good graphcis cards for wow

ahhh thanks for that pointer, more and apparently better ram for the same price. only question is all my years of non collage/ paid education training on building a computer, ram is one of my unfriendly parts. so its ddr2 800, and the board says ddr2 1066. this wont affect other than some slight speed decreases will it?

No. The mobo can support up to DDR2 1066 but by no means requires it. You'll be perfectly, with zero performance difference, between DDR2 1066 and DDR2 800 RAM.

allright, sweet

the way i get money is slightly obscure(but by no means illegal), and i dont quite know how fast i can get it. but it most likely wont be till christmas, so christmas money and what i save up should (hopefully) pull it off.

the only thing i may do is a beginer overclock so the cpu isnt slower than my current one. i may or may not though because i will most likely not be able to tell the differance.

About a week before you're ready to buy, make sure you make a thread in the General Hardware subforum for a parts review. The guys over there will make sure that whether or not that build is still a good choice for your money.

^ What he said. CTRL R just lets you see your realtime FPS as opposed to the static number you see when you mouseover the computer icon on the action bar.

Ah ok, so 60fps is the static number it always displays? I'll have to check this when I get off work.

I don't have any problems with my setup playing WoW and everything is maxed...even Shadows now.

For the OP, follow Danny Bui's advice...he knows what he is talking about.

I think what he was saying was when you mouse over the comp icon, it shows you the FPS for that second (static). However, if you Ctrl+R it brings up a FPS counter that is constantly changing (not static).

V-sync simple does not allow the gfx card to exceed the FPS monitor can produce, most are 60. but looking at your 4870x2, it my just sit at 60 anyways, lol.

Post up what it shows, i would like to see how the dual handles wow.

Yeah, I will.

I can tell you that my rig handles WoW like Ike handled Tina. :D But I would like to see the actual numbers too.

edit:
The numbers don't really bear out with my analogy.

With everything maxed and V-Sync on, I get around 30 to 60fps. Almost never higher than 60. With it off I get around 50 to 80fps but I got some tearing so I turned it back on.

I thought the numbers would be higher.

Having said that, I just don't get any lag at all and I don't notice the difference between 30 and 60fps. I guess I am lucky? ;)
