Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Yah, when playing games I can't notice them at all, + i'm gaining 850$ by keeping this westy vs my sharp. And ps. Nice Account name....

yeah, ill tell you about it tomorrow. well congrats on receiving yours 3 weeks before i will, you bastard.

i saw my friend's 42" W4207 play movies from a wide range of quality off pc.. everything looks great.. tempted to go for it, but i don't get paid until friday. ~~ >_<.... oh yeah.. what's the return policy exactly for this? can i get my money back if i decide to go in a different direction or will i get the dreaded gift card?

Is there really a problem like this? One of the main reasons I bought the 37w3 was to play 360 on it through VGA :( Is there only the problem if you switch to the input before you turn on the 360?

Yeah, but it's not a major problem. You just have to make sure that you turn on the 360 before you switch to the VGA input. Of course, you can always switch to a different input and then back to VGA to auto-correct the image. It was a slight hassle for me this weekend, since I was watching the anime series Last Exile (with the HD-DVD addon) and everytime I switched DVD's, I had to cycle the inputs (too many light sky scenes).

I think that I would much rather have the older version (with this bug) and the extra DVI input, rather than the supposedly increased contrast of the new model. The Spring update for the 360 fixed the VGA levels and I can always add a backlight behind the monitor to help with the perceived black levels. Regardless, this monitor is a great buy.

90 day return policy, 100% satisfaction garenteed. Also, Ifyou pay by credit card, they will put the money back into your CC in the event you return, only time you get gift card is if you don't have proof of purchase (reciept) or you paid with a gift card in the first place. (ths only applys if you buy from costco)

I have a quick question, ok, lets just say i'm working on a project, could I just use the remote and switch it to watch TV?

And it doesn't appear to have a TV in port :|

For some reason the Costco I returned my LVM-37W3 was unable to refund directly to my card I purchased it on, so instead they handed me $833 and some change.

It does not have a built in tuner. Though the remote has a quick switch button for each input to easily switch back and forth between them. It also has an automatic input switch (can be disabled) when it senses a signal from a connected device recently turned on.

You could always use the PIP function.

If you return in store, they only accept Amex credit card. So my guess would be they just gave you cash or wrote you a check.

Is the box big enough for one person to carry or are 2 needed? I'll be curious to see how my UPS guy gets it up the stairs to my apartment.

finally got a respectable digital camera to post a pic, got it last november on black friday from crutchfield, free shipping w/ 2 year ext warranty. $1089 total.

also managed to get a friend to bite on the costco deal last weekend :)

Update about Costo:

I talked to a rep lastweek asking when it would come, thats when I found out it was on backorder. She said they would refund my shipping.

Well, mine is on the Brown truck waiting to be delivered, and Costco ALREADY refunded my $72 shipping charge back to my card. Couldn't be happier. Costco is simply the best.

Now, the wait is on. . . . . . . . . .

I'll post pics tonight of my new setup!

After several articles keep popping up on joystiq about people getting robbed, I'm wondering about whether you think this monitor is a potential theft item. For a big guy, I think he could lift it and be gone with it. I'm not at home right now, so i don't know if it has a Kensington lock hole on it, but I don't remember seeing one. But I was wondering if there would be some other kind of way to lock it down to a desk or something?

Any other measures you think one could take? Maybe some kind of tape with name and serial number emblazoned on it in an inconspicuous place on the monitor? Probably would want to take similar measures with a PS3, Xbox, and PC.

I don't know man, this thing is quite hefty and I'm pretty sure you would like might suspicious walking around with this thing without a box. Plus I live 3 stories up with no elevator and bringing this down is quite hard. My friend’s house got robbed about half a year ago and the burgluars took 0 of their 2 flat panels that were worth about 3 grand each back then, instead they stole smaller items such as laptops, jewelry and ipods.

Anyways after using this panel for a day I'm still overwhelmed by the size. Black levels are awesome so far, tested it by running against my CRT in mirror mode and watching tons of xvid/h264/divx and wmv videos. My screen did develop one defective pixel that does not display green/blue and goes black in videos, but its not a big problem. Loving this display!

