I'm still hoping for more phablet market competition...I have a feeling this device will be the most locked down yet.

Samsung should have put in a larger battery, not just 3250mAh :rolleyes: This beast needs at least a 3,500mAh.

And locked down ? LOL you betcha :mad: ATT Note 4 might get root after the New Year, and custom Recovery for ROM's :p LOL ain't gonna happen.

Sadly the Note 2 was the last best Samsung phone IMO. Back then my ATT carrier Note 2 had Development ready and going the very first week of release, and the phone was easy to root right out of the box then, and custom Recovery was available day one at launch. And battery life on the Note 2 with a good tweak ROM was off the charts awesome, to this day my best battery life phone ever. I was getting 8h On Screen time easily, and 48hrs total life no problem on my Note 2.

Oh well, here's hoping Google's first stock Nexus phablet device the 5.9" Motorola Nexus X is all that.
 
This is a flop product without the water resistance of the gs5, every time my friend jokingly dips his gs5 in his water at lunch it strikes me as the coolest feature by far.

The Note is only used by business professionals who never have any need of water resistance. I trust greatly in the wisdom of the Samsung PR guy who came up with that one.
 
I guess if you live in a rainy area or work on/near water then IP67 can be useful otherwise my last eight phones hasn't had any water issue so it's low in priority of features compared to things like better camera, 4K output, VP9 hardware acceleration, multi-stream 802.11ac, etc.
 
While IP67 would be cool, it's hardly a feature that will "flop" a product.

Yes it will still be very good. But there will be people here who will attempt to turn it into being a shitty product much like people flipped about the S5 being .1% bigger despite having some serious upgrades.
 
Yea not getting the Note 4. Xperia Z3 is now on the top of my list to replace my Note 3 as my personal device. Really need that water resistance. I hope maybe the new iPhone has some sort of water resistance as well so I can at least consider that.
 
I'm more excited about the blonde chick on stage than the Note 4.
 
#1 question should be, locked bootloader or not Samscum ? AT&T's Note 3 was a disaster for XDA Development. Crickets chirping, and tumble weeds blowing in the development threads on the Note 3 last year. Took till after the New Year just to get basic Root on the AT&T Note 3 :rolleyes:

Note 4 will be locked down even more F. that. :mad:

Why can't Samesung be open like HTC, and allow the bootloader to be officially unlocked free of charge, and direct from the manufacturers website.

That is why I own an AT&T HTC One M8, which I then happily and easily converted to GPE.
 
Was pretty excited initially but I don't think there are enough new features to make me move from my S4.

Any flagship from late 2012 to 2013 will now last a long time I guess. That, and it makes my 700$ purchase of the S4 easier to live with.

AFAIK your issues are strictly thanks to your carrier asking for those measures.

Yea, if you don't want to go around a locked device then go to a carrier like TMO.

TMO will soon ask for locked devices, once they get enough subscribers they will also ask for devices to be locked.
 
Think I am gonna stick with my Note 3. First time I have skipped a generation of Notes.
Nothing that pops out at me & has me drooling. QuadHD is nice, but really, is it $700 nice?
 
I have a note 3, probably going to get this. I have one line that can upgrade. I like the note 3 so much I want to push all the other phones out and replace them with notes.

This phone looks solid the only thing I am undecided on is the lack of water proof specs. On one hand I want it. But on the other hand it made the S5 have a really low reparability which reduces a phones long term usefulness and resale. Want to see a phone that is garbage look at the evo 4g lte. its practically worthless on the second hand market because of its crap.

Finger print reader is a huge bonus for me since I process credit cards on my phone. I hope that batteries are the same format so this thing will hit the ground with extended batteries. Also apparently OIS is now coming to the note which is also a big bonus IMO. qHD screen great, nothing to complain about. ultra low power mode is also a fine upgrade.

Ultimately we need to wait for screen reviews but so far this may be my first ever direct upgrade in a long time. I went from the touch pro to the touch pro 2. After that I skipped at least 1 sometimes 2 generations between phones. But this looks good on a lot of levels. 32 GB standard memory is a great thing to IMO when Samsung does this with expandable memory it is going to put the hurt on everyone else as they will have no excuse but to follow.
 
