im looking for 40+ fps all around (shattrath, end game raids, etc.)
i would prefer 60+ but idk because.....
my limit is an agp 8x slot (no pci-e)

can you guys tell me what graphics card's your using if your getting those fps?

also, make sure that what you say you checked after patch 3.0, because there are some new graphics effects that were implemented.

thank you in advance for help.

Your best bet would be a 6800GT then. I don't see why that card shouldn't be able to handle such a visually simple game. Going PCIe and grabbing a 7900GT though would be best.

What kind of eye candy are you looking for?

What's your monitor size and native resolution?

Why are you posting this here and not the video card forums?

What's your budget?

Why don't you just buy a new computer since it sounds like yours is about to die of old age and turn to dust?

Some more questions that need to be answered:
- What PSU do you have?
- What are the specs of the rest of your system?

You actually hear this a lot but it isn't the case with the new patch unless you run everything on lowish. If you want everything up as high as you can (with the available video cards for AGP) then your best bet is a 3850.

I run wow on the rig in my sig and things can get sloppy in 25 mans with all the settings on high. Even in shat I dip into the 20s at full tilt. The 2nd rig (wifes rig) has a 7600gt and since the patch, I have had to turn everything to medium/low to keep it @ a solid 40 everywhere.

Edit: Both rigs run at 1440x900 19" widescreen non-windowed.

whoa that was a lot of questions
im posting here because it says games AND hardware, and im trying to find new hardware for a game :)
i want all the effects, like specular lighting, etc.
monitor size is 20" windescreen at 1680x1050 (which is the resolution i want to play at, or at least 1280x1024)
my budget will probally varry depending on the way i get money, but over 60$ (ill probally save for over 100)

im guessing my psu is pretty decent (believe its got over 400w)
system specs are:
p4 HT @ 3.0
2gb ram 3200

is that the info you guys needed?

Close. What EXACT PSU do you have? Not all 400W PSUs can actually provide 400W of power cleanly, reliably or at all. So find out who made that 400W PSU, the model number or better yet, get a picture of the label on the side of the PSU

Well the best AGP card is an AMD 3850 which goes for about $130. This *MIGHT* run WoW with the new updates at that resolution and full graphics with 40fps average, but it might not as well. Look for some reviews of it online... or google "3850 agp and wow" if you want a quick search.

This. Please get a reliable PSU if you want to be sure that your upgraded graphics card doesn't go to waste.

But as lloose mentioned, I believe your best bet is the 3850.

i coulda given a picture but i cant find the camera. So it says L&C model:LC-B450E. it says the total output is 450w max. ill give a pic tommorow if i find the camera

and i dont mind if i drop to like 25-30 fps while in raids and shatt btw

edit: ill have a picture tommorow.

Wow. I hope someone around here has heard of that one. That sounds like some obscure sweatshop model number. Well, I don't know how much power your motherboard or CPU is going to pull since they are older components. I would purchase a more reliable PSU first. But, if you don't care much, go with the 3850. There's really no other option.

Just don't look to us if your PSU can't handle. Lol.

well, im not trying to say its good or something, but its ran for a year straight in a server?

edit: after hearing all this, i may be looking into building a pci-e system :(

but i would still like to attempt it with the agp hardware i have.

No need for the pic. You provided all the necessary info: DITCH THAT PSU!

L&C/Deer, is one of the worst PSU OEMs out there. So get a new PSU ASAP before you do any sort of GPU upgrades. Hell even if you don't get a new GPU, replace the PSU anyway. It's still a POS with or without upgrading your current rig. I recommend getting this PSU:
Antec Earthwatts EA380 380W PSU - $30

It may have ran for a year but that PSU was never designed for longevity or quality. Still not worth the potential death of your PC with that PSU.

k after hearing all this i think come christmas im gonna have to start saving up for a pci-e system then, that or find a real easy way to get about 180$

Just save up. Its not worth dumping $180 into your current setup.

Yes best save your money. Besides you don't need that much money (Roughly $600 to $800) to build reasonably fast and high performance gaming PC.

But at the very least replace that PSU of yours. If you want to be able to reuse the PSU in a new system, I recommend getting this PSU:
Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU - $65

lol i prefectly see what yous ay and dont have an objection, but it will probally take me like a year to save all that money since im in school and dont want a job right now to distract me from school (it would ultimatly defeat the purpose of all of this if you think about it)

im looking on the egg right now for hardware.

... since im in school and dont want a job right now to distract me from school (it would ultimatly defeat the purpose of all of this if you think about it)

Then maybe you shouldn't be playing WOW then if you don't want to be distracted?:D

nah

schools to easy

the point of buying a computer to play warcraft on would be pointless because you have to spend 6 hours a day at school and another 4-6 at work, and then get home and do school work and be to tired to play

An E-machine + WoW = Perfect Harmony

My cousin played WoW on an eMachine with 256MB of ram and whatever integrated graphics intel had going at the time with a 2.0 GHz celeron when WoW first came out. That was hardcore 5 FPS.

Then again, this kid also played Warcraft 3 on a 300 MHz Pentium system with only 64MB of ram.

I played Quake 3 on a P166. On dial up. And still got air rails.

My wow preformance.

GTX260. E8400 @ 3.8 ghz. 4gb 1100mhz 8500 ram. 1920x1200. 26 fps in nagrand.

Yeah.........patch 3.02 contained some pretty intensive stuff......that or some one messed up a code.

Used to get 200+ fps, same thing with my macbook pro......used to get 60+ fps now I get 12-18 fps.

I have to turn the Shadows to 50% on my pci-e 3850 (slight oc) But i rarely ever see it go below 30. I have yet to make it to Shatt tho. :p

Why does some genius always have to respond to every thread asking about video card / system specs in WoW with this crap about how simple the graphics are?

99% of the time it's some moron who quit playing before the Burning Crusade expansion even came out 2 years ago.

I'd like to see this guy put a 7900gt in his system, or any system, go to Shattrath, turn all the graphics settings to high, turn shadows to high, turn on max AF (16x) and at least 4xAA and look around with the fps counter on. I bet he wouldn't even pull 20fps at 1680x1050 or higher. At 1920x1080 that I play at he'd be lucky to get 15fps.

Blizzard beefed up the graphics engine in version 3.0. Many of the spell and combat effects have improved visuals, all objects... yes all... can cast shadows now, the visible draw distance has been increased tremendously, texture resolution has been increased significantly (you can zoom in on your toon and stuff doesn't get blurry), and I'm probably forgetting something else.

All I can say is, if you go to Northrend with a 6800 or 7900gt, enjoy your slideshow. And by all means, challenge me to a duel while you're running 5fps. :p

No to the 6800gt/7900gt.

I just got rid of mine a few months back with a similar system (2.6c oc'd to 3.12ghz) w/2 gb of ram and a OCZ 520w modstream. Even with all the eye candy turned off in windows and in game everything on low at 1280*1024 or even 1024*768 I would get 4-6 fps in raids and 10-15 in shat. Pre BC I got 40+ in raids and in all the cities.

Sounds exactly like what they did with the 2.0 patch right before BC dropped. I was getting AMAZING frames that came out and it went throught the floor.
Even with my amd x2 5000 2gm of ddr2 and my 8800 gts I still get 30-40 or so in shat with everything maxed out. Flying around I still get random stutters.

To the point tonight I am lowering shadows and the draw distance because of lag at times.

I didn't know Blizzard updated the graphics in WoW with the latest expansion, but then again I'm not a fan of MMOs either. The best option for AGP though is a 3850, so +1 for that.

+9000 for upgrading to a newer Core2/PCIe setup, though. :p

how does one measure their frames per second? Is there a progrom you have to DL?

Everytime I look at the WoW thing, it says 60fps.

After the patch, my poor 7800GTX OC simply can't handle the shadows cranked to max, so a 6800GT sure as hell ain't gonna do better. Try enabling full shadows and going into Blades Edge Mountains, its farking murder on your system now, let alone going into a Shattrath.

Don't waste any money dumping into an AGP setup, its a dead and done. Its time to move on for a full system upgrade

First time logging in after the patch, Shatt never loaded and I had to port outa the area which took nearly 15 minutes to load, it was insane.

What does disabling the vertical sync do? Does that allow me to use the CTRL R function?

Uh no, disabling VSYNC makes your framerate go beyond what your monitor can display past its refresh rate. It allows the max FPS on the game but it results in texture tearing in most games because the video data is being sent faster then the monitor can display it.

^ What he said. CTRL R just lets you see your realtime FPS as opposed to the static number you see when you mouseover the computer icon on the action bar.

yeah so i have been looking into the new parts right now. if i go budget, and get good brand parts, it totals up to be about 400 most likely. thats with a core 2 duo, 4gb of ram, and a geforce 9600 gso with a asus mobo, kingston memory, and a evga graphics card. the only thing i forgot to look for is the psu, but i will most likely go for an antec

- What Asus mobo?
- Are you including the after rebate prices?
- Which Kingston 4GB RAM?
- Which C2D CPU?

lol when i look i look for ratings, and i meant 2x 2bg sticks (and i may just go for only 1 and buy a new one in the future)

asus mobo
cpu
kingston 2gb ram

and i added it all up without the rebates, because by the time i actually have the money the rebates will most likely be over.

People always say oooooo WoW runs on any old piece of shit, but it is not true at all.

Whilst raiding it hits your rig quite hard, i used to run WoW with 2 gigs of ram, 3800 X2 @ 2.4 ghz and a 7900 Gt, whislt raiding i wouldnt have everything on Max and in battles and on bosses you would get 23 FPS, which is fine but.

Upgraded to a 8800 GT, e7200 @ 3ghz and the difference was BIG, end of the day WoW requires a Fast processor above all else
