Galaxy Note 5

Negative, ghost rider. Note 3 was sold in 16GB too. Only Note 4:

Galaxy S5 was sold in 16GB as wel:

32GB onboard minimum only really started this winter.

Notice I said "in the US." ;)

Note 3 came standard with 32GBs in the US on all carriers. Go on Swappa and try to find a 16GB Note 3 on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mo.

The One M7 and G2 that came out in 2012 to compete with the GS4 had 32GBs minimum (again - in the US at least) too. The following year, the One M8, Z2, and G3 had 32GBs minimum as well and even supported SD card slots. Pretty much everything late last year and this year had had it, but Samsung is seemingly the only big player that cut SD card support, while HTC, Sony, LG, and even Moto are putting them in their flagships this year.

Well, phone manufacturers are fucking sucking us dry and fucking us with this storage bullshit anyway. The damn storage cannot possibly be very expensive at this point. Maybe 5 years ago it was expensive, but come on. SSDs, microSD cards, etc are cheap as fuck. I know it isn't the same, but there has to have been serious advances in the memory used in these phones. And yet we are getting gouged for it. And people keep buying this shit. The cell carriers have gone from subsidy to 0% financing to hide the true cost and keep people buying. If people had to actually pay $800 for a 32gb phone, I think it'd be a different story.

Jesus Christ just say that out loud. $800 for a 32gb phone. And people are buying it.

Yea, that's pretty dumb. Seems it should not fit in backwards at all. Something that could easily be avoided as he showed. I wonder if a full reset fixes it.

That sucks but I've had a. Note 2,3, and 4 and have never even tried to insert the S pen backwards, LOL.

I can see a kid doing this though. It's too bad they didn't somehow key the s pen so it won't just slide in backwards.

I just sent that video to my friend who got a Note5 and he immediately did it and broke his phone :D. I fucking lol'd so hard at him..

What makes it even more funny is that he had to RMA his Note 4 like twice and now he's gonna have to do this new one within a week of owning it. *facepalm*

That sucks.

I had to send my Note 2 in because it wast charging the battery 100% Batteries would charge to 100% in the spare battery charger.

I had to get my Note 3 serviced because the proximaty sensors stopped working (display wouldn't turn off when you put it up to your face. )

My Note 4 has been flawless though.

My favorite local computer store is a Samsung authorized service centre though, so they can do the warranty service in house, just a couple days wait for parts. So nice.

I could too. I've also had all the notes and just got my 5. Reasonably sure kids will not be touching it.

Manufacturers seriously need to make things more retard proof. It's so easy to put coolant in the engine and oil in the fuel tank. Defective designs...

I agree. All knifes should be made of rubber. Design flaws. First world problems.

Knives wouldn't complete their function if made of rubber, if this Note was like literally all the Notes before you wouldn't have this issue and it wouldn't change the function of the device.

Note 2,3 and 4 all had crazy good battery life. If my experience with the S6 is any indication, that won't be the case with the 5 :(

I have to agree with you. This is one of the dumber things I've seen in a while. People are getting mad because they want a guarantee that if they use a product INCORRECTLY, that it won't break? Is that the argument? Yeah, try going through life buying products and trying to get that gaurantee on any type of machinery or high end technology.

Just because you physically couldn't not insert the pen back into the phone with the previous notes does not mean the Note 5 has a design flaw. It just means the previous Notes were more retard proof. I had a Note 2 for a couple years and in all that time I never not even once attempted to insert the pen backwards. "OH BUT THE CHILDREN!!!!!!" You know, if you're dumb enough to let a small child handle your $900 phone then you probably deserve to have it broken.

Multiple reviews have already stated otherwise. They almost all have praised the lasting battery life.

I don't like the idea of a non-removable battery. Maybe two or three times over the course of its lifetime, my Note 3 refused to turn on. I popped the battery out, put it back in, and all was well again. I'm just imaging this happening with Note 5 and I have to RMA all because I can't remove the battery and put it back in. I'll still get it, but I'll most likely get a cheap refurb Note 3 as a backup.

I never thought about that. I had the same issue occasionally, and I just popped out the battery. I guess they expect us to just let it die on the note 5? Interesting

**google-fu suggests that devices that have non removable batteries are hard coded to reset after the power button is held for a certain amount of time. Apparently many devices with removable batteries lack this function, thus have the need to have the battery removed. **

Shoving a stylus in backwards is pretty common, just like people shove batteries backwards into devices all the time. Companies need to design products for average people, they shouldn't care if those people are PhDs or brain dead retards as long as they buy the phones and are happy with them.

I let my kid handle stuff that cost well more than $900 all the time...

Not comparable at all. Batteries have two identically shaped ends. It's not difficult to place a battery incorrectly. There is nothing common about putting in a stylus backwards. Pointy side goes in. To do so, it is almost imperative that A.) you're either looking at the device to see where you're putting the pen or B.) through tactile touch, you're guiding the end into the hole. In either scenario, it's extremely likely that you're not going to attempt to place the wrong end first unless you're doing it willfully.

I used a note for 2 years. If it was common I would have done it at least once. Your argument is specious.

Shoving a stylus in backwards is pretty common,

Pretty common? So I used Palm Pilots for 4+ years before phablets came to the market. NEver once did I put in backwards.

I've owned every note since the Note 2, and not once, as in not a single time, did I ever put, or even attempt to put the stylus in backwards.

Be careful of citing anecdotes -- they're not evidence by themselves.

It's true that people aren't that likely to shove the pen in backwards, but these sorts of things do happen. The issue is really just that this was a preventable error. You can't stop people from dropping their phones, but you can make sure that your pen detection still works when people don't put the peripheral in the right way.

I don't consider this a major problem for the Note 5 by any means... it's just a head-scratcher.

While I do think this is being blown way out of proportion, I do see it as more than a head-scratcher. It's a very bad design that Samsung never should have allowed. I mean the other Note devices don't have this issue. Why did they do it this way this time?

They had to have known what would happen if the stylus was inserted incorrectly (if not then they need to fire their entire QA staff). Samsung decided to allow the design to go to production. That was horribly wrong of them. Their official stance of "RTFM" is completely unacceptable as well.

My bet is they'll have to foot the bill to replace quite a few of these devices and that means Note 6 won't have this design flaw. ;)

I've worked support for tech companies and ISPs... If people can shove something in backwards, or into the wrong port, they will. Is everyone retard? No. Are a lot of people retarded when it comes to mass market products like cell phones? Hell yes.

Man... My pre-order is still "in process"... What a joke. I was number 18 in their queue before it went to processing on Monday. Makes me wonder how many units these guys actually received from Samsung...

Way worse experience than. Past note launches for me. I'm feeling like they rushed to market with just enough devices to say ,"first" in advance of the iPhone launch. I really hope I get my unit this week. I bought a Tylt VU QI charger for my bedside in anticipation and everything.

They did this with the note 3 launch too, took me two weeks to get an ATT version.

Bunch of lemmings.

All they have to do is slide a jimmy down the side in the gap to release. Then, for Samsung to make the pen retard proof bevel the clicky end.

Of course it being Exynos it'll only be TouchWiz ROMs. Good luck finding a good AOSP build. ;)

Pretty funny watching Leo bust his Note 5...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQB0TFcdFIs

Well if you buy a Samsung phone, doubt you're looking to run stock Android, as that's not the point. Today there a lot of stock Android phones, the Nexus 6, the upcoming LG Nexus 5.2", the 5.7" Nexus, the OnePlus One and Two runs sort of stock OS's, all Moto devices are very stockish.

Gone are the days of rooting and flashing CM ROM on the Galaxy S3.

I myself am a big Pure Nexus guy, but a good Touchwizz ROM is nice too. A great developer can really turn Touchwiz around to something much better than Scamsuck ever would, plus with the new Theme engine, stock material design theme + a great TW ROM, the phone can turn into a pretty sweet device.

Thanks for sharing that video. I wouldn't consider Leo to be a complete retard. He perfectly demonstrated how easy it is to make this mistake. I laughed my ass off when I saw him slowly sliding the stylus in and realizing that it was stuck. LOL.

Erica Griffin has a pretty good video breakdown of the Galaxy Note 5's (really, TouchWiz's) poor memory management:

Seriously, a phone with 4GB of RAM should not be closing apps more aggressively than one with 3GB. There's just no good excuse for it.

But there is a good reason, TouchWiz's stylus functionalities requires more RAM then ever before... Who cares about third party apps...

You sure you want to get the T mobile version Zorachus? Erica is getting over 6 hours SOT with her unlocked international version and barely 3 with the Tmobile version.

6h Screen On time with the International version ? That's pretty wicked.

But with root, and the recent debloat guide, people say they are also getting great battery life now. Also need to disable Volte on T-Mobile, which seems to be a big drainer.

Flossy Carter just dropped his hour long "Real Review" for those interested in a more detailed revuew by some who has used the phones for a week and has used probably every Android phone under the sun.
