I have 3 Reference Gigabytes cards in Tri-Fire running at 1100/1500, i can probably go higher. All 3 are st stock voltages, Id just grab reference cards and forget all this overpriced lightly overclocked cards hehe.
 
This card is priced $954.80 here at my local store, Australian prices. A standard 7970 costs like $699, talk about expensive.
 
I just picked one up from Newegg.

I'm selling off my two 6970's to pay for it.

I read somewhere that the voltage may be locked in the bios, and you need to flash it with a unlocked bios in order to tweak the voltage while overclocking. Is this accurate?

Well, to be clear, I believe this and all other "non-reference" boards out there right now all use the reference board design, just with a custom cooler.

We will likely have to wait a while for boards with non-reference PCB's.

I really dont understand the hoopla over these non standard coolers. They exhaust heat into your case, which in the long run means it will run *hotter* than the reference design. Especially when put into a crossfire configuration. These are bad designs priced higher than good designs.

Test data seems to suggest otherwise.

Provided you have good airflow in your case so that the hot air is exhausted they cool better.

If the airflow in your case is poor, then yes, the results with a cooler like this won't help.
 
That, and you are probably also getting binned GPU's that are able to hit higher clocks at lower voltages.
 
Very tempted but don't think one will be good enough for 2560x1600.

Depends on what you run.

If you are able to overclock it well, you should be able to get pretty close to the performance of a dual 6970 setup without having to deal with the nuisance of AMD's poor crossfire drivers.

I'm getting one to replace my two 6970's. If I find I need more power I'll pick up another later.

My guess is it won't be enough to run Metro 2033 at 60+ fps with everything maxxed, but most other things should run well at 2560x1600.

This is not true, at all. I've used the MSI lightning gtx 580s and refernece 580s, the lightnings cool far, far better and overclock better. It is true that they vent heat into your case, but that means it will increase your CPU temp potentially. The card should remain cool - in fact, the MSI lightning that I used never got above 65C even when heavily oc'ed.

But I'm still holding out for the rumored 1300+ factory OC cards.

idk man, if hes saying that monster dcii card might go up to 1200 then 1300 might be about as much as youre gonna get OCing one of these under water. i really doubt youll see a factory OC that high. i think 1100 or 1150 might be about all you get. :/

I know... They are just rumored after all. In any case, I'm winning by waiting. Xfire drivers will be much more mature by the time I get my 7970s, and I will be able to see the comparisons between all cards to find ones that run the coolest. I'm not the type to spend time and money upgrading a video card's cooling solution. May the coolest card win.

Same, I'm seeing what they come out with driver-wise and cooling-wise for the 7970's, and what Kepler brings, myself. I've swapped GPU coolers in the past, but prefer to just grab one pre-attached that's nice nowadays.

In addition to running cooler provided your case is well ventilated; they also run significantly quieter under load because they can use more/bigger fans than the stock blowers do.
 
Can't seem to finish this workstation until C2s are abundant and DCUIIs out.

I just read on a Newegg review that this heatsink is GLUED on to the board?

Can anyone with personal experience with this board comment?

I picked one og these up with the intent of removing the heatsink, and doing a Antec Kuhler/Corsair Hxx mod, but want to be able to put the heatsink back on it when it comes time to sell.

Can anyone comment on if it comes off/goes back on easily? If not I may just decline receipt of the package, and get a different board.
 
The reference cooler thing is great when all you use is a test bench anyway. No case, no exhaust issue lol.

Pass for now and looks like a while longer sigh. I can't wait to upgrade to something worthwhile. Not yet for me.
 
Has anyone else received one of these gigabyte boards yet?

I just got mine, and it turns out it doesn't come with any adapters.

Did yours come with adapters? Is it just mine or is it this board in general?

For my setup I need one displayport (center monitor) and two DVI ports (side monitors)

So I need one mini DP to DP adapter and one hdmi to dvi adapter, neither of which came with the board (usually you get at least one or two adapters). This is verudisappointing for a high priced board like this.

Bow I have to choose between ordering a fair priced adapter online and not using my new board for several days while I wait for them to arrive, or take it up the ass locally and buy a passive adapter for $20... :rolleyes:
