The folks at NVIDIA have launched a closed beta of the new GeForce Experience app. For those of you that might not be comfortable messing around with your video card settings, the app auto-optimizes your settings depending on your system specs and the game you are playing. The app also auto-downloads drivers as well. More advanced users will also be delighted to know that there will be enthusiast features added soon as well. Here's a video that explains the GeForce Experience app.

Tested it out last night. Doesn't recognize any games I have installed, which a bunch are on their supported list. Pretty broken right off the bat for a beta.

Isn't this the point of a beta? (To iron out the bugs found by the testers)
 
Suprised it was not mentioned in the video or the comments yet so I'll pose it.

Does this work with Steam, Origin, etc.?

I have a feeling it can only do this with games installed the old fashioned way like from optical media. If that is the case, I see no point in this software at all. Would have been great 4+ years ago, but now?

If you actually watch the video that question is blatantly answered by the directory it shows where the game was installed...
 
So does this actually optimize for frame rates making it a playable game? Or does it just turn all settings to max?
 
Installed, recognized TF2 and that was it (I have WAY more of the games on that list installed). Will be interesting to see what it does when it works properly.

You will need to point it to the Drive / Directory that the games are installed in if those are not in the "normal" Folder or Drive.

Yes, it makes suitable eyecandy/resolution/framerate tradeoffs.
 
We had a very long discussion with NVIDIA about what the application needs to do for enthusiasts, so there is a fairly long list of changes that will likely be coming. Saved "GFE" files that can be shared, toggling and setting game specific sliders and knobs in the GFE application, and some other tweaks.

Yeah, that was my thought as well.

A video showing it crank everything up to the max doesn't impress me as that's the easiest thing of all.

Also, don't most games these days have the same "optimize" feature?
 
I didn't see or hear any mention of vsync. Hopefully tuning that off isn't the default solution for optimizing anything (unless that's what you want).
 
This sounds like a fantastic application to recommend to our not so tech savy friends people. Please realize what its intended applications and target audience are.

Definitely. I still have plenty of console friends that want to get into PC gaming, but find the optimization process intimidating. Things like this might open PC gaming up to a wider audience if they work.

On quick inspection this seems to just set in game graphics options to whatever nvidia play testers think is best for your setup...nice if you can stand to give up the tweaking that us enthusiasts inevitable "waste" lots of time on at the beginning of a new game...but I think I can tweak my setup better than someone that just knows my specs. I ended up going back to my original settings in Borderlands 2.

Looking forward to enthusiast stuff though. Will re-visit all this later.

As Kyle mentioned, a saved, shareable GFE file would be excellent. Read a [H]ard review, click link to download their recommended GFE settings and off you go.
 
Sounds like the opposite-end-of-the-spectrum of the Steam "BigPicture"
Steam wants to somehow consolize PC gaming.....ie using the TV......and nvidia wants to set the controls for you .........just like on the XBox.
 
Are they trying just to get me to buy a new video card? It just highlights the settings my card does not support and the "optimized" settings are the same or worse then what I have already set. If a game is running smooth as butter now why should I turn some of my settings down? Their settings are conservative not optimized. This is not for the [H]ard it's for the lazy.
 
Doesn't support SLI yet. It was recommending I turn down a lot of settings. :p
 
Nice application. Should allow tech savvy people to sleep more before their family calls them to fix their settings.
 
I like it. Simple to operate and it works well with my GTX680 and latest beta drivers.

this is good for people like me... im very finicky about changing graphic settings and what i end up doing is changing the settings constantly debating whether or not i have achieved the best iq that delivers adequate fps

at least with this i can rest assured that the optimized default have been tested by nvidia themselves while also delivering adequate framerate
 
Would love to see this tech pushed further to optimize all gaming to certain average framerate, level by level graphic adjustment, global min/max fps settings would be nice as well.
 
Im actually ok with this. Over the past while I have been so confused when setting up my games. aa haa, fzaa, smaa, ghataa and a hundred other setting that I have no idea what I should be using anymore
 
These things are great for my brother who doesn't know trilinear filtering from a T&L engine. But for enthusiasts who know and can choose accordingly?
 
I'm diggin' the YouTube comments, "This will be great for console retard's that can't download drivers and change graphics setting in games." Followed by, "FUCK THIS SHIT GIVE US GTX 780 680'S WAS CRAP BDW." Some hilarious comments going down...
 
So just installed it and apparently it doesn't recognize my external monitors max resolution anymore. Back to my previous driver...
 
I think this is a small step in the right direction. I haven't used it so forgive me if I mention a feature that is already covered, I think they should add;

Frame rate target options so you can choose the frame rate target you want to stay above and below and it can then optimize to the best eye candy within that range

In addition to that it should scan all places for games and actively look for Steam, Origin, and other game distribution folder paths.

finally it should allow you to detect everything properly, e.g. SLI, sli with dedicated physX, NV surround, NV surround 3d etc..

If they iron out those few wrinkles this would be a great app for just about all geforce gamers.
 
This is a grand idea and I'm happy to take it for a spin and smoke the tires a little.
 
Looks like a great app from Nvidia. With some of the improvement Kyle speaks of, it might be pretty decent as a launcher. Its starting to be too many of those digital distribution UI's (Steam, GFW, Origin, Uplay etc), so if this can unify them a bit, it would be a great app for Geforce users. :)

I think its the first launcher where you can change game settings across different games. :)

A great launcher for ATI cards is Radeonpro, where you can change a lot of hardware settings to optimize the game. Use the Radeonpro preview:
