Galaxy Note 2, whose getting one?

SOB, I am royally fucked either way. I dropped my Note 1 in the bathtub last month and the Asurion deductable is still $200 which I just won't pay that much for an older model phone now. I could add another line which I will never use and get a Note 2 for discount but pay a complete waste a month on a second line.

Or I could cancel it but pay a full $350 for the second line and hope AT&T doesn't raise an eyebrow seeing me trying to move the Note 2 onto the old number. Or I could cancel my current contact and pay the $250 remaining termination fee and start a new one but the AT&T rep said its possible they will flag my social security # for possible fraudulence and possibly make me reactive and pay for my old contract anyway despite getting a new one.

Or pay out the ass for a new Note 2 for $650 pound me in the ass dollars. My Note 1 mostly works but the USB port no longer works, the radios cut in and out for wifi and reception, the software glitches and locks up randomly and battery life seems to have decreased since its drive. I am so fucking mad at myself...

The Asurion deductible has always been $90 for smartphones for me on Verizon, though I wouldn't think it would matter what carrier you're on. Are you sure that's right?

Yep, its $200 with ATT still

Their Tier level deductibles are $50 $125 and $200 for phones on ATT

Holy... I didnt realize. I usually dont buy warranties since I never drop my phone, spill etc. I also don't keep my phones for that long(wasted $100 on verizon for warranty for the last 2 years that I never used). But if I did and wanted warranty would MUCH rather pick up square trade warranty. ADH is included in price I believe, and its significantly cheaper than the deductible alone plus its like $8 a month on AT&T right?

If the deductible is $200 you dont pay for that insurance you can usually find the phones for close to $200 pretty quickly on ebay. Even if you keep the insurance you get rid of it as soon as the price of phones on ebay starts coming down.

Geeze... Sprint has like a $45 deductable plus something like $10/month (though you *can* add it on when the phone breaks and just leave it there a few months - no need to keep it constantly --- I used it twice, once when a genuine Samsung update bricked my phone, and once when my EVO's 3G radio died... (1xRTT and 4G worked fine))

This is exactly what I do. I'll get insurance (through Asurion) when I first get a phone and keep it for 8 months or so until I can get the same phone for around $200 used somewhere. I think I paid $8/month for Asurion on Verizon for my Gnex and the wifes Rezound and they definitely have a $90 deductible because I had to pay that for my wife's Rezound soon after she got her phone when she broke the USB port on it by forcing a cable in it the wrong way.

No way I would pay for any insurance with a $200 deducible unless it was only like $2/month or less. I just looked at Sqare Trade and it doesn't look like their deductible and/or rates are much better than Asurion, unless I'm missing something. It says their deductible is $99 on all plans; which include their $7/month plan or pay a one time fee of $125 for 2 years. They sent me a coupon code this morning though for 30% off today only or 20% off for the rest of the year. I would post it if it wasn't a unique code just for me (I'm thinking of using it when I get my Note 2, I'll have to compare it some more).

I think that it was mentioned to me here that the Atrix HD was getting Jelly Bean in Jan(I'm going to be getting the Galaxy Note 2 for Christmas). Well, just got the update and downloading now. I know there are very little Motorola guys here and more Samsung but just letting peeps know. ENjoy your update nerds.

I see a Note for $275 and $330 near me on CL and $350 on Swappa. One just sold for $290.

Still a bit much for a 1 year old phone, but it is a special type of phone, so I can see how it retains value a bit better than a normal smart phone. It's definitely better for you to use Square Trade over Asurion on AT&T if they have a $200 deductible on this phone.

I don't trust craigslist for selling even a moldy cheeto, let alone buy a used smartphone. I can't use square trade case i've had my Note 1 for several months

Which is why I linked to Swappa. I meant use Square Trade for future phones ;).

Depends on your locale. I've gotten many a good deal on CL. And only had one person try to scam me, and badly at that, once.

I've bought, sold and traded so many phones on craigslist in the past year. It really depends on your location, just use your good judgement when it comes to stuff. If the price is too good to be true it is probably stolen or they are waiting till you leave to claim the phone was stolen and get the insurance from it.

My contract ends in May 2013 and I'll probably decide between the Note 2 and the SGS4.

Most likely the SGS4 but still giving the Note 2 a thought.

Saying this phone is amazing would be an understatement.

Note 2 with the hyperion extended battery.

Nexus 4 owners on XDA are milking 5 hours at most with their Nexus 4, and that is with a custom kernel. This is all at stock. No custom kernel, stock rom.

Got my Note 2 on Verizon last night :D. Haven't set it up really yet because I want to unlock the bootloader and fix all the crappy Verizon Mods (no WiFi Toggle, persistent WiFi notification, no TW Calendar Widget, etc.).

That's with WiFi on all the time?

Now that's what I call boss battery life.

I got mine yesterday, charged it up and took it off the charger around 8am. It's now 7pm and I'm at 92% --- that's with listening to music for around 20 minutes and watching 2 youtube videos (No calls today)

So nearly 12 hours and you're still at 92%? That's crazy.

Looks like the SGN2 has superb standby time.

I'm interested in the call and video battery life.

I should note that I have no email accounts or syncs setup right now, so that will lower battery life (Also Wifi/BT were on the whole time - BT is 4.0 so it uses almost no power)

You mean that will increase battery life.

WiFi was on the whole time? Wow and after 12 hours you still had 92% battery power left?

Amazing.

I know I was shocked as well, though as I said, it was very light useage today.

Yes, polling email and syncing data will slowly eat away your battery (and prior to 4.0, Bluetooth ate a significant amount of battery too)

I am amazed how lowering screen brightness makes such a difference. Try it if you haven't.

One thing I've noticed with Android in particular though is the battery does not seem to decrease at a linear rate, even if the tasks I am using don't change. Obviously there is going to be some variability but I notice sometimes it will drop 5 or 10 % in a short period of time and other times it won't drop but a few percent in a couple of hours... probably just in my head...

Wifi polling and syncing on Note2 does not suck battery life anywhere near as badly as older phones like say OG Evo4G. I don't even bother turning off any data syncing (set to every hour) and polling or turning off Wifi and GPS and I can start and end a day above 85% if I kept usage to a minimum. The Wifi radio is FAR more power efficient than the 3g radio actually.

I do kill network-based locating and Google+ though. Bother issue tons of partial wakelocks.

Well increasing brightness means increasing power to power the individual pixels so yes, brightness makes a significant difference to battery life.

For me, battery decreases at a fairly constant rate. I think the lower the percentage of battery remaining, the faster it goes because every percent is valuable.

Samsung just released the Verizon SGN2 Developer Edition:

Yeah, saw that story a few days ago. Don't see much point of it now that the bootloader has been unlocked for a couple weeks now. I unlocked my Verizon Note 2 the day after I got it with no issues and have TWRP on it right now. Though development isn't great for it yet, I only wanted to debloat and restore all of the missing functionality Verizon stripped from it over the international Note 2 (missing WiFi toggle, TW calendar widget, blocking mode, etc.).

Sbrissen has been working on getting Cyanogenmod going on Note2 for a few weeks now. Already had an early alpha release.

Totally digging this thing. I went against better judgement and did a contract on att. Ive been using an atrix 4g on straight talk. This phone is so smooth. Just ordered the case with kickstand mentioned earlier in the thread and a screen cover.
