wow, very impressive post... Im totaly going to look into this...Hurin said:Check out this post for more info. I asked a pretty similar question in the SLI thread.
Also, you could always power one 8800GTX with your standard PSU, and then get one of these for only $50 to power the other. Then you've got four PCI-E connectors without any adapters.. I assume that the Thermaltake dedicated video card PSU can handle a single 8800GTX since it can power Quad-SLI all on its own. Could be wrong though.

Make no mistake, SLI is for the high end user only, if you aren't prepared to spend money on the upgrade then just stay away. I'm not sure what people expect here, more video processing power but less power requirement?![]()

And I liked how somebody said that it would be adding $50 to the power bill. A mini-fridge on constant power pulls more power per-day than the 8k series will at peak power, and a mini-fridge costs like $25 a month. So please, cut the bullshit. Thanks.
Sweet! Thanks for the heads up, finally a good gaming convention where I live.Jasonx82 said:OOOoo Its Official Nvidia will launch the G80 next month for sure @ the GeforceLAN Got it in my email!![]()

it's call exaggeration, try looking it up sometime.
dR.Jester said:I think one of the biggest reasons why people are "freaking out" is because a single card will require (2) 6-PIN PCI-E power connectors. If they don't have an SLI PSU, they have to purchase one now.
Second problem, if you want to run SLI, not only will it cost an assload and require 1.21GIGAWATTS of power, those that do intend to go SLi with the 8800GTX will have to purchase an SLI 2.0 PSU.
Yeah the card may suck more juice, really not all that great but if you just purchased an SLI certified PSU, you just got f'ed by NVIDIA because the 8800GTX now requires two power connectors.
I guess they found an ironclad way to keep attendance down by holding it on Tuesday-Wednesday and then requiring 18+ years old. The only people able to go will be the unemployed and college students with poor grades (the ones who are willing to blow off two days of classes). Guess they've never heard of holding events on a Saturday.Jasonx82 said:OOOoo Its Official Nvidia will launch the G80 next month for sure @ the GeforceLAN Got it in my email!![]()

Yeah, but if you've got a full class load then you've got classes on MWF and also on TTh, hence blowing off 2 days of classes. Not saying I wouldn't have done that if I were still in college, mind you, but then I never claimed to have been a great student either.strikeout said:wrong, good schools have classes with alternating days ie, mwf or tth, so your really only missing one. Second, theres a thing called days off requests. Past geforce lans have only been 1 day events with open bar and free food throughout. I dunno if ill get the days off approved but its worth it to pay and signup so i can sit with my clans/friends.

And if your boss would seriously give you 2 days off to go to a LAN party, then you need to tell me where to send my resume![]()

Well, the newly announced 800W and 1000W power supplies from BFG have four PCI-E power connectors. Problem solved.Warrior said:wow, very impressive post... Im totaly going to look into this...
no, not really. Cause i think Thermaltake sucks....
but, now there is something eles to ponder... Where is antec and, (dare i say) PC Power and Cooling with there "video card PSU" (PSU3D!!) But, nicely thought out post you did...

Though at $350 or $250, I think I'd just go with PC Power & Cooling (assuming they add connectors soon!).
Edit: Woops, looks like only the 1KW version will have the four connectors.
Yeah, there is a PC Power & Cooling Quad SLI model that now comes with 4 PCI-E connectors.jacuzz1 said:My 1 k quad came with 4 as standard equipment