Great Screen, but nothing else to see that makes me want this over a solid note 3. The processor in this thing is basically going to be obsolete in spring when they release the Galaxy S6. Android L seems to be a revolutionary change which means better to get on the train after its release rather than before.

Guess the IP ratings didnt get translated from the S series, which is disappointing to say the least but for most more of a gimmick, as most slap on a case that may be waterproof or get insurance nowdays.

If you need to use an upgrade then by I would skip the Note 3 and go for the 4. If your already on the 3, I dont see any reason to upgrade.

Their devices are locked. The difference is that the process of getting unlocked is easier with them as the phones aren't tied to a contract but instead a 0% 2 year loan that you can pay off any time.

I'm not talking about carrier lock.

Also ATT has the same exact thing with NEXT. They were nice enough to offer me to go onto the NEXT program and get out of my 2 year agreement, I can decide to leave ATT right now with nothing owed and that's with a subsidized Note 3 back in October. But it will be hard to beat a 2 line with 10gb and the coverage ATT offers for $120.
 
Not much discussion but there is also the upgraded note edge. While it seems like people are calling it a gimmick I am actually slightly interested. Wonder if the back will be compatible with extended batteries and covers. Sprint will probably charge $450 for it on contract lol.

What impressed me was that Samsung made an display with more pixels for this. Does that make the note 4 edge the highest resolution phone out?

Its not that much different in size and of course its faster. It actually has worthy upgrades in build quality and the display
 
I see it as a tangible, worthy upgrade -- I wouldn't toss out a Note 3 to get the 4, but it would definitely be on the short list for large smartphones.

It looks cool but I agree, real upgrades come next year with be SOCs.

Would consider it, but TMo doesn't even have 3G at my house...no cable either. 6mbps DSL is my best option, but slower and more expensive than Verizon.

We'll see how that throttle bs goes. No way towers near my house will be under heavy usage, which is when you're supposed to be throttled. Sounds like a load of crap, but maybe they'll adhere to it, which should mean throttling will have little impact on me.

Good point though, had already forgot about it. May be best to not renew my contract by ordering this phone immediately. If throttling rapes me, I'll cancel both lines. Get the Note4 with my employer's Verizon account instead of getting a reimbursement for my personal line, and put the wife on a cheap plan with someone else.

The 805 is a decent bump to the Adreno 420 GPU from the 330 in the 800/801. There's also the die shrink from 28nm to 20nm.

I was hugely disappointed when the S5 was announced, but once I held it in hand, I was very impressed because of the huge leap in screen quality over the previous S4.

If they keep the same brightness of the S5 coupled with the increased screen resolution, I have a feeling the Note 4 is going to be jaw-droppingly gorgeous to hold in person.

Plus the design is very nice. It's no longer the huge compromise in build quality that previous Galaxy phones have always been.

I own a G3 which is a great phone, but I'm seriously considering giving this phone to my Dad and using his upgrade to get the Note 4. I can't wait to see it in person.
 
If the Note 4 doesn't take 3+ months to be rooted on Verizon/AT&T like the GS5 did, then I may consider trading my M8 for it. I'll definitely miss these nice and loud front facing speakers, but I miss SAMOLED from my Note 2 as well. I hate having these trade-offs, lol. But root is a requirement at least for Xposed installer. Custom ROMs/kernels don't really interest me anymore so I don't care much about an unlocked bootloader.

The gpu is a decent bump in raw speed but we are still on the same ARMv8 set. We won't get an updated chipset till next year sometime, most likely spring+.

Also the 801 & 800 is the same SoC, just the 801 is on the newer process.
 
Doesnt really matter as the push towards 64 bit has arrived. HTC desire, mid range sucessor was showcased today with a low end 64bit. Again Note 4 is great if your really hate the faux metal frame on the note 3 and just can live without the QHD screen but, in 6 months, not the typical year the next generation is coming out.

64bit is still new in the mobile world so I wouldn't get that excited over it right away
 
Yea....its relatively new, but already a year old on the iOS side of things (which alot of people take a dump on for being slow to adopting new things). Plus if HTC thinks its good enough for the mid end, why not for a Galaxy 4 high end next gen device?

S6 and Note 5. That is why.

Planned obsolescence. Same real reason Note 4 didn't get water resistance.