And where can I get a tuner?

You might look suspicious, but who would stop you, you know? It's just not that kind of world anymore. Shoot, I brought my monitor in at night (after I eagerly drove all the way to DHL to get it) partly because I couldn't wait until the next day and partly because I didn't want any nosy people seeing what I was carrying into my home. :D

Right now I'm planning to wait until the end of August to get something, but the 37W3 is basically what I'm looking for. How much can I expect prices to drop on a 37" 1080p like this by the end of the summer?

from $800? not much. I would expect MAYBE that $800 would be findable at a few places come August. Keep in mind the normal price for this TV is still $1000 if not more.

or... if you have cable or satellite, just get a box for it. If you have neither, check out your local electronics store. Shouldn't run you more than a couple hundred at most.

Couple hundred :( Man, I was hoping for $50 max! Oh well, maybe another brand will at least include the tuner.

you could just rent a cable box...Since most people that buy HDTV's at least have digital cable w/box in their homes...(except for me I actualy use my tuner in my 1080i TV.) Built in Tuner is great if your TV takes a cable card and IF your service provider provides cable cards (mine does not the technology is too "new" lol, I bought my High Def like 2-3 years ago though and they tech is still "new?" )

So if I want HD content I have to rent a box anyways...And well, theres your tuner.

I Just wish my Westy would ship...

You can try to buy a HD receiver/tuner on ebay for a cheap price. The Hughes HTL HD receiver is around $50-60 or less and can do free OTA HD.

After tax, shipping, and the $40 non-member fee.. this is almost $1k for me. I'm wondering if I'd be able to do better via ebay or something with only shipping and after the price drops a bit...

Heh, I said at MOST... there should be some around the price you're looking for, but don't expect too many features. Over half of the HD channels are through cable/satellite right now anyhow, so why not subscribe?

I think for $5 you get a costco membership, lol. Or... find someone with a costco membership to order it for you, lol.

I really wouldn't be expecting any additional price drops on this monitor. I have a feeling that this is about as low as it may ever get. This same screen has been around for a few years, and while the SE revision is new, it's largely the same screen. Westinghouse will replace it sooner or later.

I've been tracking this TV for a long time, and It's just over half of the original price ($1499) now, and most products never come down that far in price before they're EOL'ed. It's possible that the new revision was a cost cutting measure (new panel, missing DVI, etc.) on a popular model of screen, but I thnk it's probably just a last-ditch effort to get a little more mileage out of the model.

The only other places that routinely have this monitor at very low prices are NewEgg and J&R, and they've never even gotten close to this price. I'd get it while you can.

You WILL get the SE. The fact that there's an SE version at all suggests that Westinghouse has stopped making the earlier revision at all. You can always return it ... Costco's return policy is quite good. Or you can keep it and get a DVI switcher, or even a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Uh... someone over at the the AVSforum said the SE version of this monitor is not true 1080p... can someone verify?

"I opened and hooked it up. It is a different model. We have a real LVM-37w3 upstairs. This "se" model appears as a Westinghouse W4207 in my iMac's display settings, and the highest resolution available to me is 1920x1080 (interlaced) (TV). My other w3 gave me true 1920x1080, not interlaced and not TV. I am really irritated that this "se" model is nowhere to be found on the web, and Costco sold me a 37w3 not a 37w3se. Not accepting true 1080p input makes this set not a good deal at all.

I am going to try Linux and Windows to see what res options I have. I have tried my old DVI cable from the one upstairs and still no dice. Am I wrong here? Anyone else have an "se" model? I may be returning mine. Thanks."

I love these panels but they are just way to big for me and what I'm do specially two feet away.

I'm feeling charitable tonight so I'm going to avoid making the obvious one-handed surfing, low-def internet porn joke right now. :)

It is 1080p dont listen to what other people are saying if they cant figure out their own computer settings. I'm running 1080/60(p) right now and had it at 1080/30(i). He probably needs to update his driver or just get rid of the mac ;) (jk).
