place for this on retail. I'd have to believe Steam would follow suit...wouldn't they?

There's no way in hell I'd put a game out on the same day as something like a Fallout game.

What are they thinking?

Sure, I'll buy both but Fallout definitely has priority in my book. Actually I'll probably alternate. It'll all work out. :) I just think this is a pretty puzzling move.

dont really see why gothic cares about fallout anyway. Not like gothic sells 1/50th of what fallout does. And the folks who are gonna buy gothic most likely have already decided to.

its small beans in comparison so i dont think the release date change matters much.

eh, if it was a fallout thingy, they would do better to release it a week early, before the retail wallets are drained.

I'm totally in fallout mode. Playing Fallout 3 right now, and I want to get this game exhausted (beat all the DLC's and such) before I play New Vegas. Maxing my game with the big mods: NMC, MMM, FWE, EVE, PB, WMK, xCALIBR, and tons more (ask me if you want those acronyms :p ) Also, there is a quest mod or 2 I'd like to try out too... and explore huge areas I've never been too. I'll be busy until New Vegas. Aside from plot, story, and character interaction, New Vegas is probably going to feel like a step back in some respects. I don't care though. New Vegas has lots of juicies that F3 mods haven't achieved. I really like Obsidian's touch to things.

When's the last time you beat a game Wabe? :p

I don't know. If the game is bigtime then word of mouth will carry it.

on second thought.... I know it seems like wacky thinking, but it might just actually have some truth in it: maybe it's good that the game is overshadowed by New Vegas' release. That way, the game will be released only to the loyal who will forgive the onslaught of bugs on release. By the time people move on from New Vegas looking for another RPG, Gothic 4 will be patched up and people will find out about a game that is solid.

Funnily enough, it might have been Fallout 3, which, a bit worryingly, suddenly isn't launching for me. I last launched it a couple of months ago, but now it's just not working. I don't care much, but I hope New Vegas works.

It appears that Gothic 4 has been delayed because there was a shipping problem, and because the publisher wanted the digital version to be released on the same day as the boxed copies. Weird.

Wabe, since you bought the game, just replace the....I shall say no more....Lips are sealed. :)

Gothic had the chance to come out as a big player game with Gothic 3.

I'll give Gothic 4 a chance after a while, waiting to find out if it came out as bad as 3 did.

I'm confident that Gothic 4 is not going to ship out on the streets in nearly the epic train wreck form that Gothic 3 did.

But I'm sure this thing is going to have some quirks coming out of the box.

Gothic 4 is getting some decent reviews from the German sites. The scores have been lowered even - apparently because the game wasn't Gothic enough for them. I wish these people would stop living in the past. I'm keeping it in mind that Risen scored 77 on the PC and 60 on the 360. It's beginning to look like Gothic 4 is going to be this year's Risen.

Apart from that, why is Steamm still showing a release date for tomorrow?

Maybe they're in disagreement with the publisher about the delay?

If Steam is just being neglectful about this then they're going to irritate people who buy the title today, hoping to launch tomorrow.

I suspect that it's the latter.

I assume you're getting it from Steam? Would be interesting to see if you can pull off a download. If you can, be sure to keep your Steam in offline mode until official release date hits.

What's that mean? What are they saying that you've seen?

I sincerely hope so.

I'd about guarantee you it's the latter. Breaking "street date" is a big no-no that you can get you in big trouble.

good, maybe then it will actually install for people since the demo wont even for many.

Glad I did a search. I was just about to ask if any one had picked this up yet. I'm going to pick it up for sure.

Or the "lower your audio to 48KHz in the control panel" quirk. The demo wouldn't launch for me until I did that and I had to scour that off JoWood's own forums, which I hit by accident with a search engine run.

The demo is working for most people. The engine itself looks fantastic and runs really well.

But try this. What was the most recent game that ran really well on your system - no problems launching it, game ran great? Okay, now head on over to the website for that game and visit the troubleshooting section of the forum. You will find thread upon thread of angry gamers saying the engine is crap, that the dev doesn't support the game, and that this will be the last time they'll be buying any game from this company.

Here, I'll even do it myself.

Just Cause 2 has an amazing engine. It's shocking that you can see so far, that there's so much happening at once, that there are zero load screens while you're playing, and that the game runs so damned smooth. The game is just so bloody well optimized that it deserves some kind of technical award. Bugs? Ha! The game was completely glitch free, and most people would LOL if you were to create a thread about how crap the engine is.

Gothic 4 has been released on Gamersgate.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1502331

So now the question is, what is Gamersgate, and do I want to buy one title from them?

Is this site like D2D? I like D2D because ther's no massive client that you have to load. All they have is an optional download manager, which works well. Jesus, I hope they don't pull this. I'll bet they didn't realize that they weren't supposed to do this.

Gamersgate is a european site. I have ordered some games from them. They are fine, although their servers were slower than steam. I forget how their stuff works, but I don't think it is "authentication" based like steam. So its probably the install limit that comes with the game drm that prevents piracy. But yeah, I hate having games all over the place, especially when stuff like dlc or online requires yet more accounts with other sites.

I wonder if this will actually work for me here in Canada? One guy at Steam said it didn't work after he installed it, another guy said it did.

I might risk this.

There's got to be some catch. Research more first.

Oh I see, it's a European site, and therefore not under the same restrictions as Steam.

I guess it will work.

Hmm....

I really don't get why digitally distributed games get different release dates in different regions when there aren't any language barriers. It's available in Europe on Steam, but in the US we have to wait until the 19th. It's usually the other way around, but either way it's stupid.

It's stupid that only certain regions see delays, too, especially when they go ahead and delay it so can disappear in essence on Fallout New Vegas day. The whole thing doesn't make sense.

it makes plenty of sense if you are a retailer and don't want to see your sales get raped because online is available 2 weeks earlier. remember this game is also for xbox and ps3, which probably have a higher markup and also big partners to keep happy. so yeah, it sucks for those that preordered, fans are unhappy, but I think everybodies hands are tied. All it takes, for example is for walmart or bestbuy to say they are reducing shelf space for the publisher and then the rules get changed.

Okay, I bought this. Got my serial key and everything. Download will take about 14 hours. Now I'm leaving home again, this time with my PC on. This always worries me a bit. Sometimes I'll even phone home, just to see if my answering machine kicks in - if it doesn't, then I'll know that my home burned down. :(
